Re: [MMouse]: High fidelity
Let me preface this email by saying "I completely HATED the book "High Fidelity" and only finished it becauseI had heard so many good things, I kept HOPING it would at some point become mediocre at least. Unfortunately, it did not." > > Is high fidelity based on the book or is it something else? yes, John Cusack himslef translated Nick Hornby's book. > And if it is how true to the book is it because the book is > incredibibible. It is very true to the book. Except that it takes place in Chicage. And it is somewhat cute, but that's entirely due to the physical appearance of John Cusack. And I didn't comletely hate this version. But I didn't really think it was good, either. but just an opinion, Karina

It's from a Velvet Underground song off the Loaded album (after John Cale left). Another song from the album was played during the movie too (with the lyrics something like "who loves the sun/who cares if it makes plants grow/who cares what it does since you broke my heart"). It's just the lyrics Doug from BTS steals...the melody isn't that similar. Brent =-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=--=-= ...what noisy cats are we... - M. Re: [MMouse]: high fidelity
god damn. ok, I have already seen this movie twice. I'm not sure if it is because High Fidelity is my favorite book, but this is one of my favorite all time movies. it might also be because of all of the music references (especially indie stuff) and the fact that john cusack basically plays an older version of lloyd dobler from say anything, my all time favorite movie. So anyway, its brilliant. the soundtrack is also brilliant. thanks to a friend who does promotion for dreamworks, i got it a few weeks ago. Russ, the song is Oh Sweet Nothing by the Velvet Underground. It's on the soundtrack, as is the beta band and smog, both of which were hand picked by john cusack. god damn, can the man get any better? go see this movie. ..mer..
Re: [MMouse]: high fidelity
yeah i was just gonna post about the indie rock cred. the movie had goin for it. shipping news posters and a funny ass part where cusack sells 3 copies of beta band in a minute. yeah and i nearly wet myself when jack black flips on the guy for having belle and sebastion playing. -- Dustin "keep your lamp light trimmed and burning" -- >From: Russ Sweetser <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: [MMouse]: high fidelity >Date: Sat, Apr 1, 2000, 12:26 AM > > so i just saw high fidelity and its really quite touching or at least i > thought. i could relate to john cusacks sorry rampant relationship > terror. > > but anyways, two things. there is INDIE all OVER THIS MOVIE. they even > play something off the new belle and sebastian? or at least i never > heard it. i didnt dig boy with the arab strap too much so it might have > been something off that. but yeah. and theres this swt ladybug > transistor/of montreal poster from schubas in chicago thats on screen > like 35% of the movie. > > the other thing is theres what sounds like "nowhere nothing fuckup" > being covered by who knows what. is nowhere nothing fuckup a cover? or > did someone cover it for this movie? or did dug steal the say a word for > karen brown thing from somehwere? i totally blanked out on the dialogue > at this point in the movie because i was straining to hear the song. of > course they stopped it before the "nowhere nothing fuck up" part should > happen. clue me in. > > russ >

so i just saw high fidelity and its really quite touching or at least i thought. i could relate to john cusacks sorry rampant relationship terror. but anyways, two things. there is INDIE all OVER THIS MOVIE. they even play something off the new belle and sebastian? or at least i never heard it. i didnt dig boy with the arab strap too much so it might have been something off that. but yeah. and theres this swt ladybug transistor/of montreal poster from schubas in chicago thats on screen like 35% of the movie. the other thing is theres what sounds like "nowhere nothing fuckup" being covered by who knows what. is nowhere nothing fuckup a cover? or did someone cover it for this movie? or did dug steal the say a word for karen brown thing from somehwere? i totally blanked out on the dialogue at this point in the movie because i was straining to hear the song. of course they stopped it before the "nowhere nothing fuck up" part should happen. clue me in. russ
