But to deride someone for not being apathetic is ridiculous, Mein Furher.

Amen to that. Financial powers that pull the strings behind the curtains
would like nothing better than for people to deride the non-apathetic as
uncool. In fact, that's the way the media cover politics, as celebrity games
of money and power. They deliberately do not cover citizen grass roots
actions, leading a lot of people to look at those who wear political T-shirts
or carry around petitions or join street protests as though they just farted
in public. Congratulations on buying into their game of making apathy the

Re: [MMouse]: Three kings

1999-10-28 Thread grrr

just out of curiosity, what's your proposal on how to stop violence?
there have always been wars and there will always be wars and as long as
some form of government is better than anarchy, there will always be
political agendas that cause death. sorry, but it's true.

On Tue, 26 Oct 1999, Mark Robbins wrote:

Its our president, our government, that caused, and continues to exascerbate

It isn't enough to say, "I didn't vote for him," or "I was to young to vote
for him" because that trivializes the thousands of Iraquis who gave up their
lives for a lie. People don't seem to be outraged anymore..its like the
government has done so many terrible things that when they do something else
its lie.."well thats government". How can someone possibly say that? I just
dont understand..to say that "it was just government" when the CIA was
funneling crack into ghettos to try to enslave an entire generation of black
people, how can the entire country not be outraged by that? How is that
something that huge doesn't even make the back pages of the New York Times?
How can we stand by while our government drops more munitions in six months
than was spent in the entire Vietnam war, to muscle a dictator(that we
established) to the same conditions he agreed to before the bombing started?
And then, stand by while the Indonesian "militias" killing half of a
cultures population in 25 years? Not even the Jews were exterminated with
such depravity for human life, and yet we do nothing, and we say nothing.
When a movie comes that actuall adresses even a sliver of that, and is able
to be viewed by huge numbers of people..that has to be one of the most
substantial things I've heard about in a long time. Even if it is just a
movie, Its making people question the things they read..even if it came from
the new york times, or the wasington post. We have to show them that we
aren't cattle anymore, that if you lie cheat and steal it will not be
tolerated. This movie isn't the panacea..and its not exactly creating an
outcry of support for the Iraqui position, but even a small change in such
 an ingrined infastructre is monumental.
Not only was George Bush my President, he was a fellow human being, and for
me that is more than sufficent to command my disgust.

[MMouse]: Molasses

1999-10-28 Thread Bruce Willen

I saw this band called Molasses play last night. I think that they're made
up of members of God Speed You Black Emperor. Their music was absolutely
haunting and beautiful. They finished up the set with this incredible
interpretation of Amazing Grace. And I'll add that their CD packaging is
quite nice as well, screenprinted silver ink on black paper. If any of you
get a chance to see Molasses play, you really should. The Eyesores opened,
and put on a great show even though they only had their accordian player and
bassist.

You totally misunderstood everything they said. If you dont want to do
anything..fine. If you can sit there and watch as 300,000 people die
because our government gave them the go ahead..fine. If you can watch as
our government drops thousands of tons of radioactive bombs on a defenseless
people..then sit..and no ones really going to care. But don't give shit to
the people who actually risk quite a bit..and give up quite a bit..to make
something better of this world..even if you think all they are are a bunch
of protentious altruistic fucks who don't really accomplish anything.
Because as was stated before, no one really cares...and all you do is just
make our task all the more impossible.

1999-10-28 Thread Russ Sweetser

shit dogg!
i got to hang out with the eyesores for a bit when they played at keene
state college.. the iditarod opened and so dod princeton reverbs
colonial. sadly that kind of show is unappreciated in the area and there
were only about 10 kids.. but i got their first tape and a hub city
compilation.. it was pretty good. the singer kinda has this horrible out
of tune voice at times but its gotten better over time. they are truly
talented tho.. and very nice people, as are the members of the iditarod
(who haunt me)
