'the moon & antarctica' is the name of the new album from modest
mouse, and if the sleeve is half as great as the music (translation :
we haven't seen the artwork yet), you'll need new eyeballs.
depending on the arrival of said artwork, this album could be out as
early as june 2000."

i'm going to be there; proudly getting way too into rainer maria and
atom and his package and spending way too much money on
music. maybe i'll put a picture up on my webpage before i go so
people can come and find me and say 'hey, i've been to your

i'm currently addicted to 'the old master painter' and 'i just wasn't
made for these times' by the beach boys. a friend of mine gave me
his copy of "pet sounds" as an early birthday gift, and i downloaded
"smile" and burned it to cd recently. i still believe that the early
beach boys stuff was horrible, but those two albums are worth the
credit that they get. an example of this is brian wilson's adaptation
of 'you are my sunshine', which is part of 'the old master painter':

you were my sunshine, my only sunshine.
you made me happy when skies were blue.
you'll never know, dear, how much i loved you.
how could you take my sunshine away?

not exactly happy, but it fits the mood that i've been in recently...

as for everyone that brought up pinback recently, what i've heard by
them is great. i think i like rob crow's solo acoustic stuff more
though. and some of the heavy vegetable stuff is better, too...
which reminds me: check out mp3it.com. it's a legit site that
features stuff by all of rob crow's various projects (get the
unreleased cassette box set. now.) and various other bands that
can be related to him in some way or another. you won't be sorry.

actually, from what i understand, '(in heaven) lady in the radiator
song' is actually from the movie 'eraserhead'. however, living in the
middle of nowhere, i haven't had the luck of finding 'eraserhead' yet..

i do know that the pixies at the bbc cd gives songwriting credits for
'(in heaven)' to p. ivers and david lynch, so...

that also reminds me of the fact that the one decent local music
store stopped carrying 'liquid sky' without letting me know. that
makes me kinda angry, since i got compelled to rent what could
possibly be the worst movie ever made; yet, they didn't have 'liquid
sky' anymore.. oh well.

i'm thinking it has to do with the fact that 'buliding nothing' was
originally supposed to get released around the end of 1999... but
that's just a guess.

i'm a little disappointed -- it's a great cd and a great collection of

first off, thanks to everyone who suggested bright eyes. i myself
find them quite interesting and will probably pick up a cd by them

poppy-ish music with vocals that brought carla from the geraldine

even though i'm responding to this message since it's the first

pavement are only second to the dead milkmen in my mind, so it's

in a way, i'd be happy if the rumours were true if they were planning
on staying in the vein of _terror_twilight_. for some unknown reason
that album didn't click with me. i'm not sure if it was because of
the high quality production, the happy sound that runs through it or
the fact that it's different and i'm one of those people who doesn't
accept change in certain things very well, but i was *VERY*
disappointed when it was released.

i've never seen modest mouse live due to the fact that they wanted

i agree with the originator as well -- 'think' is one of the most
depressing songs i can think of.

pretty much everything off of 'electr-o-pura' by yo la tengo is very
lovelorn and depressing as well in my opinion. not that it isn't a
great album, but it's one of those things that can make me VERY
depressed if the setting is right. (and it usually is...)

and any bill stevenson written descendents or ALL song is usually
very lovelorn and sad, but not in the same vein of other music that'll
probably get mentioned on this list. ('scary sad' comes to mind
immediatly, along with 'she's my ex' and 'cleen sheets' and many
others...)

the acoustic silkworm ep ('the marco collins sessions') is also very
sad/depressing/lovelorn in my opinion. that may be more based on
the fact that the lyrics remind me of certain people that i know.

well, he used to run the cool modest mouse live mp3 site, so he's
my hero for that. (even though i no longer have any of that live stuff due to a computer crash..) and he also posted the japanese tour ep twice, which made me very happy.

