Re: [mkgmap-dev] Create different Maps with working routing betweenthem - is it possible?

Hi Andrzej,

since Garmin does not support Unicode,
I have to use at least different codepages for Europe.

What Garmin Device are you using?

Hi Walter,

At the moment I am looking for a solution for 2 very big parts,
which are in total bigger than 4 GB.

There is no problem with big maps, just do it. All tools support them -
splitter, mkgamp, BaseCamp + Mapinstall and current GPS. I create map of
Europe, which is about 11GB, it works fine. I use 64-bit java to compile
big maps.

I use CP1252 for Europe and English/international names whenever
possible. I think it is the best compromise, especially because some
devices do not support required code pages, like for example there is no
support for CP1250 on Edge.

Multiple code pages would require multiple maps with separate indexes.
To get correct routing between multiple separate maps, each map should
have external routing nodes on boundaries. These nodes should be at the
same position on adjacent maps. I guess mkgmap has no support for that
kind of nodes on irregular country extracts.

Proposed suggestion could be to force external routnig nodes on every
road at crossing of administrative boundary.

Unicode is no problem - except for:
GPS Maps 64 series, Edge 1000 series, and maybe etrex 35 touch? Some Nuvi
also don't like Unicode free/mkgmap maps.

For routing you have to put POIs, ways and addresses in the same layer, but
for this layer you use invisible lines for each routable type like

[_line]
Type=0x07
UseOrientation=N
Xpm="32 1 2 1"
"0 c #FF"
"1 c none"
""
[end]

and for each POIs an invisble1x1 dot

[_point]
Type=0x03005
String1=0x02,Gemeindezentrum
String2=0x04,Community centre
ExtendedLabels=N
dayxpm="1 1 2 1" colormode=16
"$ c #FF"
"% c none"
"%"
[end]

Then you can use transparent layers over this layer to display everything you
want, if you use the nonroutable types.

[_line]
Type=0x11007
UseOrientation=Y
String1=0x02,Zufahrtsweg
String2=0x04,Service
UseOrientation=Y
ExtendedLabels=N
UseOrientation=Y
LineWidth=2
BorderWidth=0
Xpm="0 0 1 0"
"0 c #838383"

2016-01-21 Thread Walter Schlögl
Hello Enrico,

yes, this is the expected behavior.

The img file has to be created in one single part,
otherwise routing over the boarders is not possible.

At the moment I am looking for a solution for 2 very big parts,
which are in total bigger than 4 GB.

One idea is to splitt POIs, ways and areas into 3 layers
and generate every layer into one file.

I have not done it yes, but it could work.

Folks, if I download two countries pbf from geofabrik, merge them via osmosis
and then build a single img map routing works fine across the countries.

If I create two img files, one per country and put it on my garmin device,
enable both maps, I can see all the ways seems correctly linked but routing
across the two countries (maps) fails.

Is that the expected behavior or am I doing somehting wrong?

Thanks,
Enrico
