Master Course: Professional Program Development and Funding Certification (May 31 - June 2, 2011, University of Miami)
The North American Program Planning and Policy Academy will be conducting the Certificate in Professional Program Development and Grant Proposal Writing Master Course at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL on May 31 - June 2, 2011. Interested development professionals, researchers, faculty, and graduate students should register as soon as possible, as demand means that seats will fill up quickly. Please forward, post, and distribute this e-mail to your colleagues and listservs. For more information call (800) 649-6522 or visit The NAPPPA website at http://www.napppanetwork.org. Please find the program description below: The Certificate in Professional Program Development and Grant Proposal Writing Master Course is a three-day, intensive and interactive experience in which participants will be led through the program development, grant writing, and funding acquisition processes through the completion of four courses. This Certificate Program is not a seminar. Participants will actively engage in exercises and activities designed to strengthen their mastery of grant acquisition. Through the completion of varying assignments, students will leave the program with a real grant proposal outline complete with quality research, solid content, and expert review. This program focuses on combining the fundamentals of grant proposal writing with expert knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles. The Master Course is complete with advanced communication and persuasion techniques, customized grant programs for each participant, and valuable course material that acts as a resource long after the course is complete. Definitely an organizational investment, the culmination of the course is materialized by the completion of the Program Development Dossier which will allow the recipient certified professional and their organization an advanced foundation for future program pursuits, funding applications, and organization development efforts. The Certificate in Professional Program Development and Grant Proposal Writing Master Course will cover the following modules during the three day master course: (1) Program Development and Evaluation This course is centered around the belief that âitâs all about the program.â This intensive course will teach professional program development essentials and program evaluation. While most grant writing âworkshopsâ treat program development and evaluation as separate from the writing of a proposal, this session will teach students the relationship between overall program planning and all strategic fundraising, including grant writing. Consistent in our belief in strategic fundraising, this session encourages students to understand successful program development and to think strategically about funding as an integral part of the overall program planning process. This class turns participants into experts by teaching them how to take ideas and concepts and turn them into professionally developed programs. (2) Advanced Grant Proposal Writing Designed to obtain tangible results, this session will make each participant an overall proposal writing specialist. In addition to teaching the basic components of a grant proposal, successful approaches, and the do's and don'ts of grant writing, this session is infused with expert principles that will lead to a mastery of the process. Strategy resides at the forefront of this session's intent to illustrate grant writing as an integrated, multidimensional, and dynamic endeavor. Each student will learn to stop writing the grant and to start writing the story. Ultimately, this course will illustrate how each component of the grant proposal represents an opportunity to use proven techniques for generating support. (3) Strategic Funding Research At its foundation, this session will address the basics of foundation, corporation, and government grant research. However, this course will emphasize a strategic funding research approach that encourages writers to see research not as something they do before they write a proposal, but as an integrated part of the grant seeking process. Students will be exposed to online and database research tools, as well as publications and directories that contain information about foundation, corporation, and government grant opportunities. Focusing on funding sources and basic social science research, this course teaches students how to use research as part of a strategic grant acquisition effort. (4) Advanced Fundraising Strategies This session will provide students with an arsenal of advanced fundraising strategies based around persuasion and argument techniques. Centered around expert fundraising and marketing principles, this strategy session will change the way students conceptualize grant proposals and other fundraising tools. This course is grounded on the idea that fundraising and nonprofit development are essential acts of advocacy and must be treated as such. This session

