Re: [Mjpeg-users] Glav errors - Wey-hey!

2004-08-08 Thread Bernhard Praschinger
Hallo

Good news at last! With help from the Mandrake list we tracked down the xawtv
problem. I was given an example of the home dir. .xawtv entry, and I created
mine from that - it was originally blank. Now xawtv can play material
streamed from my camcorder, and LVS can play back avi files.
Fine :)

Now I can really start to learn about the possibilities of LVS. Can I, for
instance, open an existing avi and do the scene-splitting? It looks as
though maybe I have to create an eli first, but I can't see how to do it on
an existing file. I know I can go back to glav if I need to.
After recording you can do a scendetection, or on the commandline with
that command: lav2yuv -S list.eli file.avi

Cutting the videos is not possible in LVS. For that you have glav.

I am gradually finding my way around LVS. The one problem I have found now is
that if I try to play scenes from the edit tab (after scene detection) I get
a rainbow coloured multi-line display instead of the picture. The file plays
back perfectly in Playback, so I assume that I have a setting wrongly
 configured. Any suggestions, plase?
Have you tried unloading (New editlist) the scene list and loaded (open
editlist) it ?

Ok, but can you run the v4l-info for all your /dev/v4l/video* devices,

I checked with Mandrake Control Centre, and it was seeing the card, but it
said that it needed the zr36067 module. I loaded that as well as all the
others that were already listed, and now glav can play the avi files. I also
have a GnomeMeeting icon on the desktop even when the webcam isn't plugged
in, so all is looking good now.

I'll try to get LVS installed today.

Thanks for the help so far.

view a previously recorded avi, but hit problems:

Does you Nvidia card have something like at video out/in ?
 Which is activated too ?

I don't think that is the problem - though it may have been in the old
install. At the moment v4l only seems to be loaded if I hot-plug my webcam.
It's almost as though the zoran driver wasn't loading, but lsmod includes
zr36060, videocodec and v4l2-common. However, I think in the past I had more
modules loaded that referred to zr36060?

  glav -p C /Data/mulan.avi

Sure enough, my video0 had disappeared. I found that I had to plug in my
webcam to get it back. I then checked the perms on /dev/video,
  /dev/video0 and /dev/v4l/video. I then tried again:

  glav -p H /Data/mulan.avi
++: **ERROR: [lavplay] Error requesting buffers: Invalid argument
++: **ERROR: [lavplay] Error reading video frame: avilib - Error reading
from AVI file - Bad address
  ++: lavtools version 1.6.1.93

I tried launching xawtv. I got a message that it couldn't find any tv
card. I then closed it. Nothing changed. I did check with another file,
just in case there was a corruption, but that was the same.

I've tried everything I can think of, but I still keep getting that 'Bad
address' message. What's causing it, please?

Do you have the device file /dev/video ? Usually /dev/video is a link to
/dev/video0. Maybe that link points to some other device, and you have
 to change it.

/dev/video and /dev/video0 both point to /dev/v4l/video0, but that will be my
webcam. No other video device is showing.

How many video devices do you have when you start lvs with -t ?
If you don't have LVS installed yet you can also take a look at the
first line of output from: v4l-info /dev/video
you should get something similair like that:
 ### v4l2 device info [/dev/video0] ###
 general info
 VIDIOC_QUERYCAP
 driver : zoran
 card: DC30plus[0]
 []

I haven't installed it yet - there seemed no point until I get a basic setup.

You might want to try some other devices like /dev/video0 or /dev/video1
Depending on wich device your DC10 really is you have to set the
 LAV_VIDEO_DEV env variable.

Once I have managed to get the DC10+ recognised as a device I may need some
instruction on how to do that.

I'm not soure if unplugging changes the device names. I think you have
to reload the kernel drivers to ge a different device name.

After a change to hardware a lot of things were affected and I ended up
having to do a new install. You may recall that I have a DV10+ and am
working with an NVidia card. I have not yet reinstalled LVS. I tried to
view a previously recorded avi, but hit problems:
Does you Nvidia card have something like at video out/in ?
  Which is activated too ?
I don't think that is the problem - though it may have been in the old
install. At the moment v4l only seems to be loaded if I hot-plug my webcam.
It's almost as though the zoran driver wasn't loading, but lsmod includes
zr36060, videocodec and v4l2-common. However, I think in the past I had more
modules loaded that referred to zr36060?
Depending on your card you should have loded that modules for your
DC10+:
saa7110, adv7175, zr36060, zoran.
If you don't use the CVS version the zoran might have a different name.

If you are not soure if the driver is correct loaded take a look at
/var/log/messages and search for the zoran driver, you will find
information if the driver is correct loaded.

   glav -p C /Data/mulan.avi
++: **ERROR: [lavplay] Error opening /dev/video: No such file or
directory ++: **ERROR: [lavplay] Error getting video parameters: Bad file
   descriptor ++: lavtools version 1.6.1.93
[...]

You don
't have a /dev/v4l/video[0-4] ?

How many video devices do you have when you start lvs with -t ?
If you don't have LVS installed yet you can also take a look at the
first line of output from: v4l-info /dev/video
you should get something similair like that:
  ### v4l2 device info [/dev/video0] ###
  general info
  VIDIOC_QUERYCAP
  driver : zoran
  card: DC30plus[0]
  []
I haven't installed it yet - there seemed no point until I get a basic setup.
Ok, but can you run the v4l-info for all your /dev/v4l/video* devices,
and attach the first few lines like I did. With that information you
also know if the card was detected properly, and should work.

You might want to try some other devices like /dev/video0 or /dev/video1
Depending on wich device your DC10 really is you have to set the
  LAV_VIDEO_DEV env variable.

Once I have managed to get the DC10+ recognised as a device I may need some
instruction on how to do that.
We first need ifnformation if you sucsessfully loaded the zoran driver.

auf hoffentlich bald,

Berni the Chaos of Woodquarter

[Mjpeg-users] Glav errors

After a change to hardware a lot of things were affected and I ended up having
to do a new install. You may recall that I have a DV10+ and am working with
an NVidia card. I have not yet reinstalled LVS. I tried to view a
previously recorded avi, but hit problems:

glav -p C /Data/mulan.avi
++: **ERROR: [lavplay] Error opening /dev/video: No such file or directory
++: **ERROR: [lavplay] Error getting video parameters: Bad file descriptor
++: lavtools version 1.6.1.93

Sure enough, my video0 had disappeared. I found that I had to plug in my
webcam to get it back. I then checked the perms on /dev/video, /dev/video0
and /dev/v4l/video. I then tried again:

glav -p H /Data/mulan.avi
++: **ERROR: [lavplay] Error requesting buffers: Invalid argument
++: **ERROR: [lavplay] Error reading video frame: avilib - Error reading from
AVI file - Bad address
++: lavtools version 1.6.1.93

I tried launching xawtv. I got a message that it couldn't find any tv card.
I then closed it. Nothing changed. I did check with another file, just in
case there was a corruption, but that was the same.

I've tried everything I can think of, but I still keep getting that 'Bad
address' message. What's causing it, please?
