OpenBSD product distribution will move
At the end of September, OpenBSD distribution will move to a new distributor. As a result the old stock (CDs, Tshirts and posters) will become unavailable. Order them now, because they are going extinct! Last chance for some of those shirts..
new OpenSSL flaws
We are sorry that the errata for these libssl security issues are not up yet. The majority of these issues are in our ssl library as well. Most other operating system vendors have patches available, but that is because they were (obviously) given a heads up to prepare them over the last few days. OpenBSD / LibreSSL did not receive any heads-up from OpenSSL. So hold on, we'll try to have errata out in a few hours.
Calgary, this Tuesday
I'm sorry for the late public announcement... Tomorrow (Tuesday) Bob Beck will be hurtling down the Highway from Edmonton to Calgary. Then in the evening, he and I will present at the local calgary unix group meeting about recent changes in LibreSSL, OpenBSD, and how the OpenBSD Foundation fits into this. http://www.cuug.ab.ca/
APU firmware
For those of you with PC-Engines APU systems, a BIOS which works a lot better can be found about halfway down http://pcengines.ch/apu1c.htm Good luck. I hope they have it on newly shipped boards..
One thinkpad still wanted
Jonathan Gray and Mark Kettenis are still missing one generation of Intel video. They need a Arrandale/Ironlake model. The Thinkpad x201 is the best laptop for this. They could use a laptop from a different vendor. To verify, pcidump -v will show that the HD Graphics device has a Product ID of 0046. Looking to receive it in either in Netherlands, Australia, or here in Calgary so that I can get it to them at the next hackathon. Actually, since the next hackathon is happening fairly soon, we could receive it in a number of other places as well, as long as that is soon. Thanks.
Request for Funding our Electricity
Hi everyone. The OpenBSD project uses a lot of electricity for running the development and build machines. A number of logistical reasons prevents us from moving the machines to another location which might offer space/power for free, so let's not allow the conversation to go that way. We are looking for a Canadian company who will take on our electrical expenses -- on their books, rather than on our books. We would be happiest to find someone who will do this on an annual recurring basis. That way the various OpenBSD efforts can be supported, yet written off as an off-site operations cost by such a company. If we reduce this cost, it will leave more money for other parts of the project. We think that a Canadian company is the best choice for accounting reasons. If a company in some other jurisdiction feels they can also do this successfully, we'd be very happy to hear from them as well. I am not going to disclose the actual numbers here. Please contact me for details if serious. Thanks.
Wanted in Calgary: Battery for Perc 6/i
If anyone in Calgary has a battery for a Dell Perc 6/i RAID controller available, we urgently need one. That's a Dell RAID card, they are the 3.7V 7A batteries with the multicoloured wire. (Urgently, as in I can't find anyone to get us one within 2 weeks; and the order placed a week ago still is not here). Thanks.
Sorry OpenBSD people, been a bit busy
Hi, yeah, it is really me. I find it strange posting to misc, starting an email thread. Normally I finish the threads here. Most OpenBSD developers have known for a while, but I think it is important to tell the greater community that I've been a bit busy for about the last year. I have not been paying as much attention to OpenBSD development as I'm expected to. Luckily, other developers have done a great job keeping it on track. Why? With a group of others, I started setting up an Internet Exchange in Calgary, and this has taken much time because it is highly politicized and has encountered some resistance. http://yycix.ca https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YYCIX_Internet_Exchange_Community_Ltd Now, why do I mention this in relation to OpenBSD? Well, at the end of 2007 someone decided to open an impersonation account on twitter in my name, and start sending a mix of things I have said (see wikiquote for instance), with things that I would never say. That account is http://twitter.com/theoderaadt A few notes: The account has now changed to declare that it is a parody account and renamed to "Not Theo de Raadt", as of a few days ago. If you read back into the past, you will see true character of the account and the individual. People in the local community were directed to the account, to give a negative, if not slanderous, view of my character. The ones directing them have high-profile roles in the community, so people would take what they say as true. Since I am the network manager for the exchange equipment, this by extension was meant to hurt YYCIX. Why would stewards of important infrastructure projects deliberately spread such false stories? I will not mention names. I don't need to; many can dig a little and figure out who those actors are. As a hint, search a little bit higher. Finally, one thing that particularily bothers me in the old postings is the mention of my old friend Itojun, a very dedicated developer of IPv6. As many of you know, he and John Postel are the only two internet architects currently honoured on an annual basis by the Internet Society in the form of an award. http://www.internetsociety.org/what-we-do/grants-and-awards/awards/itojun-service-award Layers of hurt being thrown around. Why?
5.3 song released
Between pre-release and actual release, I always make the new song available with some fragments of the release artwork. This song was composed by my good friend Bob Kitella. http://www.openbsd.org/lyrics.html http://www.openbsd.org/lyrics.html#53 http://www.openbsd.org/songs/song53.mp3 http://www.openbsd.org/songs/song53.ogg Enjoy. If you want a non-compressed version of it, you will need to pre-order the 5.3 release and wait a little while... http://www.openbsd.org/orders.html
Pre-orders for 5.3
Pre-orders for 5.3 are activated! I think they are activated in the UK too (or will be very soon). Wonder if the first few pieces of art can lead to some guesses of the theme.