Interesting Rick, I will do tests setting auto on ubiquity, My doubt ... Why windows vista on both sides have speed up to 10mb/s when a do an download ? Re: bandwidth problem
The Ubiquity is likely an unmanaged device, it probably does auto only or is at least configured for auto. When the obsd box is set to full duplex, the auto negotiation fails on the Ubiquity box and defaults to half duplex, resulting in the poor bandwidth. When the obsd box is set to auto, auto negotiation succeeds on both sides, and we get full duplex on both sides. This is normal behavior. Thanks Mark I checked this on AP's and it are enabled, The structure is : OBSD 1-AP-AP___APAP--OBSD2** |___ AP 2 and 3 are linked with Cable ( Ubiquiti *Rocket M5 ) four AP's The cable are plugged direct on OpenBSD Boxes, without switches, but as i said on AP's are enabled * 2011/3/16 Mark Felder > On Wed, 16 Mar 2011 13:30:21 -0500, R0me0 *** > wrote: > > Please, someone can indicate the right direction to resove this ? >> > > The first step in troubleshooting this is checking the switch or router > your OpenBSD machine plugs into. Re: Need help with logging fork() calls
Hi Alexander, After having tried out ktrace and now accton. I can say this was a very superb suggestion. accton (you have to use sa to view accton summary) tabulates which commands were invoked and sorts everything much better than I could ever dream of, and its in base! Just exactly what I needed to see. Re: bandwidth problem
With the tests that I do, I think that is something with full-duplex, because if I set ifconfig media 100baseTX on both side, I have the same speed that media autoselect ( and this is 100baseTX full-duplex ) But the download speed not is as windows boxes ( 10mb/s ) is 1,8mb/s Regards, > >> The list is going to ask you for some of these points: > http://www.openbsd.org/report.html > > -luis

bandwidth problem
Hello misc, I have a network with wireless and bridge mode on AP's. I put IP address on both sides and ping it normally. On left side have a notebook with windows vista and smb share and on right side have other notebook with same configuration. When I try copy the file on smb, the speed is 10MB/s, it is very fast, I copied files with 50mb size, 500 and 2gb . realy, it is very fast. this test I do on both sides But now, begin my problems. On both sides I have a OpenBSD 4.8 i386. If I set on both side ifconfig media 100baseTX mediaopt full-duplex , my speed down dramatical, +/- the download of same file is 25kb/s , but if set ifconfig media autoselect The speed is 1,8mb/s The problem is the speedy, I'm rebelled ! As the fu* of windows is 10x more fast that my OpenBSD box! I cannot believe in this ! what are occur ? I replaced my ethernet on both sides, but I cannot have the same speed as in test. I tried many configuration with IFCONFIG media , with and without pf enabled and the same thing. Thanks for your answer but even when I restart the session (down+up or a network restart with -inet6 in my hostname.pppoe0) I keep sending IPv6CP requests. I finally asked my ISP to enable IPv6 connectivity on my line but even in this case I went on spamming its logs with the same messages as before (the "IPV6CP: Configure-Request, Unknown IPV6CP code 0x0" message seems weird by the way) still traduced by lot of "No interface identifier in IPV6CP request" in its logs. Besides, I wasn't able to configure a working IPv6 connection. As a temporary solution, I fell back to the userland pppoe(8). I really would rather use the kernel one, but with pppoe(8) my ISP is not spammed anymore by IPv6CP requests and I have working IPv4 and IPv6 connections. -- Christophe

ftp-proxy multi ISP
Hello all, Running amd64 4.8-stable firewall with NAT load-balancing outgoing connections to 2 ISPs. My issue is that sometimes ftp works and sometimes doesn't on the load balancing setup. If I use the uplinks individually, then ftp works without a hitch. Other types of traffic work fine AFAICT on the load balancing setup. One ftp-proxy instance is run off rc.conf.local without any flags. Followed the FAQ on multiple routes !/sbin/route add -mpath default ... on the corresponding hostname.if files Have net.inet.ip.multipath=1 on my sysctl.conf I've been looking into the -T option for ftp-proxy but I still need a clue-by-four on this one. Any help on this topic would be much appreciated. libssl errors with Plone 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 on OpenBSD 4.8
