Some very novel and interesting suggestions so far. If your needs lean to an external probe for some reason and you are more inclined to an easy out-of-the-box solution (with a bit more cost), the probes at sensorsoft.com might be of interest. The models with the built-in web server are pretty neat. Sensorsoft used to have a model-F Mon monitor posted on their web page. If not, it's pretty easy to set one up with the perl code they make available to query the probe. The posted DS daisy chain/owfs idea is pretty nifty, though.
