Hey friends, I have a moto G 2nd gen with latest version of talkback and eloquence on lp 5.02. I am facing following issues. 1. Despite of turning off speak caller ID in talkback, It shouts at the top of its voice whenever I receive a call. 2. The proximity censer has started behaving strangely, works for first 1- 2 mins on the call then the screen doesn't light up when I take it away from my face. Here also during the call, it shouts at the top of its voice, screen off, device locked etc. Ps: have turned on proximity censer, restarted both TB and phone and downgraded TB to the previous release. Re: [Mobile.AI] There's Another Screen Reader, and it Wants to Shine on your Android device
Hi, Rajesh Sir, I will not deny the fact that a keyboard is a more powerful input tool than a Touch Screen. However, we must adapt to our surroundings or bring a positive change. I have chosen the former because it is feasible and suitable for me, and, if you desperately require a hardware keyboard, external keyboard options are always available, from the tiniest sizes up to those several inches big. Try the best combinations of screen readers, text to speech engines, software keyboards and related typing applications, and, see how fast you can go. For instance, Google Keyboard, Jelly Bean Keyboard, Swipe Keyboard, Samsung Keyboard and others are a few recommended and accessible software keyboards, ESpeak and ETI Eloquence are two incredibly responsive text to speech engines, and Shine+ seemingly eliminates audio cutoffs in Lollipop for Motorolla devices (and Samsung ones too), so, another solution to a problem. Now, try with this combination and see if your typing speed boosts... Usage of Simbian makes our mobile experience rather restrictive and old fashioned, and, with rapidly evolving technology, despite our visual impairment, we must make efforts of adapting to various technologies through innovative mechanisms and means. Just a few thoughts on the matter... Thanks. I am not rangling emotionally, but do hope companies would see sense in good old physical keypad to be retained over aesthetically appealing touch screen. Subject: Re: [Mobile.AI] There's Another Screen Reader, and it Wants to Shine on your Android device Hi, Avichal, By IVR, do you mean dialling numbers as instructed during calls to companies technical support or customer care teams? If so, dialling one number is extremely simple and doable. If you require the steps for these, I will willingly provide them, but, if you are referring to something else, do clarify. A keyboard is a more powerful device than Touch Screen, however, if done in the right way, most of the productivity and efficiency can be emulated via a Touch Screen input method, even for the visually impaired. My first device was an Android powered full touch Motorolla G second generation which I am happily usig=ng even now. For places where I require to type, I use Voice Input to emulate the same speed of a keyboard user. All the same, I like my computer and its keyboarding facilities to perform majority of my tasks, however, the same applies to a significant extent to sighted people as well. Anyways, as Harish Sir rightly said, discussing this further would truly lead nowhere. Make efforts to adapt to newer technology and use existing users as an encouragement boosting point to instigate yourself to try hard to make the switch without significant compromises. It is doable. Thanks. On 5/23/15, Avichal Bhatnagar coolavic...@gmail.com wrote: I also feel that physical keypad is the best. When using a full touch screen, using IVR service becomes totally impossible. May newer screen readers continue to shine on android. But, frankly, and here I believe I am speaking for most of totally blind persons above age of 35, that ease of symbian is surely missing in android touch screen phones, and I vehemently lament the loss of that ease and privacy on phone. For me, Even performing a simple task as forwarding messages is an uphill task even after trying and exploring touch screen for about eight months now. Re: [Mobile.AI] need help to use IPhone4s
Hi all, hope all are doing fine as far Preeti mam's queri im shareing with all of you an older article related to get in started using IPhone though this article was little bit lenthy and old, but still it can be refer as a new user of IPhone along with, sharing an podcast linc as well for the same. If it is already have shared priveously, pls accept my apologies for sending long bulky mail on list. so heres is it. 20 Quick Tips to get you Started with your First iPhone Number one rule: your iPhone with VoiceOver running will operate differently to standard iPhone gestures. In addition, VoiceOver will speak some items as real words when in reality on the screen they may be just symbols. So just take this in to account when getting assistance from sighted friends and family, and listen to what VoiceOver is saying. 1.Turning iPhone on: hold down power button (top right) for 2 seconds and release. Takes about 15 seconds for the unlock screen to appear. VoiceOver announces time. Screen will lock after 10 seconds if the screen is not touched. 2.Unlocking the iPhone from the unlock screen: press the Power button (top right or the Home button bottom middle). VoiceOver announces the time. Drag 1 finger up from the Home button (bottom middle) just a little. VoiceOver announces Slide to unlock and Slide or double tap (2nd message is the VoiceOver hint). 