Correct, the whole mjpeg tools can only handle mjpeg avi's,
and only AVI's up to 2GB.

I got it working. Apparently, glav (and most other lav and yuv tools),
can handle quicktime with YV12 encoding. Streamer can handle this too.

So you can capture with streamer (or whatever you're prefered tool is),
edit with glav, then do the following

lav2wav foo.edl foo.wav

lav2yuv foo.edl | mencoder -audiofile foo.wav ... -

A big thanks to Ave on #mplayer for this.

[Mjpeg-users] glav and lossless avi's

2003-01-11 Thread Cameron Kerr
Hi there, I get my captured data using streamer (part of XawTV package)
from my BT878 card (lavrec exhibits problems). I capture into .avi with
RGB24 frames, so I have a lossless datastream from which I can process
later (to get rid of ads etc).

I want to capture (using streamer), edit (using what, I don't yet know),
then process into DivX (using mencoder). The capture file is about 40GB
for 2 hours, so I don't want big temporary files (which is why I though
of glav, since it uses edit lists.

I though I would use lavtrans with the editlist and feed the output
directly into mencoder.

Or is glav only for MJPEG streams?

Thanks

Oh boy 500kbps for the video! Basically, that just is not doable with

Well, I can't capture at greater than 320x240 anyway, so it works quite
sufficiently for me (for TV shows anyway). Viewing fullscreen is of
course quite ugly up close, but passable at a distance.

I think I'll aim for about 400MB for an hour for stuff I want to keep.

Thanks for your help everyone. I've decided that mpeg2 based solutions

getting it working at the moment (possibly avifile related).

For instance, things like bitrate, crispness, and keyframes are not set,
so I can't get it below my target of 5MB/minute. I'll check out
VirtualDub (under WINE and in Windows) until such a time as avifile is
working correctly.

FWIW, the lav2divx command I'm using is
lav2divx -E DIV5 -b 600 -o stream.divx stream.avi

Win32 plugin : Using Win32 dll library: divxcvki.dll
Win32 video encoder : W32 Quality 0 KeyFrames: BitRate: 91
Win32 video encoder : W32 Quality 0 KeyFrames: BitRate: 60

Re: [Mjpeg-users] green screen and noise

2003-01-06 Thread Cameron Kerr
I've got it working. In short, I use this command

lavrec --software-encoding --format=a --input=P --use-read
--geometry=320x240 --audio-source=l --audio-volume=100 --time=10 test.avi

This is using the loopback cable that goes into the line-in in my
sound-card. Using a sound-mixer, set the recording source to Line (I
use rexima), and make the volume about 90%

Note that I have used --input=P. I am recording from the Composite1
channel, but P is for SVHS. The key thing to note is that these letters
are dual-purpose. I have a BT878 card, and if you look at the second
part of each latter

  p - PAL through Composite or 1st Bt8x8 input
  P - PAL through SVHS- or 2nd Bt8x8 input
  t - PAL through TV-tuner- or 3rd Bt8x8 input

you will see that we are using the 2nd Bt8x8 input (which is Composite).
I think the documentation could point this out somewhat better.

The only problem I have now is that playback (with lavplay) is rather
quiet.

[Mjpeg-users] Question about SVCD aspect

2003-01-06 Thread Cameron Kerr
Hi all. I'm creating my first SVCD (30 minutes). After mpeg2enc (I'm
following the steps in the HOWTO), I preview it with mplayer, and it
shows up as a strange aspect, taller than it ought to be, and and with
thick black side borders. Also, the image isn't terribly great on the
bottom (colour out of whack, a bit, ahhh, streaky???).

Is this normal for a SVCD (captured using PAL, if it matters).

I've yet to burn it (I'll need to go to a friends place to test it on
his DVD player (plays SVCD also)).

Also, is it normal for a 30 minute recoding to take about 12 hours for
mpeg2enc to process?

Thanks

[Mjpeg-users] green screen and noise

2003-01-05 Thread Cameron Kerr
Keywords: green noise composite v4l video4linux lavrec bttv

I'm new to mjpegtools and video capture in general.

I would like to make a PVR so I can record shows into SVCD (so I'll
actually watch, rather than forget them as I so often do).

I have the following hardware and software installed

AMD K6-2/450
256MB RAM
80GB+ HDD
bt878 (card=30) video4linux
Sound Blaster Live! (emu10k1 module)

Linux 2.4.20
mjpegtools 1.6.1 compiled from source (./configure --without-aviplay).

xawtv and mplayer can view the images perfectly well (although the
colour and brightness need tweaking). I'm currently viewing through
composite (Composite1).

Sound comes from line in (/dev/dsp), via loopback cable from the card.

I use this command to try to capture some video.

lavrec --software-encoding --format=a --input=p --audio-source=l --mute
  --use-read --geometry=320x240 --time=10 test.avi

(I've tried using -d1 and -d2 in lue of --geometry, but it refuses to
start. I think its because I'm using software encoding).

However, when I play it back (using lavplay or mplayer) shows as just a
green with noise at the top 1/5th of the screen, and the sound is noisy.
I cannot reproduce what I see using xawtv. Normally, my VCR (from which
I an getting my source from) is blue, so its not that. /dev/video is not
in use while lavrec is recording.

Also (not sure if its related), but I get a very large (110 over 10
seconds) inserted frames (0 deleted). There are no audio errors or lost
frames. Additionally, when lavrec exits, it complains with the following
line

**ERROR: [lavrec] Error resetting tuner audio params: Invalid argument

Can anyone help me with this?

PS. Is there any useful IRC channels out there for this?

Thanks in advance.