When I try to install Plone 4.0.4 (and 4.0.3 couple of months ago) on OpenBSD 4.8, as follows, I get an error $ sh ./install.sh --with-python=/usr/local/bin/python2.6 zeo ZEO Cluster Install selected Detailed installation log being written to /root/Plone-4.0.4-UnifiedInstaller/install.log Testing /usr/local/bin/python2.6 for Zope/Plone requirements /usr/local/bin/python2.6 looks OK. We'll try to use it. Unable to find libssl or openssl/ssl.h. If you wish to build without SSL support, run install.sh again with --without-ssl flag. Otherwise, install your platform's openssl-dev libraries and headers and try again. I changed the install.sh file from if ([ "$HAVE_LIBSSL" != "yes" ] || ["$HAVE_OPENSSL_SSL_H" != "yes" ]) && [ "$WITHOUT_SSL" != '1' ] ; then to if ([ "$HAVE_LIBSSL" != "yes" ] && [ "$HAVE_OPENSSL_SSL_H" != "yes" ]) && [ "$WITHOUT_SSL" != '1' ] ; then and Plone 4.0.4 did install. However, I am not sure whether this is the correct way to do this. I asked this question on the Plone lists without getting any answers for the past month so thought I would ask here. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me. Vijay Vijay Sankar vsan...@foretell.ca
Re: Support for Intel X520-T2 10GbaseT cards
Hello again and thanks for the patch. I started out with a fresh install of 4.8 GENERIC (amd64, MP), applied the patch and recompiled the kernel. The line numbers were not correct, but otherwise it looked the same. After reboot dmesg showed that the cards now have been found and I have the ix interfaces in ifconfig. Unfortunately the cards aren't too keen on talking to the network. I can't ping other hosts on the same subnet, and if I try to ping from another machine directly connected to the nic, all tcpdump shows me is this: # tcpdump -i ix0 tcpdump: listening on ix0, link-type EN10MB 16:01:05.254579 Broadcast af:de:21:93:a6:3c 60: 4001 b955 c0a8 0002 c0a8 0001 0800 00cb 0b04 0003 99cf 804d 053e 0e00 1011 16:01:06.254355 Broadcast af:de:1d:b5:94:e1 60: ff01 6cc0 c0a8 0001 c0a8 0002 2ccb 0b04 0002 98cf 804d e23e 0e00 1011 No echo requests or replies, nothing else. Seems arp is not resolving as it should, "arp -a" just hangs at the console. And if I try to show the routing table, with "route show" it also just hangs there and won't show anything but if I take the interface down, the table shows as it should. I guess the driver may need some more work to get this card running and I would be happy to see support for this in an upcoming release. Re: amd64/i386 kernel freezes on Asus M4A785TD-V EVO mobo
On 03/14/11 21:06, Scott McEachern wrote: I bought some new hardware the other day, including an Asus M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard and an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T CPU. The problem is that the kernel freezes when booting any of: bsd.rd, for either amd64 or i386, -current or 4.8-stable; any GENERIC kernel for amd64/i386 -current or 4.8-stable on an installed system. (partial dmesgs below). I have a spare P4 and can easily swap the HDD between it and the new box, so I can install i386 or amd64 on it, and drop the drive into the new box to test. Although I haven't a clue what most of the BIOS knobs actually do, I've tried fiddling with every setting I can, and I always get the same freeze. The knobs I've played with include: - ACPI SRAT table enabled/disabled - Plug and Play OS No/Yes - Suspend mode Auto/S1 (POS) only/S3 only - ACPI 2.0 support enabled/disabled If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'm dying to get my OS of choice working on this machine! Since I have a spare box and can swap HDDs easily, I'm more than willing to work with anyone to test code in amd64 or i386-land in 4.9-current. I'm ready to freak out that my brand-new workstation won't run OpenBSD. :( Below are (probably too many) hand-typed dmesgs in the hope that together they might help someone deduce what the problem is. FWIW, I've just tried today's amd64-current snapshot (March 14) and I get the same results as with the March 2 snap shown below. I recently built a similar system and installed both i386 and amd64 -current systems without any noticeable drama. I've appended the dmesg from both arch's for your reference.
