Re: hotmail rejecting messages relay=mx4.hotmail.com., dsn=5.1.2, stat=Host unknown (Unknown error: 275)
I received a private message saying the problem was a bug in libc's resolver that make it fail if there are more than 16 addresses for a name. hotmail recently added a 17th IP address to their servers. and that the bug has been fixed in OpenBSD 5.7. there is supposedly a back port to OpenBSD 5.5 http://cvsweb.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/lib/libc/asr/gethostnamadr_async.c.diff?r1=1.34&r2=1.35 I did not try the back port, since I intended to move to 5.7. which I did and messages again are going to Hotmail I don't know why the original sender just sent a private message. -Original Message- From: owner-m...@openbsd.org [mailto:owner-m...@openbsd.org] On Behalf Of Peter van Oord van der Vlies Sent: Saturday, May 23, 2015 1:44 PM To: Peter Fraser Cc: misc@openbsd.org Subject: Re: hotmail rejecting messages relay=mx4.hotmail.com., dsn=5.1.2, stat=Host unknown (Unknown error: 275) > Op 23 mei 2015 om 17:54 heeft Peter Fraser het volgende > geschreven: > > Any message sent to send mail seems to be rejected. OpenBSD 5.6 and 5.7 are the two currently supported releases of OpenBSD, so when possible, you should upgrade to 5.7 or at least 5.6-stable. If you wish to prolong the inevitable, well, then you can do as Matthieu suggests and backport this yourself. :-) -Bryan.

There is a bug in libc's resolver that make it fail if there are more then 16 adresses for a name. This bug has been fixed in OpenBSD 5.7. I recently backported the commit to 5.5 for the very same reason (hotmail became unreachable) without trouble. http://cvsweb.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/src/lib/libc/asr/gethostnamadr_async.c.diff?r1=1.34&r2=1.35 -- Matthieu Herrb
Re: hotmail rejecting messages relay=mx4.hotmail.com., dsn=5.1.2, stat=Host unknown (Unknown error: 275)
I should add that all the mx names resolve with nslookup and a telnet mx4.hotmail 25 does work -Original Message- From: owner-m...@openbsd.org [mailto:owner-m...@openbsd.org] On Behalf Of Peter Fraser Sent: Saturday, May 23, 2015 11:53 AM To: 'misc@openbsd.org' Subject: hotmail rejecting messages relay=mx4.hotmail.com., dsn=5.1.2, stat=Host unknown (Unknown error: 275) Any message sent to send mail seems to be rejected. The mx4 name changes, but the rejection is always the same. It would be nice to know what the unknown error is Does anyone have any idea what is causing the problems I am currently using OpenBSD 5.5 with sendmail (I know I should update it but I haven't got around to it yet)
