[MMouse]: Best Live Mouse Experience

2000-03-08 Thread A. Chapman

I drove all the way to Pullman from Seattle in 97 (?) to see Built to
Spill, Modest Mouse and 764-Hero. Modest Mouse's van broke down and were
not going to make it so BTS went on second. This was just before
"Perfect from now on" came out and they played mostly songs from the
newest one which was really cool. At the end of the BTS show Dug got
really excited when he heard Modest Mouse had just arrived. They played
after BTS and it was great. After the show Doug was actually standing
outside the venue thanking people for coming! My best rock experience
probably. My second best would be tie between almost all of the unwound
shows I have seen.

Most people are way off base when they say a band is selling out. But I
think it would be a fun contest to come up with a list of the most
sell-out bands of all time. My vote would have to go for Metallica. I
mean
they were a great coked out metal band, at the fore front of that genre,
and then out of no where, they become ALTERNATIVE. Yuck. The Get Up Kids
are fun and all but I wouldn't say they are sell-outs. There music has
never changed much, maybe gotten tighter. I like their music but that
video is aweful.

You can pre-order the new RST 7" from Suicide Squeeze Records on their
website. It has a John Coltrane cover and a remix of North to Next Exit.
Pretty good stuff.

Nicole Johnson is in no way related to Calvin. She goes to UW. Think
about how common the name Johnson is.

What do people know about the MagicMagicians? I saw that they are playing
a benefit show for COCA :(conter on contemporary art where my main squeeze
works!). They are listed as a John Atkins side project but I know nothing
of it.

Also at Milky World, an art gallery in Belltown, is an exhibet using the
nickelodeon camara as art. Jeremiah Green has stuff up at the show and it
should be for sale. Does any one know about his art work. He always d0es
such a great job with the Red Stars Theory stuff and he has mad style!

Ugly Cassanova is going to have a 7" out on Western Vinyl as part of a
portrait series where the artist writes two songs from the point of a
person in a portrait. Other notables in the series are Will Oldham and
Songs:Ohia.

Someone inquired awhile back about Three Second Kiss. They have an EP out
on Slowdime, I've only been able to find it on Insound. It rawks!!!

[MMouse]: Label Web Pages

1999-07-28 Thread A. Chapman

I was curious as to every one's favorite record label webpage according to
content and design. It seems you can always find good info on Suicide
Squeeze, Doghouse, Tree, and Temporary Residence Limited but others seem
almost useless. What do the rest of you modest mouse listeners feel?

Dont come to the northwest for scenster free shows. They only get worse
around here, I would bet worse than any where else. Tons of scenesters
who don't realize they are just directionless groupies. Rhys, you can get
the new Get Up Kids 7" at Ebay.com for a little over $50.

[MMouse]: BTS show

1999-02-02 Thread B. Chapman

One of the opening bands is The Delusions, with Tim Roth also playing
guitar with BTS. I haven't heard anything about MM playing.

Built to Spill is playing here in Seattle on March 12th and the ad says
"Built to Spill with special guests."

The last time they made that claim, Modest Mouse was the special guest.
Does
any one know if MM is playing with Built to Spill on March 12th?
