[Mono-list] Problem with combo boxes on mono Winforms
I have just installed mono 1.1.16.1. When running a Windows Forms application, there is a problem with the combo box. The list part of the combo box displays anywhere but under the combo box. Where it displays depends on what other controls are being displayed, and where the combo box is on the windows Form. I notice that the splitter control on mono Winforms leaves a shadow of itself when you use it to resize other controls. This happens in both Horizontal and Vertical usages of the Splitter Control. [Mono-list] Problem running Windows Forms application
I have a Win Forms application that I've been running on my Linux Box (Mandriva Linux 2006), It was running ok under Mono-1.1.15, but I installed Mono-1.1.16 and now it won't load the GUI. It looks like everything inside the window loads, the text boxes, the combo boxes etc, but the window frame and the window decorations fail to load, and I am forced to kill it. I get no error messages when I run from the command line, below is what I see $ mono /home/tracy/Development/development/bin/Debug/development.exe Mono System.Windows.Forms Assembly [$auto_build_revision$] Gtk colorscheme read The application 'unknown' lost its connection to the display :0.0; most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the application. $ It outputs this message Gtk colorscheme read and then seems to hang. Would you like me to report this as a bug? regards Tracy Barlow ___ Mono-list maillist - Mono-list@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/mono-list
[Mono-list] GTK# ComboBox
How can I make the combobox that is part of the widget set on monodevelop function in the manner it's icon implies it can function? That is a list that drops down like the combobox entry does and is a fixed height, with a vertical scroll bar when there are more entries than can be displayed. Or alternately, how can I make the combobox entry not editable? I really dislike the look and feel of the default combobox, especially the way in which the popup is displayed. regards Tracy Barlow Dodo - an Official Sponsor of the 2006 FORMULA 1 (tm) Foster's Australian Grand Prix ___ Mono-list maillist - Mono-list@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/mono-list

GTK# may be idealogically the 'right thing to do' but currently I have several hundred SWF apps that I should be able to use on linux. I would imagine that 99% of experienced .NET/Mono programmers are in the same boat. So either SWF or perhaps a conversion tool to take an SWF 'binary' and convert it? [Mono-list] Bug#: 77187
I have solved the problem. I obtained test code from http://svn.myrealbox.com/viewcvs/trunk/winforms/combobox/swf-combobox-single.cs?rev=40235view=markup and it works as expected, with the dropdown button appearing corerctly at all sizes of the combo box. The code I posted, below, still fails to corectly render the dropdown button for sizes of the combo box greater than 30px. Further investigation revealed that the Mono test code always includes a setting of the combobox DropDownStyle, while the Microsoft example code I have been using does not. If I add the following this.cbFont.DropDownStyle = ComboBoxStyle.DropDownList; to the Microsoft example code I have been using the dropdown button of the combobox is will render correctly and as expected. regards Tracy Barlow Date: Wed, 18 Jan 2006 22:10:33 +1000 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Mono-list] Bug#: 77187 To: mono-list@lists.ximian.com Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain I've tried to post to Bugzilla but I am unable to login. It's OK, I've worked out what is going on. As I uninstalled the previous version of Mono 1.1.8-2, I removed the gtk, gdk, glade, pango etc Version 2.00 files, Mono 1.1.9 has versions 1.0 and versions 2.4. [Mono-list] Capturing output from Linux Command Line programs
Dilton McGowan II diltonm at yahoo.com Tue Aug 16 19:38:50 EDT 2005 Using the code from your original post, substituting ls for wget works. standard is not always standard. IIRC, some programs output to screen memory for speed rather than through the BIOS character IO subsystem. So I have discovered, and that was what lead to my confusion. The following code using wget does, however work. You will notice that I am reading the stream from stderr. When I do this I am able to retrieve the status information that wget normally writes to the console. using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.IO; class MainClass { public static void Main(string[] args) { ProcessStartInfo psi = new ProcessStartInfo(); psi.FileName = /usr/bin/wget; // //change the pths to one of your choosing // psi.Arguments = -m -nd --directory-prefix=/home/tracy/Downloads/test --input-file=/home/tracy/Downloads/test/wgetlist; psi.RedirectStandardInput = false; psi.RedirectStandardOutput = false; psi.RedirectStandardError = true; //place the following text in a file name wgetlist //ftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/disks/2/mandrake/devel/cooker/i586/media/main/cdrdao-1.2.0-2mdk.i586.rpm // psi.UseShellExecute = false; Process process = Process.Start(psi); Console.WriteLine(Process Name: + process.ProcessName); Console.WriteLine(Process Id: + process.Id); Console.WriteLine(Process RedirectInput: + process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput); Console.WriteLine(Process RedirectOutput: + process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput); Console.WriteLine(Process RedirectError: + process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardError); Console.WriteLine(Processing); bool retn = false; while (!retn) { StreamReader sr = null; sr = process.StandardError; string content = sr.ReadLine(); Console.WriteLine(Stuff my GUI application will use: + content); retn = process.WaitForExit(1000); } Console.WriteLine(Process has exited: + retn.ToString()); process.Close(); } } ___ Mono-list maillist - Mono-list@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/mono-list

