Hope, users of various said brands will share their experiences. Yes, MM's a116 also has the same issue. But I used talkingDialer and it worked. If someone using MM's 116, updated to 4.2, kindly share your words on accessibility. Re: [Mobile.AI] Accessibility of tuch screen phones onandroidplatform.
Sir, My experience with Samsung chat is not good. The phone has QWERTY keyboard, but it doesn’t have arrow key. The touch screen is very small. So it is not easy to operate the phone with small screen. But now Samsung is providing jelly bean update for the same phone. So you can try. And the best thing is: the phone costs around 5200 on flipkart. But in my view a keyboard without arrow key is of no use practically. Instead of Samsung chat, we should go for other device with at least 4 inch display. Please note: I am not expurt. So I may be wrong in my review. Re: [Mobile.AI] Accessibility of tuch screen phones on android platform.
, dear all, Let me talk about myself, I am using MICROMAX canvas HD A116, whatever i am writing here, it is only my personal views. for me, this device is very excellent! because, this is the most budget mobile in the markat. You will be getting same spects mobile in other brands like samsung, it will be more than 26k. But, you can get this mobile around 14K. the only problem is, this is indian brand. but, it doesn't matar. because, brand doesn't make people, people makes brand. hope you understood what i meen. Now come to the point, I got this mobile with 4.1.2 JB. Apart from dialer everything was accesseble. recently I have updated to 4.2. but, still dialer is not accesseble. but, no worries! there are plenty of aps on google play, so, i am using ap called equaleyes, this is fully accesseble. so, dialer issue has been cleared. now, the only the difference between 4.1 and 4.2 is, we need to double tap to activate any item in 4.1, but, in 4.2 we don't have to double tap to activate any item! by this we can also save some time. 1 more is, in 4.1, we can't able to turn on accessibility, but, in 4.2, we don't have to take any help from sighted to turn on accessibility! all menus are accessible, including google play, youtube, and other aps, like, facebook, friendcaster, firefox, aqua mail,K9mail,etc. Most of the people are habituated for talks and eloquence, so, for them, talkback sounds little uncomfortable. but, there are lot of TTS available in markat which we can use with talkback. still there are lot of things to write. I will update in shortly! There are few suggestions for people who are planning to purchase android devices. don't think only for present, because, android is giving updates each and every year. so, if you want updates in future, go for best configuration mobiles. like, try not to choose less than 1GB ram. Try to go for quatcore processor. try to go for atleast 8MP camra. because, it will be useful for OCR. internal memory should be atleast 4GB. external its up to you. Try to go for stilest mobile. because, after spending this much mony, if it doesn't look stilest, no use. If possible, go for HD display, 5 or more than 5 inch mobile would be great to useto look! if you want small size mobiles, better to go for querty keypad mobiles, but, neverdays, we don't get any keypad mobiles. so, try to go for above suggestion. Those are only my personal views! Hope it will help you Search for previous postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in ___ Mobile.accessindia mailing list Mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in http://accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in to post send mail to: mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in Disclaimer: 1. Hello Aruni sir, one thing I would like to ask. That how is it possible to write sms on touch screen phone? As you have mention here that first navigate the fingur to the desired icon and then double tapping activate the same. Do one hav to follow the same steps in writing sms? Also I would like to know that in symbion system we are able to note down the number using our key pad while talking to some one over the phone. Does android provide the same? Re: [Mobile.AI] Accessibility of tuch screen phones on android platform.
Hi friends, I have recently bought Samsung galaxy s duos. I know it's not running 4.1 or 2 but soon it will be updated. it's size is around our e5 and without keypad so screen size is around 4 inches. regarding typing, we can just slide our finger on the keyboard and after reaching on it we lift our finger. and the thing gets typed. My typing sppe has improved drastically in last few days. All the things are accessibal in this phone I have used gps as well and it's quite ok. web is not that much accessibal in 4.0 so I am waiting for a jb update. Skype, whatsapp, viber, gps, playstore and many more things are comfortable to use. if this device would get a jb update then, it will be among the best phones for a visually impaired people to choose. from my personal experiences, I would say rather buy grand qortro rather than any indian phone. the touch screen of such indian phones becomes slow after some times. also, there have been complaints of hanging from average users. it is only recommended if you want to change your phone after 1 or 1.5 year because micromax, lava, carbon, intex etc etc don't last for later than that. My personal views only. regards On 6/24/13, Siddalingeshwar Ingalagi ingalagisi...@gmail.com wrote: yes, good question. you may be right. But the important question is: do we have any other option? Do we have any qwerty phone? The answer is no. I also believe that touch screen is tough to use. Hi. I think one must wait for the next announcement from apple regarding their next offering. They are in all probability going to launch a cheaper version of iPhone which is worth the wait. I have been using an ipod and have noticed that the device becomes slower after each ios update. This is how old devices are retired from the market. IPhone four is a very old device now. Re: [Mobile.AI] Accessibility of tuch screenphonesonandroidplatform.
Hello all. I think accessibility of different applications in android is only comparable to apple. I mean to say that accessibility on nokia is nowhere close to android. The only advantage nokia accessibility has is simplicity of use. Gps applications are well accessible on android and there are so many gps utilities out that you will be very pleased after using android for a while. There is a learning curve with android, no doubt about that. Hut since nokia is disappearing fast from simbian, there is hardly any choice. Thanks and regards Aruni SharmaAsst. prof. Re: [Mobile.AI] Accessibility of tuch screen phones on android platform.
hi Gufran, double tap applies to icons mainly. For typing you need to find the letter and lift your finger in order to type the same. As I have mentioned in some of my earlier mails, fleksy is coming to android which makes typing very fast and efficient. with fleksy you don't need to find the letters all the time. you simply presume that you are typing on a qwerty. just touch where you think the letters would be, swipe right and the word is inserted. You can select different words by swiping down with one finger. you can read more about fleksy on the web. right now it is in beta. it is not compatible with talkback currently but soon it will be as it has primarily been designed for VI people. secondly as far as taking notes while on the call is concerned, perhaps it may not be as efficient as on nokia for many people, it is of course not impossible. you need to be either on speakers or with head phones. Otherwise also you have to keep the phone at some distance if you want to use the touch screen while on the call because by default the screen is turned off while you are talking so that accidental presses can be avoided. Ultimately it depends on personal preferences which phone or operating system one likes. But Android is full of possibilities and is the most popular platform currently. Re: [Mobile.AI] About sony expiria,
which model is it that your friend is using? there are so many xperias in the market. If the phone has latest jelly bean, the accessibility should be good. Fleksy is right now in beta. One has to join the fleksybeta community and only then fleksy can be downloaded and installed. However, fleksy is not compatible with talkback right now due to issues related to explore by touch. but soon the issue is going to be fixed. There is a podcast which teaches how to use fleksy by temporarily disabling talkback. Also I would like to know that in symbion system we are able to note down the number using our key pad while talking to some one over the phone. Does android provide the same? Actually what happens with the touch devices for the sighted persons is that they straightaway touch an icon and it gets activated. This behaviour changes when a blind person uses the phone. A vi person has to know what icon is under the finger. So the screen reader first announces the icon and then tapping or double tapping the icon for the second time activates the same. As far as the brand is concerned, everybody would have a different take on it. I personally like Indian ones better as I find the phones interface less tweaked and more accessible and convenient. I and many of my acquaintances are using karbon mobiles without any issues. Better idea is to go to the market and see which model suits you the best. You can also read reviews on various sites.
