[MOPO] Images Wanted

2005-08-31 Thread az

This is an opportunity (?) to disclose that one of my night jobs is
as an open mic crooner and that I'm having my first evening at Rose's
Turn in NYC on October 25th. The show is called THE BEST OF
EVERYTHING: SONGS FROM THE MOVIES 1950-1959 and I'm looking to
supplement the fun (or distract people if my vocal powers fail to
entrance them) by displaying a few images from the movies I'm drawing
songs from. I'd like to show these in a size about half of a 1-sheet,
so I need something (from the web) good enough to enlarge to that size
(app 14x21). I'm looking specifically for 1-sheet images of WHITE
CHRISTMAS, HIGH SOCIETY and IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER. Ideally, if
there are any MPTs of these they would do the job. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Re: [MOPO] From Kirby McDaniel at MovieArt: OFF TOPIC BUT IMPORTANT

2005-08-31 Thread Paul
I just wanted to echo the previous sentiments about the Red Cross. It's so
easy to lose sight of what's important. I caught myself bemoaning my own
situation recently (laid off from my job and dealing with all the expenses
of getting my real estate business moving) and I realized that my problems
really aren't as significant as I think they are. I've got a roof over my
head and I know my loved ones are all safe. I spent time in Biloxi years
ago and hate to think of what's happened down there. Maybe we could all buy
one less poster or put the profits from one poster sale this month into the
Red Cross, it's certainly worthwhile.

Just my 2 cents

The disaster in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area is unprecedented
in many ways. I have many friends in the area
and it is slowly becoming apparent that the situation is fiercer than
anyone could have imagined. The notion that
New Orleans dodged a bullet because Katrina turned eastward
slightly is deceptive because the problems plaguing
New Orleans are manifesting in ways that are suprising. Disease is
just over the horizon. The mosquito problem will
be enormous. Lots of dead animals.

The BEST thing many of us can do to help - and it will be a help - is
to make a monetary donation to The American
Red Cross. The Red Cross and FEMA are on the front lines of this
thing. I hope the movie poster collector and dealer
community will respond quickly. It's important to make a donation
quickly. The Red Cross needs enormous amounts
of money NOW.

You can Google for the Red Cross; I'm sure it will be apparent how to
make a donation.

I have heard from Ed Poole who has found lodging here in Austin -- it
took him 18 hours to drive to Austin
from New Orleans -- and he and his family are safe. LAMP is online
and working normally. We are working
to get him connected to the site. Sue has been able to send out some
e-mails.

Hey Gang,
As many of you know, www.learnaboutmovieposterscom
is owned an operated by Ed and Sue Poole, longtime poster collectors. When they
retired they wrote a book about movie poster collecting and started this
wonderful reference website that we all use. This site is a free site to
collectors and those of us that are sponsors of the site are glad to do it.
Obviously, there is no profit from the site for the Poole's, but rather a labor
of love.
Many of you also know that Ed and Sue live in the
New Orleans area and were evacuated just before Katrina hit. They still have to
information about their home. Because of the situation in that area, they had to
drive 18 hours to get to the nearest place they could find a motel to stay in,
their family and critters (3 large dogs and a chinchilla) in tow. They went west
and part of their family went east. They have been told that they will not be
able to get back to living in their home, if it still exists for over a month.
Most of the roads into that area are not accessible.
Many of my customers who use the website for

an immediate helping hand but as a way to say "thanks" for the endless hours of

[MOPO] Bond-ing Trouble for 007 Producers

2005-08-31 Thread Movielegends
Bond-ing Trouble for 007 Producers

Now that Pierce Brosnan's license to kill has been
officially revoked, finding a replacement 007 is
proving to be a difficult task.

Production on Casino Royale, the latest film in the
James Bond franchise, is scheduled to begin in January
with a target of a fall 2006 release date, but a new
contender to play the martini-swilling spy has yet to
be nailed down.

Numerous actors have been suggested and even
screen-tested for the role, but to date, MGM and Eon
Productions have not settled on an appropriate
candidate to take the reins as the next Bond.

Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, Heath Ledger,
Clive Owen and Orlando Bloom are among the names that
have been floated so far as possible replacements for
Brosnan.