[Mono-list] Capturing output from Linux Command Line programs
Hi, Yes you can, and this has nothing to do with what I am trying to do. Please read my original post. My problem has absolutely nothing to do with capuring output from MY program. I'm trying to capture output from existing linux Command Line program like wget, mkisofs and others, so I can use that output in a GUI application. The method described should work for *any* command line application - try it. You may be surprised. TTFN Paul I doubt it, I use that method quite a bit. It however does not answer my need. It also does not explain why System.Diagnostics.Process does not seem to function as expected, and it does not give me a real time feed of the output from a Linux command line program, like wget to my GUI application. So I'm am not in the least interested in reading about one can redirect stdout using the redirect on the command line works. You can do that until the cows come home, and it still won't solve my problem. Another way to ask for help is to give a better idea of what you want to achieve in plain english, an example in another programming language can also help, and of course reading the mailing list archive, and not dissing folk for answering the question you asked rather than the question you thought you asked. If you had bothered to read the thread you would not only have seen that I asked my question in plain English, but that I also clarified it several times, for those who didn't take the trouble to read the question properly in the first place. In the second place the example you gave does not answer my question. If I had wanted that I would have done it, and I would not have needed to asked the question in the first place. I have the following code using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.IO; class MainClass { public static void Main(string[] args) { ProcessStartInfo psi = new ProcessStartInfo(wget); psi.Arguments = -m -nd --directory-prefix=/home/tracy/Downloads/test --input-file=/home/tracy/Downloads/test/wgetlist; psi.RedirectStandardOutput = true; psi.UseShellExecute = false; Process process = Process.Start(psi); bool retn = false; int i = 1; while (!retn) { Console.WriteLine(i.ToString()); retn = process.WaitForExit(10); StreamReader sr = process.StandardOutput; Console.WriteLine(#= + sr.ReadToEnd()); i++; } } } which produces the following output. --23:31:15-- ftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/disks/2/mandrake/devel/cooker/i586/media/main/cdrdao-1.2.0-2mdk.i586.rpm = `/home/tracy/Downloads/test/.listing' 1 Resolving ftp.planetmirror.com... 203.16.234.85, 203.16.234.86 Connecting to ftp.planetmirror.com[203.16.234.85]:21... connected. The #= at the end of the output tells me that none of the output comes from my program. Can anyone show me where I have gone wrong. [Mono-list] Capturing output from Linux Command Line programs
Hi there, On Tue, 2005-08-16 at 07:33 +1000, mono-list.1.tracyanne at spamgourmet.com wrote: Can't you just say mono myprog.exe output.txt? No. Actually if you are using Console.WriteLine in your command line program then mono myprog.exe output.txt will work perfectly. I use this technique all the time. Regards, James Fitzsimons Yes you can, and this has nothing to do with what I am trying to do. Please read my original post. My problem has absolutely nothing to do with capuring output from MY program. I'm trying to capture output from existing linux Command Line program like wget, mkisofs and others, so I can use that output in a GUI application. MY command line program is just something I'm using to test what I want to do. Does anybody actually bother to read these posts? [Mono-list] Re: Mono-list Digest, Vol 4, Issue 5 sender for your account)
I realised what I was doing wrong. I didn't have the test for null if (InputError != null) in my original code, and as I wasn't at the time subscribing to the event, it was naturally going to error out. By the way the code I sent in is pretty much what you'll find on page 309 (Chapter 6 Advanced C# Topics) of Wrox's Professional C#. That's where i copied it from, for my project. regards Tracy Barlow Date: Thu, 04 Aug 2005 01:56:52 -0700 From: Jackson Harper [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Mono-list] Problem with Events To: mono-list@lists.ximian.com Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain On Thu, 2005-08-04 at 17:30 +1000, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Can anyone see anything wrong with this code. It compiles without error, but when I run it I get the following error message Nothing is ever subscribing to your event, so it is null when you are trying to invoke it. You need something like: OnInputError += new InputError (ErrorHandlerFunction); somewhere. A few general style comments: 1. Normally event handler delegates are named somethingHandler. So your InputError delegate would be named InputErrorHandler. 2. Normally events names don't start with On. So OnInputError would be InputError. 