VNConfig Encryption
Is the vnconfig encrypted filesystem command meant to be a highly secure system like Scramdisk, or is it only meant for low level security? I believe it should be strong due to Blowfish, but I haven't actually looked at the source. What I'm asking, is if this option meets the rest of the OpenBSD project's standards of security and robustness. Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
SVideo Output
I would like to get hook my TV up to my OpenBSD system using the S/Video and headphone ports. The sound plays fine but I can't get the video to work. I failed to get atitvout to compile, and I haven't had any luck with gatos tv_output either. Isn't there some modification to x.org for the s/video output configuration? Re: Blowfish still good enough?
I certainly hope that if new ciphers are added to svnd, that Blowfish is still included. Many of my previous file systems use Blowfish, and it is my preferred algorithm. Just $16.99/mo. or less. dsl.yahoo.com
Re: Blowfish still good enough?
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Blowfish has been extensively analyzed since 1993. It is believed to be secure. As far as the 64 bit blocks go: most solid encryption programs generally use a block chaining mode, to group multiple blocks together. Encrypt one block, XOR it with the next, etc. Even if collisions were found in the ciphertext, the most the attacker could deduce is that they represent the same plaintext block. If the attacker didn't previously know what that ciphertext block meant, it wouldn't really do them any good. I think Blowfish is a great choice for the encryption algorithm. Besides, factor this into the mix: Blowfish uses a key up to 448 bits. Twofish goes up to 256 bits, as does AES. AES may or may not have been broken based on the XSL attack. So the key size is an atvantage over Twofish, and the years of review makes for an advantage over AES. Just $16.99/mo. or less. dsl.yahoo.com

Slow DVD Speed
I am having slow DVD burning speeds. I am running OpenBSD 3.6 Release. I looked in the FAQ and I saw the following: ---Begin FAQ quote--- Why am I not getting the writing speed I expected? Instead of the above writing output, you may see something like: 4784128/1545832448 ( 0.3%) @0.7x, remaining 26:50 7929856/1545832448 ( 0.5%) @0.7x, remaining 29:05 14123008/1545832448 ( 0.9%) @0.7x, remaining 27:06 ... which is much slower. It means you are somehow not getting enough throughput on whatever bus your DVD writer is using. In the above example, the USB DVD writer was attached to a machine on which the ehci(4) driver, used by USB 2.0 controllers, failed to initialize properly. As always, you are welcome to provide patches and test results. The DVD writer fell back to the slower USB 1.1 interface, which causes reduced throughput. Indeed, USB 1.1 is limited to 12 Mbit/s, which amounts to 1.43 MB/s or 1.08x in DVD speed terms. The DVD writer falls back to a lower pace than the maximum, to reduce the risk of buffer underruns. ---End FAQ quote--- I'm getting speeds of about 0.2x. I will attach my dmesg file. What should I do to fix this problem? [demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type application/octet-stream which had a name of dmesg.boot]

So there is currently no driver working for OpenBSD that allows TV-out with a ATI Mobility M3? I did look into the gatos program, and I got an error message saying I needed an updated linux kernel. How do I go about using the ports copy of gatos-bin? I extracted the ports file in the /home directory and went into the gatos-bin directory and typed make, but it didn't work. Also, if gatos would work, how would I configure it for video-out? Would it automatically start with XFree, or would I have to start it with some command?
