[MMouse]: Guilty Pleasures

1999-05-14 Thread Taylor Antrim

My guiltiest pleasure at the moment: The
Connells.  I used to dig them when I was in 8th, 9th grade and recently
dragged out the albums and jesus they are good.  That's the worse thing I
can think of right now (though I do groove on Prince from time to time, but I
just don't consider that guilty).  Besides actually liking that Offspring
song, and oh yeah, I LOVED  the cranberries Zombie (only that song though)
I am mostly guiltless.

And right on to the Mouse fan dancing with the
girl in the expensive house.  Lonesome Crowded finds its way into my car
from time to time and I go nuts rediscovering what I always knew: better than
anything else, #1.

And, ok, no more bedhead but are there any
spinoff projects, solo things coming.  Who knows.

Now here's something that is REALLY embarrassing to be admitting to. I had a
huge crush on Pee Wee growing up. He was the reason I fell in love with
Rivers Cuomo and Graham Coxon and a few other "geeks" In fact, I think I owe
who I am today to Pee Wee.

[MMouse]: guilty pleasures

1999-05-10 Thread James

I'm not if these count as guilty pleasures, but I like the Beastie Boys and
I love the Smiths (always have). I consider them guilty pleasures mostly
because I feel guilty for listening to them, so I guess they do count. I
think there's a bit of Morrissey in us all. hahahahaha

By the way, Pee Wee's Playhouse was cool, but that damned chair gave me the
creeps. I wouldn't sit on her overstuffed lap for anything in the world.

ok, i'm not familiar w/ anything by britney spears, but there's a rumor
going around that she'll be attending my school (george washington in dc) in
the fall. i haven't seen any concrete evidence, so i dont know if this is
official or not...just thought you might be interested since you're a closet
fan.

wait, what about rob bass- it takes two?

that song was awesome. did anyone else used to go to the skating rink on
friday nights? this song was the "jam" back then when shuffling was the
cool thing. and i was good at skating backwards.
but then again, that was also when i shaved my head and had NKOTB shaved in
the back. those were the days that people will never let me live down.
i can't believe i am admitting to this.

now everyone has mentioned cheese 80's bands. now these are all good. but my
guilty pleasure would have to be britney spear's "baby one more time". you
cant beat that song. its so rad. you cant help but love it! and also those
boy bands-- yes, they may suck. but the songs end up in my head...and i cant
help but enjoy them a little bitbut i guess this is mostly because i am
in high school and i am constantly surrounded by girls who obsess over these
people in the boy bands. (absolutely ridiculous!). they dont know what good
music is...ah, well.

Being on this list, I guess Kraftwerk could count as a guilty pleasure. I
don't know if anyone else likes them, but I don't feel guilty at all. Except
when I listen to Geiger Counter. Then I just feel dirty.

I'm never gonna dance again
Guilty feet ain't got no rhythm
Though it's easy to pretend, I know you're not a fool
Shoulda known (should known better) than to cheat a friend
The wasted chance that I feel given
So I'm never gonna dance again, the way I danced with you...
whoa oh...
Whoa...

My biggest guilty pleasure would be "I Know What Boys Like" by the
Waitresses, and most Prince stuff. Guilty because I don't listen to it
often around anyone else. And The Hooters, Nervous Night, that whole album.
  Guilty as sin.

[MMouse]: Guilty Pleasures

1999-05-09 Thread MapleDaisy

I find it so wonderful that we are all coming out of the cheesy closet and
proclaiming our true roots in music. In the eighties you would never hear me
admit that I had Captain and Tenille's Greatest Hits on cassette, as I was
blaring "Love will keep us together" while delivering pizzas in Las Vegas.
Steely Dan's Decade CD is in heavy rotation in our home any time that it
rains. Hall & Oates "Sarah Smile" is one of the best. Adam & the Ants is
required for housecleaning. "Eyes of a Stranger" by the Payolas STILL turns
me on.
Now that I'm older, I can accept that I love these songs without worry.
A tradition happens every Christmas eve at my uncle's house. He breaks out
the albums, we move the furniture, and dance. Albums include Barry Manilow,
Captain & Tenille, the Grease soundtrack, and Tom Jones. One of my favorite
visions is my whole family boogeying to "Kiss" by Tom Jones. Including
Grandpa.
Another fantastic memory is my friend Greg in high school, with purple hair,
singing along to all of the words to "Muskrat Love".
Can you imagine what our children will be embarassed to admit that they
listened to? Time will only tell.
