All you emo saps are bitchin about how much you hate sonic youth (when you obviously havent passed much thought through it, or even heard the music already) and how you can hold shit like Jets To Brazil and the Promise Ring in such high regard?!! LAME!! Just start looking at and hearing Sonic Youth from the very beginning until now. Like everyband they have their slumps, but they come out of them better than ever. When i heard about their shit getting stolen i was especially angry. I cant even fathom how impossible it would be to recreate such a custom sound, to start over virtually from scratch. Anybody out there in the NYC/NJ/ area? well the next couple of weeks sound very promising..this sunday the 10th the Crabs, Sarah Douger, and Kicking Giant are playing at maxwells in hoboken! and towards the end of the month, the make up is having a record release party for their new album "Save Yourself" at Life on Bleeker St on weds the 27th with Ian and Amelia (marine research) DJing. The night after is a big show too!! Mirah, The Microphones, Calvin Johnson, The Rondelles, and Marine Research at Bowery Ballroom!!! and then of course The Olivia Tremor Control is playing on the 30th and 31st(Halloween!!!) at the knitting factory!! (Sun Ra Arkestra is playing there too on the 29th) So no one is allowed to complain about being bored! As for the mouse playing in Boston, they have. I saw them at the Middle East with the Wicked Farleys and 764-Hero a few years ago (just before Lonesome came out). I too was at the Amherst show! that was an alright show, even though i wasnt too into Califone at the time. well there you go! -c. [MMouse]: Elephant 6 and such
The Elephant 6 Collective/Recording company has been putting out a lot of really good stuff for a fair amount of time. Most of the bands share a common aestetic (goddamn spellin) and are obviously inspired by more classic elements of music. All of them are very talented individuals, namely Julian of Neutral Milk Hotel of course, Robert of The Apples In Stereo and who also pretty much created Elephant six, and just about every member of the Olivia Tremor Control, a band that constantly bewilders me. i dont know if i could advise you on the album that would really define what Elepahnt 6 is but i could help. Well for starters, get anything by OTC that you can...Dusk At Cubist castle is an amazing full length album by them and will always be regarded as a classic, by me anyways..Black Foliage, their newest full length is also very good, and much more complex. they have several other smaller releases out, most of which i dont have yet, but there is one without a name that i do ! ! have. the cover is simply black with a rectangle picture of a crown over mountains in the center. There are no real songs, but rather a series of collages in sound that result in the most atmospheric, blissfull album i have ever had the privelege to hear. Of Montreal is also a very good, talented band. Their album "The Gay Parade" is also very very good. if you should ever have the chance to listen to it check out a track called "Nickee Coco and The Invisible Tree"...shit...its 4am...i got class tomorrow...if you have anymore questions please e mail me privately, cause i wouldnt imagine that too many people have a tolerance to my ramblings anymore...even though this is my third post HAHAHAHAHAHABTW the guy thats been recording with Modest Mouse on their new album and their recent shows is Ben. Okay folks, This is only the second time that i have ever posted on this most strange list. i subscribed because i thought it was for people looking for rare mickie and minnie mouse collectables but i have been horribly mistaken. i am shocked and appalled by what kids are listening to these days. WHATEVER THE FUCK HAPPEND TO PETER FRAMPTON?!! Oh well, the kids today...but i am frantically bored and i refuse to leave my west village apartment until i am scheduled to pick up my brand new pet chicken so i will spread the gospel of me, Chuck. well not really a "gospel" persay but just really what i know or think. FREEDOM, SLACK, AND LOVE KIDS, THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT. All too often i see people putting each other down because one or two of you like an emo band that all the rest of you hate. well, fuck emo. its all bullshit anyways so dont worry about it. Yes i enjoy the sounds which emit from the Modest Mouse but in no way do i find them to have anything in common with the same ol soun! ! ds which constantly squeeze through the amps of these promise ring people and these joan of arc people. but of brats from PA if you ask me. Go ahead, correct me, maybe they arent from PA, watch me give a shit too. HAHAHAHA. Im tellin you kids, love each other no matter what you listen to. cause this whole independent thing isnt about what you listen to, its about who YOU are. Don't let it become a scene, cause that will be its downfall. i know many of you kids will bitch and moan that im a hypocrite cause i just dissed "emo" but thats okay. at least you know my point of view. and i sure as hell know yrs from reading yr posts since november 1998 HAHHAHAHAHAHAHA. Dont just dig the NW scene, or the NYC scene. Dont limit yrself. listen to all sorts of shit. always be interested in whats going on. if you live in a small town that doesnt have much of a scene, start one. get something going. dont say its too hard cause all the people in yr town are rednecks, just fucking do it. th! ! ere was somebody round these here parts that said "start a band, start a zine, set something on fire" and he or she was on the fucking tip. dont wait around for it to happen, just start it yrself. stop whining, take responsibility.
