[MMouse]: who does radio here?
hiya folks, just wondering who here is involved in radio? there are loads of australian bands at the moment (mostly sydney bands, all good people) who are interested in sending stuff across to folks who have shows on college/community radio or work at stations in a programming capacity. and since they have all come to me at some stage to enquire who to send it to (me being one to share what little knowledge i have!), i thought i might just ask you guys directly and maintain some sort of transpacific cross cultural media database for future reference. sooo... if you're interested in getting some quality aussie stuff to play, drop me a line with your deets and what kinda sounds u like, and we'll get rokkin. on the flipside, if you are a lil label or band from o.s wanting some free exposure in oz, drop me a line and i'll see what i can do (play u on my shows, give u plugs on websites, pass on your deets to more appropriate ppl) cheers leigh ps. apologies for the cross posting! I got Very Emergency a real shitty point in my life, and listening to it always cheered me up. I can still listen to it without bringing back any of those bad memories. I kinda think that says something about a band. and someone mentioned Vermont, right? I like them too. .mer.

Re: [MMouse]: Promise Ring
Personally I think Promise Ring are boring as hell..I like their album 30 Degrees ok...but outside of that...no thanks...That shits straight outta the emo-recipe book. And live?? I've seen them live twice, why I went back for a second dose I'll never know..persoanlly I'd rather see you spend your money on At the Drive-In, Botch, or Small Brown Bike. PS. Album of the Year for 2000?? It's locked up...ATDI's "Relationship of Command" this is the real deal and the best damn album I've heard in a long time..highly anticipated and it doesn't let you down...oh yeah.. -- Tour de Force, Defacto, Ayuchuco! -- chris

Anyone here going to see the free at the drive-in show in boston on friday? I'm just curious...
[MMouse]: Promise Ring
in my humble opinion, 'nothing feels good' is promise ring's best album. there's so much going on in it, even though it may sound repetitive...they use a lot of different tunings, textures, instruments and ideas on it. i personally think it's incredible how it mixes meloncholy and upbeat feelings. but that's just me. their first full length, '30 degrees everywhere', is good as well. it's a little more raw, the vocals are a little muddier, and it's not neccisarily as catchy as nothing feels good. the louder moments are louder and the somber moments are quieter. this one has my favorite lyrcis though. abstract but at the same time make total sense. there's an early singles compilation called 'the horse latitudes', which is like the 30 degrees stuff, and just as good. the most recent promise ring stuff, the last 2 eps and 'very emergency' are way more pop (fountians of wayne-ish), but just as good in a different way. good listening for happy times. i guess you could say that if that others albums deal with the awkwardness of being young and in love and awkward, the newest stuff is telling you it's all going to be alright. on a side note...if anyone already really digs the promise ring, davy and dan have a side band called Vermont. it's low key, mellow, mostly accoustic and has all the same cool lyrical stuff as the older promise ring. kind of a cross between american football and red house painters. check it out. my two cents...i love the promise ring. they put on a very fun show. brian

> So my questions: is this album a good indication of their stuff? Is there > better Promise Ring albums out there? What am I missing about this band? you are missing the fact that promise ring rules your shit like a dominatrix with an enema kit. Theres the Very Emergancy album which alot of people really hated because "Promise Ring made a power pop album" but its got more hooks than than my grandpa's tackle box, and i'll you what my grandpa's tackle box doesnt make me wanna do the hustle. micheal D. david K. best looking boys go all the way the deep south of dusty