1 finger double tap anywhere on the screen to unlock (you don't need to drag your finger). If screen not touched for 15 seconds, screen will lock. When screen unlocked, you are at the Home screen with rows of apps, and the Status menu at the top. 3.Basic VoiceOver navigation of the Main Home screen: 1 finger drag around screen to here what is under your finger or 1 finger flick left or right to move item by item left or right around the screen. 1 finger double tap to activate the item you wish to use. 1 finger flick left or right will only move you between the items on the main screen, it will not access the Status menu (see next point), but dragging 1 finger will. The first row of icons on the main Home screen are: Messages, Calendar, Photos, and Camera, with further rows of icons (apps) below this. At the bottom (of all Home screens), you have 4 apps (icons): Phone, Mail, Safari (web browser), and Music. 4.Accessing Status menu: locate the Speaker grill just below the top edge of the iPhone, and drag 1 finger down just a little. . VoiceOver will announce an item on the Status menu, followed by the announcement Status bar item and Swipe down with three fingers to reveal the Notification centre (second message is the VoiceOver hint). Once in the Status menu, you can 1 finger flick left or right to move left or right to the items in the Status menu: eg signal strength, time, battery status etc. 1 finger drag or touch anywhere on the screen to take VoiceOver out of the Status menu. 5.Practising VoiceOver gestures: VoiceOver itself has a practise mode (much like keyboard practise on desktop screen readers) where you can practise all the gestures with out them actually doing anything besides speaking their function: To do this: Settings, General, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver Practise, and try out a few of the gestures in this document. Press the Home button (bottom middle) to return to the Main Home screen. Remember, you can navigate to all of these items by 1 finger drag or flick left or right to locate each item, and then a 1 finger double tap to select an item. Tip: touching the screen with 4 fingers at the top will jump the voiceOver focus to the top most item on the screen which in the Setting screens is the Back button to go back a screen, 1 finger double tap as usual to activate this if you wish to go back a screen, and of course, 4 finger touch at the bottom of the screen moves the VoiceOver focus to the last item on the screen. 6.Adjusting the volume of VoiceOver: VoiceOver volume is adjusted by using the Volume up and Volume down buttons on the left hand side of the iPhone just below the top left hand edge and below the sleep/wake switch whilst VoiceOver is talking. Two finger flick up will start VoiceOver talking from the top of the screen, whilst talking, press the Volume up or Volume down buttons to control the volume of VoiceOver. When finished, a two finger touch on the screen will stop VoiceOver talking (which can be used any time to silence VoiceOver). 7.Silencing the iPhone: To silence the iPhone, locate the silence/wake switch on the top left edge of the iPhone just below the top. Flicking the switch down towards the back of the iPhone will silence the iPhone (you will feel the iPhone vibrate). Rather than ringing, the iPhone will now vibrate. Flicking the switch up towards the front face of the iPhone, will put it back in normal operation. When in Silent mode, you will not hear any sounds that VoiceOver makes when your touching the the screen (but it will keep talking). 8.Answering and hanging up a call: 2 finger
[Mobile.AI] hardware keyboards for Necsus 7 Tablet
Dear all, Time has arrived to purchase a physical keyboard for my Necsus 7 Tablet which I will be using in my school and taking notes. My requirements for a hardware keyboard are: * compatibility for Necsus 7 Tablet (2012 or 2013 model information unknown) * considerably large to accomodate keys in the most comfortable manner achievable with distinguishable spaces between keys allowing for very fast touch typing speeds * affordable enough, not cheap, but my aim is to get a universally affordable price tag for the physical keyboard I purchase because of the goal of the project for which I am doing this testing * Bluetooth preferable, however, completely okay with Micro USB Most importantly, the physical keyboard recommended must be available in India through e-commerce websites like Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal. I visited local shops and browsed Flipkart, but, haven't really got any suitable models yet. Most are too small and confined disallowing fast touch typing. Others whose layout was reasonably comfortable were from never-to-be-heard brands like Livetek and Digitek without any warrantee. I am not really sure what to do next... By the way, another prime requirement in the keyboard is robustness and sturdiness, because, one must be able to imagine the environment a boy would be in a school, rough and bustly. :) (smiles) Thanks. -- Warm Regards Bhavya Shah Using NVDA (Non Visual Desktop Access) free and open source screen reader for Microsoft Windows To download a copy of the free screen reader NVDA, please visit http://www.nvaccess.org/ Using Google Talkback on Motorolla G second generation Lollipop 5.0.2 Reach me through the following means: Mobile: +91 7506221750 E-mail id: bhavya.shah...@gmail.com Skype id : bhavya.09 Search for previous postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in ___ Mobile.accessindia mailing list Mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in http://accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in to post send mail to: mobile.accessindia@accessindia.org.in Disclaimer: 1.