3. It's common to wrap the instantiation of an event in a protected method named OnEvent Name. So you would have a method that looks like this: protected void OnInputError (InputErrorEventArgs e) { if (InputError != null) InputError (this, e); } Cheers, Jackson Unhandled Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object in [0x1] (at /home/tracy/MonoDevelop/TestEvents/Main.cs:22) RaiseAnEvent:Run () in [0x7] (at /home/tracy/MonoDevelop/TestEvents/Main.cs:11) MainClass:Main (System.String[] args) I'm using Mono_1.1.8-2. // project created on 04/08/2005 at 17:17 using System; class MainClass { public static void Main(string[] args) { RaiseAnEvent RAE = new RaiseAnEvent(); RAE.Run(); } } class RaiseAnEvent { public delegate void InputError(object sender, InputErrorEventArgs e); public event InputError OnInputError; public void Run() { OnInputError(this, new InputErrorEventArgs(DF, OI)); } } //Class for passing Input Error messages to the application class InputErrorEventArgs : EventArgs { private string errorMessage; private string errorSource; public string ErrorMessage { get { return errorMessage; } } public string ErrorSource { get { return errorSource; } } public InputErrorEventArgs(string Message, string Source) : base() { errorMessage = Message; errorSource = Source; } } ___ Mono-list maillist - Mono-list@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/mono-list -- ___ Mono-list mailing list Mono-list@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/mono-list End of Mono-list Digest, Vol 4, Issue 5 *** ___ Mono-list maillist - Mono-list@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/mono-list

I've been using the Gnome.Entry combobox widget in an application I'm working on. But I notice that according to the C Sharp compiler this widget is obsolete. If one takes the code and includes it in the webservicefilename.asmx, as per the example then the webservice works fine. The same webservice code with code behind webservicefilename.asmx, webservicefilename.asmx.cs pair compiled using VS.NET to a dll in the /bin directory works correctly on Win 2000 with IIS. [Mono-list] MonoDevelop 0.7
I've been following the discussion on MonoDevelop, and strangely I don't seem to have the problems discussed here. I use Mandrake Linux, and install from the SuSE RPMs (I can't find a reliable Mandrake (sorry Mandriva) set of RPMS), and they install well enough - occassionally I have to use --force because of dependency clashes - and everything works fine. The only problems I've encountered are with MonoDoc which ceased to work after I upgraded to 2005 (10.2), and it's probable that a reinstall will fix the problem, as it's likely some libraries were zapped during the upgrade. I think MonoDevelop is a really good product, and that it will only get better. At the moment it's not a patch on VS.NET, as I can't do ASP.NET development with it - and I would love to have available the sort of compile and run environment that is available with VS.NET and IIS, but with the Glade editor, I can do cross platform applications using GTK# (I have the Glade GTK# extension stalled on VS.NET on a MS Windows machine) regards Tracy Anne Barlow ___ Mono-list maillist - Mono-list@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/mono-list
[Mono-list] Where is 1.1.7 ?
There appears to be a little secret where mandrake/Mandriva RPMs for Mono are concerned. If you go to any of the public Mirrors you can find Mandriva RPMs for Mon at /linux/Mandrakelinux/devel/10.2/i586/media/contrib = Mono 1.0.6 /linux/Mandrakelinux/devel/cooker/i586/media/contrib = Mono 1.1.7 I use mirror.pacific.net.au, which is of course in Australia, so the paths might be a bit different. I've been following this thread for a while, and It seems to me that it has gone off on a tanget, and that the initial post dealt with the difficulties that one can, and often faces, when attempting to get Mono installed and running properly. I use Mandriva (formerly Mandrake), recently upgraded to Limited Edition 2005. ***NOTE this is an aside, and not the main thrust of my post* It seems that there is no support for Mandrake/mandriva (this is probably Mandrake/Mandriva's fault, as it seems there may be support for Mono, if you are a Mandriva club member, but it does not appear to be available to the general public). All support seems to be for Red Hat/Fedora and SuSE/Novell distributions, with Mac and Windows, and lipservice for Debian. ***NOTE end aside* I am curently running Mono 1.0.6, in spite of the statements to the effect that 1.1.6 is probably the better way to go. I had, until recently, been using the SuSE 9.2 RPMs to install Mono 1.0.x, and this worked, to an extent. There were always several conflicts with existing Mandrake/Mandriva supplied libraries, for example xrender always gave me problems, and the only way around the problem was to go to the command line and force the Xrender supplied for the SuSE 9.2 Mono RPMs to install over the Mandrake/Mandriva supplied xrender. Unless one did this Mono could not be installed, due to missing depenancies. Recently I uninstalled the entire RPM based SuSE Mono package set, and installed 1.0.6 using the binary installer. The installation went well, and after editing, and moving a few shell scriptes into the /usr/bin directory most of the system worked. I could not however get ASP.NET to work, as it seems there was no mod-mono library for Apache, I searched and was unable to find it. I downloaded and installed the two related files for mod-mono, for SuSE 9.2, from the Mono downloads page, and using RPM -i --force --nodeps managed to install the needed libraries. After stopping and restarting Apache, and deleting some temp files from /tmp, I was able to get ASP.NET working fine. Then I tried installing 1.1.6 from the binary installer. It too did not come with any mod-mono libraries, so I went through a similar process as for 1.0.6. But in spite of the fact that everything seems to be inplace Apache continues to inform me that the system is not responding and that I may have capcity problems. I tried building 1.1.7, from the tar.gz file supplied on the Mono downloads page, but have been unable to do so. I will supply a report showing the errors returnd by the make process, later today mytime.