[MMouse]: Promise Ring
ok, so i am totally in love with the promise ring... it's like shit free pop... them and ultimate fakebook are the only bands that make me think that i am THE most punk rock dancer than ever lived... davey von bohlen is just about the cutest thing ever with a lisp (sorry dr. brockter). in the past 6 months he's had to deal with a benign brain tumor... poor little guy... good promise ring things include: **best looking boys/american girls... american girls isn't that good, but best looking boys is just about my favourite song ever... good for singing in the shower or by yourself... best looking boys go all the way... **very emergency... it's their last full length release. so many songs are danceable and every single last one of them is singable... maybe it's just because of the memoriest hat i associate with this album, but it just makes me feel all warm and fluffy inside. **electric pink... make me a mixed tape... if you make anyone a mixed tape, you have to put this first... maybe i'm just biased, but i don't give a fuck... i love you promise ring... love and tight pants on bald guys, leighster
Re: [MMouse]: Promise Ring
Very interesting question to ask Well I like Promise Ring a bit and have their album "30 degrees everywhere", and have heard "Nothing Feels Good" a few times, and liked them both. It's true, a lot of their stuff can be considered repetitive but it sounds pretty good to me. The lead singer/guitarist was in a band before Promise Ring called Capn' jazz, a very excellent band indeed. The vocals can be a bit much at times but I recommend checking them out. I think, when taking into consideration that Promise Ring are often clumped into the Emo category, they sound a bit more unique than many of the other bands they are put with. .bagel.
[MMouse]: Promise Ring
So what's the deal with the Promise Ring? I've heard more about them than any other indie band in the last couple of years (excluding ones I already knew of course). I bought "Nothing Feels Good" awhile ago, but I only really like a few songsNothing Feels Good, B Is For Bethlehem, Forget Me, maybe one or two more. The rest of it sounds really repetitive and straightforward to me. So my questions: is this album a good indication of their stuff? Is there better Promise Ring albums out there? What am I missing about this band? Any comments would be greatly appreciated, positive or negative.
[MMouse]: RE: Stuff it shorty
Monday.. is not a fun day... and tuesday... another bluesday... wednesday it's getting better thursday doesn't matter and friday... is the last day... And then it W-EE-K-E-N-D it's WEEKEND!! Thought I would cheer everyone up with some Arling and Cameron. I felt out of touch with 'The List' so I thought I would post something, even if it was devoid of any relevent content. I was initially against posting bands I like, because it leads to lots of 'yeah, i like them' 'me too' sort of stuff, but with this list I've caught on to a lot of great things that I now like so I will share... When in CA my friends sister said Modest Mouse reminder her of Polvo, so I got some and sure enough, it sort of does at times, the drums and guitars at least. Find Exploded Drawings. Can't get enough Blonde Redhead, esp. them doing Sergei Gainsborough music, and if you don't dig him, you should, if I could spell his name right. Speaking of french guys, anyone have the pavement bootleg where Steve is trying his best to converse with the European audience and he says, "Le Sport Coitiff!" or whatever the cheesy tennis gear is called. And then I can't get enough of the genious of Dismemberment Plans, "Doin the Standing Still". "They weren't moving to the new dance called the standing still" -- ooohh oooh wwah!!! Murder City Devils.. Swingin' in the breeze.. dripping something on the ground.. he was a good man! He was a young man! It should have been me.. it should have been you... a victim of the PRESS... GANG !! LES SAVY FAV - CUT IT OUT. If I keep listening to this it may become song of the year. Sam Prekop/Sea and Cake, I'm skinny deeping in a sea of sea and cake and sam and trying to figure out what's the best of what he has but it's all pretty darn good esp. for summer, The Kiss stands out as does the last song on side A of the SP solo record, I don't know the title. And last, but not least Kid Koala.. some guys said hey put Kid Koala on your shoutcast so I did and I thank him for it, may not be your thing, but he's the only guy close to DJ shadow who can make songs with samples but not use electronic noise like e e bleep bloop. Still have a steady stream of mouse, mostly fruit that and moon and, jfkdls;a. And to that guy who made the big complaint about pc people or whatever, I don't know what you are talking about. I haven't ever visited any web site about Indian people, the closest things was that Turkish page with that guy that said, "I want to kiss you!" but that turned out to be a clever hoax I think.
