Re: [Mikrotik] Ethernet port ordering
I have never had issues with x86 but I have had far less experience then routerboards. On 11/8/08, Kevin Neal <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Unfortunately that's not our experience with x86. Re: [Mikrotik] Ethernet port ordering
Quoting Josh Luthman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: With x86 it should go in order of PCI slots with onboard being first, I believe. The RB532 isn't x86. It's mips. Although I still would think it would be in order. How the daughterboard wraps around the other ports is very odd - maybe the PCI (or equivilent) addresses wrap around? I thought so too. I could understand the daughterboard ports showing up either behind the 532 ports or in front of them, but to have the main board's ports stuck in between the daughterboard ports seems really weird. Even more strange is the fact that if I look in the Routerboot setup, it shows all nine ports with the main board's ports first, (as 1,2,3) and the duagterboard ports last (as 4,5,6,7,8,9). Just as you would expect. Craig
Re: [Mikrotik] Ethernet port ordering
Unfortunately that's not our experience with x86. We've had it put ether1 on a random port and then sequentially go through the rest, it might jump up or down the PCI slots, even the onboard changes. It does look that it keeps the settings after reboots and /system resets, but if do another netinstall on it it will change. The most recent box had 4 4 port ethernet cards. Here's the order it was in.. 7 < onboard 11, 10, 9, 8 < first PCI card 15, 14, 13, 12 < second PCI card 2, 1, 17, 16 < third PCI card 6, 5, 4, 3 < fourth PCI card. -Kevin -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Josh Luthman Sent: Saturday, November 08, 2008 7:41 AM To: Mikrotik discussions Subject: Re: [Mikrotik] Ethernet port ordering With x86 it should go in order of PCI slots with onboard being first, I believe. Re: [Mikrotik] Ethernet port ordering
We have 4 port ethernet cards in our main AMD based router running MT. . When we've swaped to new box, the restore doesn't always get it right. Mostly due to whether or not onboard lan was enabled. The 4 port card is always sequential, just sometimes not always at the beginning or end. Winbox doesn't show the port number, but terminal screen does under /int print. Helps me keep them straight after I've renamed them. - Original Message - From: "Josh Luthman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mikrotik discussions" Sent: Friday, November 07, 2008 5:48 PM Subject: Re: [Mikrotik] Ethernet port ordering With that being the case take note if you have to replace the board and do a backup/restore!
