Re: [Mobile.AI] Android Lollipop 5.0.2 first impressions issues/questions
Here are my few answers to your questions: * muffled reading of initial alphabets - For example, if you swipe to a control labelled as 'Apps', you will be read only a muffled and rather inaudible 'ps'. This is especially problematic while reading extremely short text, consisting of a single syllabled word or an alphabet key on the on-screen keyboard. didn't exactly understood what you meant to say but this can simply be made clear by performing the talkback gesture like spel the last occurance. I genrally get spelt out anything whether short or long with the talkback gesture say for instance, I would highlight the app icon on my home screen by moving my finger on it then from here I would perform the gesture of taking local context menu with swiping up and right and in the circle I would take the option spell the last utterance. My talkback announces the speling as a p p s. don't know what you meant to ask but this is what I understood. So be more clear if it's not the case. * Recent Apps changes - I find the modifications in Recent Apps (its new name is unintelligible because of the above issue) totally redundant and unnecessary. Don't know why you feel to be unintelligent as it's performing the same action as it used to be earlier only with the name change from recent apps button to overview in this version. * unlocking the screen - Previously, I used to place y finger approximately in the center of the screen, and then slide right to unlock my screen, which was extremely convenient, while now I have to locate a button and double tap on it to unlock my device. In fact, this is the most convenient option for me because most of the times I had to try harder to move across the slider to unlock the phone especially if something is already appearing on the screen. But now I have to simply locate the unlock button at the bottom row just at the centre position and tapping twice easily unlocks the phone. It depends on the user's choice but in my case, I would prefer the choice of activating via buttons rather moving the slider. * placement and activation of the Voice Input button - Using the Google Keyboard, previously the Voice Input option was located to the left of the Spacebar key, and could be activated by sliding to it and lifting the finger, whereas now the Voice Input button is present to the top right side of the keyboard area (which is less convenient than its former location in my opinion) and needs to be activated by a further double tap. In my case, this is most convenient as there were chances of getting it activated by mistake in a situation of typing faster as it was situated inside the keyboard area. Most likely I use to activate it by mistake while giving the multiple spaces. Now I will not get messed up with this option totally. I will now use this option if I want to as this is completely seprate one if I don't want to use this feature and only need to type with the keyboard. * prompt to complete certain action with which dialler - Although I do not do anything related to phoning and dialling, whenever I unlock my device, I am presented with a prompt asking me to choose the app with which I would like to complete the action, apps are the Phone app and DW Dialler. This issue began only after the Lollipop update. This need to be confirmed at your end once you update your version. This is not ongoing process unless you choose to have this option always. In my case, before using the dialer, I had been presented with several options like skype, whatsapp, hang out phone etc so here I just highlighted the option phone by tapping single and then at the bottom there will be two buttons like just once and always. So here I tapped twice to activate the always button. Now whenever I am activating the dialer, this doesn't ask me any more. * silence/no announcement to indicate volume change - When I press the Volume keys of my device to change the media volume and the ringer volume, Google Talkback gives no spoken feedback to indicate the change. Instead, there is simply a vibration. This too did not occur before the arrival of Lollipop. This even happened with me after upgrading to this version but you can do this by going in to settings\accessibility\talkback\settings\speech volume match media volume and check this option if its uncheck. I hope that this gives you bit answers to your questions. I am not too techy to provide you with exact solution just tried to understand your concerns. [Mobile.AI] Android Lollipop 5.0.2 first impressions issues/questions
Dear all, In the fifteen minutes of my use of Android version 5.0.2 Lollipop on my Motorolla G second generation, I have thoroughly disliked this new update from an accessibility viewpoint. For your information, I am using the latest stable version of Google Talkback and ESpeak (by Caintewar Technologies). Following are some issues that I've already discovered: * muffled reading of initial alphabets - For example, if you swipe to a control labelled as 'Apps', you will be read only a muffled and rather inaudible 'ps'. This is especially problematic while reading extremely short text, consisting of a single syllabled word or an alphabet key on the on-screen keyboard. * Recent Apps changes - I find the modifications in Recent Apps (its new name is unintelligible because of the above issue) totally redundant and unnecessary. * unlocking the screen - Previously, I used to place y finger approximately in the center of the screen, and then slide right to unlock my screen, which was extremely convenient, while now I have to locate a button and double tap on it to unlock my device. * silence/no announcement to indicate volume change - When I press the Volume keys of my device to change the media volume and the ringer volume, Google Talkback gives no spoken feedback to indicate the change. Instead, there is simply a vibration. This too did not occur before the arrival of Lollipop. I reiterate that I'm thoroughly disliking this update, apart from the webviews accessibility improvements. Does the latest Talkback Beta release fix any of the above mentioned issues, especially the first one? I may consider joining the Beta testing team once again then. Are there any other solutions to the above problem, especially the first one? I would certainly like to courageously stay on Lollipop 5.0.2, however, for my information, and if I change my decision, is downgrading back to Kit Kat a wise decision in your opinion, and is downgradation a simple task? I would appreciate any assistance. -- Warm Regards Bhavya Let me wish you a very Happy New Year before the phone lines get jammed and internet hanged. Happy New Year 2015 ! Re: [Mobile.AI] about Google TTS
yes, i had installed the eyesfree version. well, i'd give it a real try. thanks, Anirban On 1/29/15, Bhavya shah bhavya.shah...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, I suspect you have installed the free version of ESpeak offered by Eyes Free Project. This free version of ESpeak for Android is incompatible with certain higher versions of Android. Also, it isn't maintained/updated. You should consider purchasing ESpeak by Caintewar Technologies, costing Rs. 88.08. Its developer provides reasonably well customer support, develops it fairly actively, and on the whole this text to speech engine is certainly worth a buy, given the price. Since in this case you do not have that version installed, you will need to ask someone else to extract the APK from the version needed, and send it to you. On 1/28/15, Anirban Mukherjee sparsha.anir...@gmail.com wrote: thanks, but, how to get the APK file of the previous version? greetings, Anirban On 1/27/15, Bhavya shah bhavya.shah...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, You will need to procure the APK file of the previous version of Google TTS somehow. If you do procure it, then you should install that, and make sure to uncheck Auto Update in More Options of Google TTS. You may choose the alternative of getting accustomed to the new pronunciations as well. You may also try the other English voices in the Google TTS. You may switch to other text to speech engines, ESpeak is the most inexpensive yet responsive and extremely multi-lingual one, thats what I use presently, and its a major improvement for me over Google TTS. (of course, i am not in a mood to buy one). please help me solve this issue. greetings, Anirban Search for previous postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in ___ Mobile.accessindia mailing list Mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in http://accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in to post send mail to: mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in Disclaimer: 1.
