[MOPO] FS: Very rare poster for SPARTACUS (1960)

2006-05-09 Thread Kirby McDaniel
This is a poster which is from the display material in the old recordstore we purchased.  This is one of several posters produced for DeccaRecords advertising the soundtrack by Alex North for SPARTACUS.  Allof the roadshow displays are shown on the poster.  While not a movie poster(it's actually much rarer than any film poster on this title that I know of),it's nevertheless a great item on this film.Take a look.   $850.00  Rolled, near mint.http://tinyurl.com/fabqsK Kirby McDaniel MovieArt Original Film Posters P.O. [MOPO] fs 1932 Original GRAND HOTEL one sheet

2006-05-09 Thread H Brek Anderson

Hi,
I am new to this site. Sue of Hollywood Posters
recommended I get some input from MOPO members.
I found an original 1932 Grand Hotel one sheet in
excellent shape except some edge ware. The body of the poster is
very
bright. It has been rolled for around 50 years so
the folds are faint and doesn't have any fading. It has not been linen
backed. I'm sure most people know Bruce and Gray. Both have
been very gracious, but anxious to get me to commit
to a sale or auction. I am going to make a decision on what to do over
the
next day or so on what to do. I would appreciate
any input on how much one would be willing to pay for this poster. There is only
one
or maybe two more one sheets that have ever
surfaced (depending on who you ask).  Please don't email with questions
like how much will you take?, because I don't
have an answer. I would love to hear what would you
would be willing to pay? I will keep interested parties informed on if I
sell it or put it to auction.
Cheers,
Brek

Re: [MOPO] fs 1932 Original GRAND HOTEL one sheet

2006-05-09 Thread JR

Brek,

Well, since you asked... I personally wouldn't give you $200 for it...
but many others would undoubtedly go much higher... my point being that what a
collector will pay for a poster (even a truly rare one) is a purely personal
matter based on individual tastes and desires -- unless someone
is buying it strictly for investment/speculative purposes and then it
becomes an even more tricky question as they have to take past and current
market trends into consideration and then make an educated guess on what the
future market might bring. Bottom line: The easiest way you'll ever
know for sure what a poster like this is worth is to consign it with a
top-end auction operation like Bruce Hershenson or Heritage... or
perhaps someone like Morris Everett for the once-a-year high-end live
cinevent auction (coming up in just a couple of weeks now... see:  http://www.cinevent.com/ ). You can
rely on those professionals to do the job of promoting the item and
offering it to their clientele -- then see what happens. The other way is to
solicit private offers and see what pops up, but that can take a long time and
still doesn't tell you much, because you don't know if the word has got out to
the right big-money buyers (as you know will happen if you consign it to one of
the big operations).

Best of luck. It seems like in your case it is "found money" no matter
what.

Re: [MOPO] fs 1932 Original GRAND HOTEL one sheet

2006-05-09 Thread Sean Linkenback

I’ll be a little more bold than JR and go ahead and commit to the $200 offer.

It is a strange question, you want offers
but don’t have an answer to what it would take for you to sell?

So you don’t want any how much will
you take, but want everyone to give the same thing – how much will you
pay.

Are you wanting to know if Bruce or Grey
are being honest with you on their estimates?

Or if someone offers you a million dollars
here you’ll just go ahead and take it?

Well now you have a solid offer of $200 to
compare to the consignors offer.

And remember I offer immediate payment, no
waiting months for it to be auctioned.  ;-)

Re: [MOPO] IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT.........

2006-05-09 Thread Mark Stewart
Like many others it would depend on the day and
probably the hour.

I would have to say an insert and title card for ALL
the universal titles. Frank, Wolfie, Drac, Mummy,
etc

But if I had to choose only one right now I would love
to have a R47 Frankenstein one sheet.

So many posters and not enough money