Last August, Hulk star Eric Bana was rumored to be
stepping into 007's shoes; by January, one British
oddsmaker had stopped taking bets on Mission:
Impossible 2 bad guy Dougray Scott after wagers on the
actor increased disproportionately.

Some of the leading men offered up for the role simply
haven't met the qualifications sought by the
higher-ups behind the film; others simply haven't
wanted to commit to a Bond contract.

For example, when Clive Owen, 41, was approached by
Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell about stepping in
the shoes left vacant by Brosnan, he turned the
opportunity down flat.

He already had so many interesting, varied offers on
the table that he wanted to keep his options open,
the actor's spokesman told the Hollywood Reporter.

Other thesps rumored to be under consideration to play
Bond claim they would jump at the chance to fill the
role, but that they have not been approached about it.

Who wouldn't want the chance of being the world's
greatest super-spy agent? Jonathan Rhys Meyers asked
the Hollywood Reporter. It's not reality for me at
the moment.

So far, five actors have tackled the legendary role:
Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy
Dalton and most recently, Brosnan.

In Casino Royale, the first Bond novel by author Ian
Fleming, the famous spy is a mere 28, meaning that
Brosnan, at 52, would have been too old for the role,
were the producers to try and stay true to the story.
(The script is currently being tweaked by Crash
mastermind Paul Haggis.)

Brosnan, who was associated with the role for four
films and the better part of 10 years, did not sound
overly wistful at leaving it behind.

It never felt real to me, he told Entertainment
Weekly earlier this month. I never felt I had
complete ownership over Bond. Because you'd have these
stupid one-liners--which I loathed--and I always felt
phony doing them.

The search is on for a leading man who can deliver an
order for a martini, shaken, not stirred, and feel
good about himself while doing it.

Re: [MOPO] PLEASE READ !! Ed Sue Poole

2005-08-31 Thread Susan Heim

Hey Gang,
I actually just went back and looked at my original emails and
I "did" include the period before "com. I wonder why when I sent it to the
group, the dot fell out. Maybe it has something to do withone of
theservers. Anyway, thought I would go back and check. I know I am getting
old, but I wouldn't screw up twice in the same email.

Hey Gang,
As many of you know, www.learnaboutmovieposterscom
is owned an operated by Ed and Sue Poole, longtime poster collectors. When
they retired they wrote a book about movie poster collecting and started
this wonderful reference website that we all use. This site is a free site
to collectors and those of us that are sponsors of the site are glad to do
it. Obviously, there is no profit from the site for the Poole's, but rather
a labor of love.
Many of you also know that Ed and Sue live in
the New Orleans area and were evacuated just before Katrina hit. They still
have to information about their home. Because of the situation in that area,
they had to drive 18 hours to get to the nearest place they could find a
motel to stay in, their family and critters (3 large dogs and a chinchilla)
in tow. They went west and part of their family went east. They have been
told that they will not be able to get back to living in their home, if it
still exists for over a month. Most of the roads into that area are not
accessible.
Many of my customers who use the website for
reference have contacted me about making a donation to the Poole's, not only
as an immediate helping hand but as a way to say "thanks" for the endless
hours of work they do in making this free site a wonderful benefit for all
of us movie poster collectors.
They don't know anything about this and
I'm sure would be very humbled at the gesture. They are wonderful people and
I consider them friends. I'm sure anything you send would be greatly
appreciated. You can go to paypal, hit send moneyand their paypal
name is [EMAIL PROTECTED].
If you have any questions, you can
contact me at anytime. Thanks again and to all those affected by this
catastrophe, our thoughts are with you.

Re: [MOPO] new LIVE EBAY AUCTION seller --- who is he?

2005-08-31 Thread Michael Greenwood

Hi Michael
Ritchies auction house in Toronto is the venue for the September 10th.
poster auction that runs alongside Mike Orlando's Show of Shows (poster
show/sale thing) and the Toronto International Film Festival. That
whopping buyer's premium is what you normally get from an auction house
when they interact with ebay. That's what I'm assuming anyway and
I'm willing to be corrected.
I'll be there in person so I can be hired to make your bids!
That's a joke.
All the best,
Michael
