Re: Module submission Dancer::Plugin::Legacy
Greetings, I apologize for not being more clear. I was referring to my application to register the errantly named namespace of "Dancer::Plugin::Legacy". I am not able to Edit Module Metadata on an unapproved namespace, which means I'm afraid I can not mark it as "Can Be Deleted from database". However, I think your message does give me an idea on an action I can take. I have resubmitted the registration request, this time for the correct namespace of Dancer::Plugin::Legacy::Routing. If the original request is denied then there is no need to delete or change anything. If my correct request is approved, then an approval of just the correct namespace takes care of everything. Apologies for the confusion. I think you may be misunderstanding; I am writing on _behalf_ of Best Practical, who would like to assume maintainership. As I noted in my previous email, we maintain the repository for the module in question, in fact -- which was originally written when Ruslan was a Best Practical employee. As such, I don't see how "Best Practical responding to pull requests" is relevant. How long of a delay is the usual process? As long as version 0.03 remains an unauthorized release, any code using Email::Address::List will be vulnerable to a trivial denial of service attack. - Alex

It's basically irrelevant, except as a means to get feedback on naming. However, bdfoy[0] seems to still like approving modulelist entries and since he's an excellent trainer and author it's a net win for the community for him to look like his opinions are still relevant whether my personal belief that it's irrelevant is correct or not, so I vote for leaving things as-is until we run out of volunteers who care enough to approve them. I would, however, appreciate a de-emphasisation of the registration process that's reasonable about the benefits it purports to deliver should you do so. [0] Brian and I don't get on. Naming my distro -- please advise
Hi Nathan Thanx for reading the advice re naming modules, even if a little late! There are a wide range of modules on CPAN handling issue such as yours does, and tying them together is not the way many of us work. For instance, I already use config modules, logging modules, etc, and have a policy of not adopting a module which forces me to adopt several such things just to get the feature I want. In the short term you can simply delete CELL via the PAUSE web interface. Then, I strongly suggest you have a think about such matters before deciding what to do next. There is of course no reason you'd like my way of doing things, but just for the record my choices are: o Config::Tiny (and if that's insufficient, Config::IniFiles) Yes, there's a vast array of config modules on CPAN. No-one needs them all, but we all need a good one. o Log::Handler Correspondence will not be entered into :-). o Try::Tiny, perhaps combined with Throwable::Factory The latter is written by Toby Inkster, which is always a good sign. o Etc. Module submission App::CELL
The following module was proposed for inclusion in the Module List: modid: App::CELL DSLIP: adpOg description: Configure, Error-handle, Localize, and Log userid: SMITHFARM (Nathan Cutler) chapterid: 3 (Development_Support) communities: https://sourceforge.net/p/perl-cell/discussion/general/ similar: rationale: Configuration, error-handling, localization, and logging may seem like diverse topics. In my experience, however, they are closely interrelated. Together, they constitute "minimal basic infrastructure" for mid-sized applications. In other words, if I'm writing an application, it makes sense for it to: * have sane defaults pre-set by the application developer * have the defaults be easily overridable by the site administrator * have elegant error handling (no dying, croaking, etc.) * be object-oriented * be localizable into multiple languages in a straight-forward manner, without having to rewrite anything * log to syslog in a way that makes it easy to capture the application's log messages in a separate logfile There are lots of other things applications can be, do, and have, but in my mind, these features are fundamental. What is more, they are interrelated and it makes sense (to me) to have them together in a single, re-usable package. Originally I intended for the package to be named "CELL", but App::CELL will be just fine. I'll be happy to rename it to something else, as per your suggestion, as long as the name doesn't get too long. enteredby: SMITHFARM (Nathan Cutler) enteredon: Thu Jan 30 14:47:36 2014 UTC The resulting entry would be: App:: ::CELLadpOg Configure, Error-handle, Localize, and Log SMITHFARM Thanks for registering, -- The PAUSE PS: The following links are only valid for module list maintainers: Registration form with editing capabilities: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=05d0_50a28a3d8f327dcd&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_preview=1 Immediate (one click) registration: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?ACTION=add_mod&USERID=05d0_50a28a3d8f327dcd&SUBMIT_pause99_add_mod_insertit=1 Peek at the current permissions: https://pause.perl.org/pause/authenquery?pause99_peek_perms_by=me&pause99_peek_perms_query=App%3A%3ACELL

Heya, I'm writing to request co-maintainer status on Email::Address::List for ALEXMV and FALCONE. The current maintiner, RUZ, hasn't responded to several requests for such over the last week and a half, and a new release is necessary to close a denial-of-service vulnerability, CVE-2014-1474. The module was also originally produced while Ruslan was working for Best Practical, and the official repository for it ( https://github.com/bestpractical/email-address-list ) is still under Best Practical's namespace.
