[MMouse]: speaking of modest...

2000-07-02 Thread norske ho

i am reading the coolest book ever right now. i dunno if anyone mentioned
this, but if not, everyone must go out and get this book. it's called "the
return of modesty" which is like an updated miss manners except sooo
much better.
"the return of modesty" by wendy shalit so far has given me hope for the
future. there was a time when i felt alone in this world as a girl until i
read this book. basically, at least from what i can tell thus far, the
book is about how female liberation has only oppressed the female gender in
the long run because now we've given males the ability to have more control
of things by being so...open.. it also gives some fresh insights about how
modesty isn't all that bad, and girls shouldn't feel 'weird' about being
modest. god i love this book, EVERYONE GO GET THIS BOOK. this, ugh..this
is the prime example of why i'm glad to be a jew ;) i dunno, i just
thought i was always alone about not wanting to discuss my 'girly issues'
and apparently i'm not.
as for other good books:
the geography of nowhere
shot in the heart
in cold blood
the great gatsby
and hmm that's all i can think of for now, but i'd like to read the anatomy
of love.
ok
GO GET THIS BOOK. $5 AT BORDERS BABY ;)

[MMouse]: padded cells and books

2000-07-02 Thread zero1259

oh.
same on this side. i can't think of any band that I would prefer to listen to on
a regular basis more than the mouse.
it's kind of funny, but when I think of a fav. band i always run this scenario
through my head: if i were locked in a padded cell for the rest of my life and
had to decide on one band to listen to who would it be?
every time since "96" it's been modest mouse.

on another note, any Carlos Castenedos fans here?

nononono, I think you misunderstood me.I meant there's no way I like sy
 better than mouse. That's all.

gobs of people like sonic youth better if only because they haven't heard
 death
cab yet, even so I'm sure sonic youth would be favored by the majority
 because
they have so many fans. Me personaly i'm not sure who I like better, I do
listen to death cab a whole lot more than I do sonic youth so maybe I
 like them
   better.

Are you saying what I think you're saying? Is there actually someone
 out
there who likes sy better? Not that it wouldn't be completely fine
 with me
-- it would be -- I just didn't think it possible.

It would be better to actually debate the mouse and Sonic Youth than
Death Cab, there isn't really anything sonic about Death Cab in my
  opinion.

  but that's me.

  Think of it this way:
Say you can go see both of their shows, but you have to choose which
 to
  go to
first. Who will give a better encore? That is, if they will even
 do
  one.
So, you chose the one to go to that you want to see an encore of and
  leave
the other one early. And you pick that one b/c encores are usually
  awesome.
So, since you picked that one because of a good encore, maybe that
 means
  that
you like them better; so go to that one.
That made a lot of sense in my mind, but it looks kind of jumbled
 here,
  sorry.

[MMouse]: two things...

2000-07-02 Thread Daniel Robertson Reynolds

1) I'm reading "Conversations With Wilder", by Cameron Crowe, right now.
Anybody who's really interested in film should check it out, though it is
kind of pricy ($35). Billy Wilder is/was _it_.

2) I'm going to be in swinging london/luxembourg/gay paree, etc. Later
this summer and I wanted to know where I could find all the k-rad indie
rock shit, and also where I might want to look to find "Tintin in the
Congo" and, if there's a miracle, "Tintin in the Land of the Soviets".

first off i just joined the list and would like to tell you a little about
myself.
i'm a big fan of music in general. i love bands such as royal trux, sonic
youth, fugazi, firehose, melvins, the who, lynyrd skynyrd, etc...(and of
course modest mouse).i work in a music chain and get to listen to what ever i
want when ever i want. most of my friends are in bands and i love seeing
live shows and try to support local and touring bands.
1.why do you like modest mouse?
2.where does everyone live?
3.how old are you?
4.are you male or female?
just a few questions to find out what other kind of modest mouse people exist
out there.thank you, joe

Re: [MMouse]: questions

2000-07-02 Thread Spazedog00

sonicskyn asked these questions and i thought they were pretty good ones so
here are my answers :
1.why do you like modest mouse?

first of all the lyrics get me everytime and on top of those amazing words i
cant even describe effectively how i felt the first time i heard mouse but
ill try ,it was teeth like gods shoeshine and i was at track practice and i
had this tape my friend gave me and when the song came back in after it kind
of stopped it actually moved my feet faster and faster until all i heard was
this mixture of amazing music and rushing wind...you can add it up and give a
shit ...and its all all wrong...ahhh

2.where does everyone live?levittown ,long island ,NY

3.how old are you?19

4.are you male or female?male

oh..what the hell...why not...

1.why do you like modest mouse?

cause it took me so long to figure out what was so good about them...then
one day..the light came on..and good lord..look out...i think it's the fact
that they go from completely off the wall to completely sugary sweet in a
split secondplus the lyrics are downright ingenius...

2.where does everyone live?

dallas, texas..

3.how old are you?

recently 24..

4.are you male or female?

Re: [MMouse]: questions

2000-07-02 Thread Rachel White

I can't put into words what I want to say, but here it goes.
1.why do you like modest mouse?
First, the lyrics are just amazingIsaac's up there with Bob Dylan in my
book. 0Enough said there.
The lyrics are what got me obsessed with hearing more and more Mouse, but
the music is what go me hooked. They're all incredible musicians and can
make the simplest, slowest notes sound sooo good.and the way the music
goes from slow, and then builds up to this crazy, orgasmic explosion (yes,
that's what I said) -- music just doesn't get any better. All their
different styles of music on the different albums and all their
experimentation with sound just sound so right. I could write a thesis on
this but I'll spare ya'll since it probably only makes sense to me.
  2.where does everyone live?
Carmel Valley, CA
  3.how old are you?
23
  4.are you male or female?
female
