Problems with wireless: no routing table after /etc/netstart

2009-03-14 Thread Shagbag OpenBSD
I'm using 4.4-RELEASE with a Netgear WG111T USB wireless adapter (uath0).
My /etc/hostname.uath0 file is a simple 'dhcp NONE NONE NONE'.
When I run /etc/netstart I get a valid IP from my dhcp server but there's no
routing table (it's completely blank).
However, when I use ethernet and run /etc/netstart, I do get a rounting
table.
What am I doing wrong?

How to mount samba shares in OpenBSD?

2009-03-11 Thread Shagbag OpenBSD
'running 4.4-RELEASE here.
I've got SAMBA running on my Chuck Norris/kick-ass OpenWrt file server but I
want to mount those shares onto my OpenBSD laptop.
I've read the smbclient man page and I've googled.
Is sharity-light the only (client) option?

Can someone please suggest a replacement for xterm for me?

I will go out on a limb here and say: yes - PROVIDED it is never switched on
and it is kept unplugged. Security is a process not a product.

iwn-firmware-5.1.tgz appears broken

2009-02-23 Thread Shagbag OpenBSD
I'm running 4.4-RELEASE and recently bought an Intel WiFi Link 5300
Mini-PCIe card after reading it's supported in OpenBSD.
I read the iwn(4) man page and downloaded the iwn-firmware-5.1.tgz package
from Damien Bergamini's site.
However, it won't install.
When I run

# pkg_add ~/iwn-firmware-5.1.tgz

I get the error:

Unknown element: @sha w3sqz+8K0SziZxyoPEQ5+7Ba6pZOfxJkndWq6zvr3PQ= in
SCALAR(0x853c3ab0), at /usr/libdata/perl5/OpenBSD/PackingList.pm line 301,
<$fh> line 6.

iwn-firmware-5.0.tgz installs without any reported problems, but the iwn(4)
man page clearly states "The driver needs at least version 5.1".

Is this a common problem and can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Kind regards

A virus road map for GNOME and KDE?

Does anyone have a view on it (other than the obvious ones: "security is a

P.S. have I posted this in the right list (I'm still new to mailing lists)?

PCmanFM 0.3.5.10 - how do I associate file types with applications?

2009-01-29 Thread Shagbag OpenBSD
I'm using PCmanFM 0.3.5.10 on top of Openbox 3.4.7.2 (I'm trying to run a
minimalist system).

Currently, when I right-click on a .png or .jpg file in PCmanFM I get an
option "open with > open with another program". I would like it to show
"open with > GQview" since I use GQview to view images.

I believe the solution has something to do with associating MIME-types to
applications (I could be wrong about this), but I don't know the first thing
about how to do it.

I've googled and googled but haven't found the solution. The PCmanFM
homepage doesn't give any guidance either.

Can anyone please help me with my dilemma?

Kind regards

No. That's fixed it. I can now print with 'lpr -PHPLJ1018'. Thanks. It's
a mystery to me, however, why AbiWord doesn't see my printer by default
while Firefox does.

I had to create the /var/spool/output/lpd directory as it didn't exist.
I then had to chmod it to 777 as AbiWord complained about permissions.
I have one printer on my home network. It is called 'HPLJ018'.
I tried lpr -PHPLJ1018 but I got the messages:

lpr: connect: No such file or directory
jobs queued, but cannot start daemon.

I'm clueless as to what this means.
I also tried lpt -Psocket://192.168.1.1:9100/printers/HPLJ1018 but that gave
me the error message

lpr: socket://192.168.1.1:9100/printers/HPLJ1018: unknown printer

I really appreciate you guys helping me out. Could you please tell me what
I'm doing wrong?

Firefox and Abiword don't see my printer

2009-01-28 Thread Shagbag OpenBSD
I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. I have an HP LaserJet
1018 printer attached to my linux server on which I am running the p910nd
daemon. My OpenBSD (4.4-RELEASE) laptop has cups installed and cups can see
the printer (ie. when I look for printers in Firefox at
http://localhost:631I can see the printer listed as operating). I
have compiled the foo2zjs
printer driver (needed for the HPLJ1018) on my OpenBSD laptop without any
problems.

However, Firefox (File > Print) only shows 'Print to File' in my list of
printers and AbiWord (File > Print) only shows 'Create a PDF document' and
'Generic Postscript'. Neither gives any option for my HPLJ1018. I have the
ePDFview package installed on my OpenBSD laptop and, surprisingly, it
recognises the printer and I have no problems printing from it.

Has anyone experienced this problem and knows the answer? Why does ePDFview
work while Firefox and AbiWord don't? How do I get them to work?

Kind regards
