increasing NET_TASKQ for better performance?

Hello Misc,

I run OpenBSD 7.3 as L3 firewall under VMware. I have some rdr-to rules.

Here System information:
cpu15: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6338 CPU @ 2.00GHz, 1995.63 MHz, 06-6a-06
I know CPU cores are not at too important at the moment but this server has 16 
cores on it.
I use vmx nics. dmesg is attached.

When traffic becomes high(*) systems slows. (Users say RDP connections are slow)
When I checked uptime load average was ok but yeah OpenBSD was slow.
For example, when I enter ifconfig command system was not too fast.

After that I looked at top -SH output and see 3 of softnet tasks were over %74 
and was ~%40.

Would you suggest to increase the NET_TASKQ value to 8 or 16 (number of cores 
in the system) and use a custom kernel?
Also, just wonder if it's CPU core dedicated value or not?

P.S. I don't use pfsync and it's not in my plan...

(*) At problem time; egress traffic was nearly 800mbps. 35K pf states.
300K pps ipv4 forwarding...

Possible typo in pf NAT FAQ

Hi list

I think I have found a typo in the pf NAT FAQ here:
https://www.openbsd.org/faq/pf/nat.html. In the
"Configuring NAT" section it says:

  The general format in pf.conf looks something like this:

  match out on interface [af] \
 from src_addr to dst_addr \
 nat-to ext_addr [pool_type] [static-port]
  [...]
  pass out [log] on interface [af] [proto protocol] \
 from ext_addr [port src_port] \
 to dst_addr [port dst_port]

As you can see, the pass rule says "from ext_addr".
But beneath the description of the various options, it
says:

  This would lead to a most basic form of these lines similar to this:

  match out on tl0 from 192.168.1.0/24 to any nat-to 198.51.100.1
  pass on tl0 from 192.168.1.0/24 to any

Here you can see that the "from" part is what the
above description calls the src_addr, not the
ext_addr, as it claims. This makes much more sense and
is consistent with all the other documentation that
I've seen.

So could it be a typo in the docs? Or have I missed some things?

I remember this kind of error when I managed in the past, many years ago,
to ruin the FS.

I am going to do what you suggested now but I have updated the system with
sysupgrade and it runs fsck anyway. The first time I pressed F as you say
and marked the system as clean. But will try now what you say.

7.3 on Zotac O1520 makes it unbootable

Hi folks,

if I install 7.3 on a Zotac O1520 on its internal SATA disk (MBR or UEFI),
then the system gets stuck during BIOS self test on the following reboots.
Without removing the disk I cannot even enter BIOS or select a boot media.

Surely OpenBSD is not to blame here. But its a pity. I'd loved to use it as
a cool desktop PC running a cool OS.

I haven't had a chance to get the usual dmesg output yet, but I wonder if
somebody has an idea by looking at the technical data on