[MMouse]: followings/favourite lyrics

also in the upper peninsula of michigan, surprisingly enough. there
seems to be a strange following of the band up here, more or less
all of the college radio followers in the area. the local sam goody
carries cds by them even, proving that there's at least a little bit of
a demand.

yet, surprisingly enough, when i went to green bay, wisconsin
recently to search for music i couldn't find a single mm release
anywhere... go figure.

i'd have to say that i think they have a large following, but not a very
large following -- as in, large for most independent label bands, but
not as large as pavement for example.

well, to start it off, my current four favourite modest mouse songs
are these: other peoples lives, ohio, it always rains on a picnic and
teeth like god's shoeshine. and medication. and novocain stain.
my six favourite songs are, as follows, ... =)

as for quotes, only a few stand out in my mind as being
mindblowing, just because of the fact that i feel all of issac's lyrics
are amazing. but, here's a few anyways...

'as long as your gone / i can't apologize / for all the things that i
haven't said and done' -- life of arctic sounds

'this is the part of me that thinks outer space is all dead / this is
the part of me that wishes it was with it' and 'you can't make dirt
clean so we'll just lemon-scent it' -- medication

'i hear voices insinuating / feed me lyrics to this song that i am
sayin' / sunlight, 7:20pm, early september / standing, looking at a
photograph that you do not remember / being taken you look out of
breath and me like i am fakin' / as a matter of fact i don't recall this
photo being taken / you don't even actually exist, so i just started
shaking...' -- exit does not exist

'i got up, remembering to thank him / better things to do so i'll start
drinking' -- all night diner

'everyone's life ends but no one ever completes it' -- dark center of
the universe

'other people's lives seem more intersting 'cause they aint mine' -
other peoples lives

and previously mentioned quotes from talking shit, polar opposites,
and bankrupt on selling.

meanings? good question... a lot of those quotes (and the songs
they're from) just kinda spark off some sort of feeling in my mind,
like i'm not as alone in this world as i like to pretend i am. or,
sometimes, they make me realize that i'm more alone than i could
ever know. and a few are related to specific people and situations
as well.

[MMouse]: rape / shirts

that's a good point. after re-reading, i did realize that i kinda made
it sound like i was saying that -- more or less all i was trying to say
though is don't believe everything you read. be it in a magazine,
online or anything. if it did happen, it sucks and i feel immensly
sorry for the girl that it happened to. however, until i see proof that
is more concrete than one person's word on an anonymous internet
bulliten board, i'm not going to get worried.

hmm... welp, i still think someone important would've jumped on
this situation if it actually has happened. but, that's my opinion --
however, i see the point yr. making above and agree with it as well,
and can see how it'd get ignored / pushed under the carpet.

(clap, clap, clap) i agree 100%.

on a totally different (and MUCH lighter) note, exactly how many
different modest mouse shirts exist out there? just curious; i'm
planning on ordering the famed ugly orange elephant shirt from up,
but i wanted to know if there's other ones around as well..

also, since one or more of you folk out there may be able to direct
me, does anyone know where i could possibly find a pixies or frank
black shirt? i've been searching desperatly for many a month with
no luck at all, so any help would be appreciated...

[MMouse]: issac rape charge...

1999-02-24 Thread b. koski

> someone has more information or wants to discuss it...i have no opinion
> yet as to if this is true or not but i'm really hoping it isn't becos

here's the url to the thread she was refering to when mentioning
punkrock.net later in her email --

http://messages.punkrock.net/?action=listthread&topic=001415-
00-022499-19.msg&showdays=2

in all honesty, i believe in what the people on the above message
board are saying -- don't believe everything you read on the
internet. this rape charge may be true, and if it is i can honestly
say that issac is a pig and that the stuff i've heard about him being
evil is true; but if this happened and the girl brought it to the police
why hasn't anyone important jumped on it yet? seriously, spin
magazine and rolling stone and sonicnet and all of those other fun
magazines seem to be drooling over the mouse, so don't you think
you'd hear something about the whole horrible situation from them?

i rest my case.. hopefully i'm right.

and, on other notes, this is my first post. hello. i'm brad, a high
school student who listens to lots of what some folk call the 'indie
rock' and some old school punk as well. i dig lots of bands, most
of which i won't go on about here but i'll gladly ramble on about if
you email me. my webpage is going to be down until the middle of
march (or until i move it back to http://www.portup.com/~koskib),
so.. i hope to enjoy the list as much as i've enjoyed others...
