smtpd and virtuals

2011-10-07 Thread David Walker
Hi.

inet <-> hosting.com <-> mail.hosting.com

smtpd.conf ...

listen on ext
map "virtuals" { source plain "/etc/mail/virtuals.plain" }
accept from all for virtual virtuals relay

virtuals.plain ...

postmas...@hosted.com somewh...@gmail.com

I can send mail from external to local accounts on the box (and alias
them) by various methods - using the ISP provided PTR name and
explicitly accepting mail for that "domain", changing the hostname of
the box, fiddling with DNS, so on.
I can send mail from the box to external addresses (including the
gmail address) if I add the appropriate rule and so on.

So ...
I think routing/filtering is fine - mail comes in and mail goes out.
Also, the mail machine is resolving (doing lookups) okay - I can do
"host" commands from there.

If I send mail to the virtual domain I get "bounces" back to the
originating server - recipient rejected.
If I check the default log (/var/log/maillog) on the mail machine I
see the mail is getting that far and the same error is there -
recipient rejected.

Sample from my ISP mail server:
Final-Recipient: rfc822;postmas...@hosted.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0 (permanent failure)
Remote-MTA: dns; [w.x.y.z]
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 530-'5.0.0
Recipient rejected: postmas...@hosted.com' (delivery attempts: 0)

That's a good facsimile of what's in the log on the mail machine and
all the domain names and IP addresses are correct.
I've checked smtpctl show (run)queue and they're empty.

It seems that DNS records for both domains (the hosted and the
hosting) are fine as mail sent to the hosted domain makes it the
hosting machine (AKA - it hits the logs).

One thing that concerns me is PTR resource records.
I'm working through that at the moment but it's fair to say if I can
send mail from that machine to the gmail address that's "good enough"
for now right?

Before I go and set up smtpd logging next week, does this look in the ballpark?
I've spent a couple of days on this over the last month - walking to
the shop and fiddling with the servers and walking home and sending
email ...
Every time I say "start logging smtpd" I say "it should work ... let
me try this first" and the walking back and forth begins.
If it's not an obvious error I will be more rigorous.

Best wishes.

microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse

2011-10-07 Thread j
Tried a MS wireless "media" kb and mouse, model 1000. Ohh, that was a pain.

xev showed that a scroll up was a mouse button 1 plus mouse button 4. It
showed me how it could open 45 xterms in half a second. I took it back.

Now I'm trying a MS model 1000 wireless kb and mouse. This mouse does not
work at all. Cannot get any action -- no mouse button 1, no scroll,
nothing.

This is on a new Lenovo B575 laptop with new AMD E-350 chipset.

Anyone have any success with this?

So what is this commit about then?

you give him DUID.

Or does it mean `boot' can't pass to kernel root device parameter?

Re : Re : Php script using adodb cannot connect to mysql when executed in chroot /var/www [SOLVED]

2011-10-07 Thread Mik J
Hello,

I would like to thank Richard and Pavel for their answers.
The problem
did not come from a permission of mysql.sock or because of a name resolution
(I had /var/www/etc/hosts)

The php script could not load mysql.so
I have
passed the argument -c /etc/php.ini (/var/www/etc/php.ini) to make sure of the
php configuration file that was used.
In php.ini I changed/added those two
lines
extension_dir = "/lib/php/modules"
extension=mysql.so
And copied
mysql.so in /var/www/lib/php/modules

Case 1: it worked because php.ini in
/etc/php/php.ini was used or maybe another one which was properly configure.
Case 2: Apache loaded mysql.so properly.
Case 3: didn't work for the reasons
metionned above.

Explained like that it looks obvious but I've spent a lot of
time isolating the problem and getting it solved.
And by the way, I was doing
this troubleshooting to have Cacti work inside the chroot.

Have a nice week
end

Short answer, no.

Why do you want to boot from an external USB stick instead of booting from the
hard disk? You can still use softraid crypto with a keydisk and it will now
automatically select the softraid volume as your root device, if you run
installboot on the softraid volume. See Josh Grosse's recent undeadly article
for ideas:

  http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20111002154251

Or Stefan Sperling's older one article (with some minor tweaks - basically
skip the GENERIC customisation with a hardcoded root device):

  http://www.undeadly.org/cgi?action=article&sid=20110530221728

Re: OpenBSD 4.9 with softraid

2011-10-07 Thread Ben Short
Hi,

I've put the install cd back in and dropped out to the shell then executed
the commands.

#cd /dev
#sh /dev/MAKEDEV sd1
#dd if=/dev/sd0a of=/dev/sd1a

Then dd reported no errors.

Thanks

Ben

The 10/5/2011 snapshot worked like a charm!

*Successful* dmesg below. Thanks for your help!

Re: DUID base root device for kernel

2011-10-07 Thread Jiri B
It looks it is already possible to have duid for root device:

http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/sys/kern/subr_disk.c#rev1.120

I will test during weekend.

I suppose /dev/sd0a is mounted. I think you need to do the copying by dd
when sd0a isn't mounted. You could boot from the ramdisk kernel (bsd.rd)
and work from its shell.

Another viable option might be dump/restore. (a.o., read dump(8),
restore(8), FAQ 10.2 and 14.10)

OpenBSD 4.9 with softraid

2011-10-07 Thread Ben Short
Hi,

I have been following this guide

http://jpiasetz.tumblr.com/post/483365684/software-raid-on-openbsd-using-softraid

The only difference is my drives are sd0 and sd1 which result in the raid
drive sd2 being created.

When I get to the step where I need to copy whats on the first drive to the
second but I get the following error

# dd if=/dev/sd0a of=/dev/sd1a
dd: /dev/sd0a: Device busy

Can anyone tell me what I need to do next?

Regards

Ben
