Module Submissions - Gentle Poking
A couple of months ago (July 24th), I submitted namespace requests for Net::OSCAR and Parse::ABNF. Haven't heard anything since. Did they get lost in the shuffle or are you folks just a bit backlogged? In the thread "Request Tracker", Skud said it takes up to a week and to give a gentle poking if you haven't heard anything by then. -- Matthew Sachs, the original nonstandard deviant [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.zevils.com/ GPG key: 0x600A0342 PGP key: 0x93EA1151

What's the address for submission, then, for the CPAN scripts repository, the half-forgotten step-child of CPAN? http://www.cpan.org/scripts/index.html , for example, lists several different scripts, organised by category, which lie in different authors' directories, so they should be findable as long as someone categorises them in the correct scripts category. If it's not [EMAIL PROTECTED] who does that, who then? Kurt Starsinic, whose email address is at the top of the page, perhaps? Ah, hold on -- there are instructions at http://www.cpan.org/scripts/submitting.html , which imply that simply uploading a properly formatted script (not compressed or tarred or anything) automatically makes it available, and that [EMAIL PROTECTED] is available for discussion (e.g. for creation of new categories); this appears to be a real mailing list that one can subscribe to. module namespace question
I've written some perl code to interface to a Davis Vantage Pro weather station. I'd like to repackage it as a CPAN module with a proposed namespace of: Device::VantagePro The methods in this module will Receive data from the datalogger (EEPROM device that stores data from the weather station until it is ready to be offloaded to the computer) Receive live data directly from the weather station Set the weather station's clock Set and clear alarms Turn the backlighting on and off (what the heck, it's easy) Erik Larsen [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I strongly suggest packaging them as modules so they'll be more useful to a wider variety of people. Also, we don't maintain listings of scripts. While you can stick it in your CPAN author directory, nobody will ever find it there, and what's the point? I'd suggest naming them something like File::Similar and Mail::Filter::MultiClient. Before you submit this to CPAN, I think you should subscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and talk to the folks over there. I know of *at least* three modules that aim to do what you've described, and we're trying to amalgamate some of them rather than proliferate more. The Date:: namespace is already confusing enough without umpteen nearly-identical modules in there. So perhaps you could contribute your coding efforts to an existing module. Re: Registration for CPAN
Notify::* works. So the three modules would be: Notify::Pool, Notify::Notice, and Notify::Email. Module submission Date::Object
The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List: modid: Date::Object DSLIP: bdpOp description: OO wrapper that allows math operations userid: MLUKER (Matt Luker) chapterid:6 (Data_Type_Utilities) communities: mail newsgroups, CVS similar: OO-DateTime rationale: I wrote this module to solve a specific problem: iterating over dates in a for loop as if they were a mathematical quantity. In the process of solving that problem, I managed to create a pretty useful object that could be used in several other ways. It makes using dates much easier and simpler within code. You can add, subtract, compare, increment, use like a string or a number--all this while not having to worry about the tough things in dates, mainly when to wrap or reset, how to compare months from different years, etc. While much of this could be done or simulated by using seconds values, it requires a lot of conversion and checks. This set of objects does that for you and allows dates to just be treated like any other numerical quantity. I wrote this when I was bored because I didn't have internet access. So I couldn't check to see if someone had done it already or done it better. After finishing it, my internet access was up and I tried to find a better implementation in CPAN. Apparently no one else had done any similar work (to my surprise). OO-DateTime by TOBIX appears to be design work, but there doesn't appear to be anything to try or use. His module appears (from the README) to be Date::Time. I'd prefer just Date::, but I have several objects (Date and Time currently, DateTime and Timestamp in the future) and I thought it best to keep all my work in the same scoped package. Date::Object seems plain enough--an OO interface to dates. Thus the name choice. Again, I'm not trying to duplicate work and I don't want to dismiss anyone's hard work, but it appears that nothing else is done or ready to be used. While my module might have chosen some poor designs that I am unaware of, it appears to work nicely and get the job done. I'm hoping it will be useful to others as well, even if I did it in a non-optimal way. enteredby: MLUKER (Matt Luker) enteredon: Sun Sep 23 14:23:59 2001 GMT The resulting entry would be: Date:: ::Object bdpOp OO wrapper that allows math operations MLUKER Thanks for registering, The Pause Team PS: The following links are only valid for module list maintainers: Registration form with editing capabilities: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=0110_09940a40ff9e3570&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_preview=1 Immediate (one click) registration: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=0110_09940a40ff9e3570&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_insertit=1

Hi Andreas, It must have been a network problem, since it is OK now. Sorry to have troubled you. Much of New Zealand was off the air for about an hour, soon after I was having the problems.
