Re: [MOPO] The Candidate "McKay Is The Way" Orig US Poster---Probably a prop from film

2006-10-17 Thread Joseph Bonelli
Hi, Rick, Freeman et. al.  from Joe B in New Orleans.     While thumbing through my copy of Robert Osborne's (Turner Classic Movies host amongst other accomplishments) 70 Years of Oscar book I came across a still from "The Candidate."    It shows Robert Redford at a podium giving what must be a campaign speech.    On the podium below Redford is what may well be the very same prop poster pictured here.       Joe[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, Everyone,       I received a very nice email from my friend and colleague, Freeman Fisher, pointing out that this poster was most likely a prop used in
the film, not an alternate poster which had any widespread release.  Undoubtedly, I would assume this adds to its scarcity and value.  Until I heard from Freeman, this never crossed my mind (although it definitely should have, since I've been in this hobby for so many years).  Maybe this explains why the same poster sold for such a high amount in Christie's Auction a few years ago (over $600).  I want to thank Freeman for his continued insight (one of the truly helpful people in the hobby).  I've included the link below if you want to take another look at the poster with this new explanation as to the poster's origin.  Thank you again, Freeman.  With your knowledge and humor, I really believe you're one of the true linchpins of the MoPo community.

[MOPO] FA & closing in hours: 931 original vintage folded one-sheets

2006-10-17 Thread Bruce Hershenson
This is Bruce Hershenson. I have 931 original vintage folded one-sheets
(including Breakfast at Tiffany's!) that I have on eBay closing TONIGHT,
Tuesday night (10/17). Note that as of Tuesday afternoon (with just hours to
go), there are still 75 of these 931 posters at their opening bid of 99 cents,
around 210 are still under $3, around 400 are still under $6, around 500 are
under $10, around 700 are under $20, and most of the 231 or so that are above
$20 are still way under their official retail prices (the ones you could find
anywhere else)!

As of now, there truly are LOTS of incredible deals.. Be sure to check out
these 931 folded one-sheets sometime before they end Tuesday night, October
17th, starting at around 7 PM CST (either by going to
http://www.emovieposter.com/gallery/currentauctions.php or by using the link
from my HOME page, http://www.emovieposter.com or by finding me by my eBay user
ID, emovieposter.com).

I HAVE BEEN SITTING HERE SHAKING MY HEAD, WONDERING WHY SOME OF THE CURRENT
PRICES ARE SO LOW. And then it hit me! I don't have buyers premiums, and many
of you are so used to them, that it makes you uncomfortable to buy from
auctions that don't have them. And you may well be so used to paying a high
shipping price for your auction wins that it makes you uncomfortable to pay the
low amounts I charge.

LAST WEEK, I MADE THE FOLLOWING SPECIAL OFFER TO MOPO MEMBERS WHO WERE
UNCOMFORTABLE BUYING FROM AUCTIONS WITH NO BUYERS PREMIUMS. Anyone who bought
from those auctions and let me know they are a member of MoPo was allowed to
pay an additional buyers premium (over and above the amount they bid) of ONLY
17.5% (with a minimum buyers premium of JUST NINE DOLLARS per lot)! And as for
shipping, again just for MoPo members, I threw out my regular $5.50-$10 U.S.
shipping (no matter how many lots you buy) and I charged MoPo members who let
me know JUST $8 for each and every lot you buy!

That special promotion was a huge success, and I saw lots of final day bids
from MoPo members. But I was told that some auction houses now charge 20% and
22.5% buyers premium, so this week I will not only repeat my offer, but I will
raise the buyers premium to 22.5%!

I was also asked if I could provide crappy images to MoPo members that obscured
many of the defects of the items and make it difficult to tell the actual
condition of each item, but that would have been too time-consuming to do on
such short notice, so that will have to wait for some time in the future.

So if my lack of a buyers premium or low, low shipping costs have been holding
you back from bidding on these one-sheets, know that this is no longer a
problem. Thanks very much, and good luck on any items you bid on.

Bruce

the

Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo was ranked second and Jaws was third.

Total Film's top 100 list contained some surprises - the Humphrey Bogart

2006-10-17 Thread Andy Neal

Goodfellas named 'greatest movie'

Martin Scorsese's gangster film Goodfellas has been named the greatest movie of all time in a poll for Total Film magazine.
The 1990 film, which won an Oscar for supporting actor Joe Pesci, topped the list compiled by film experts.
"It is slick, arguably the slickest film ever made. But it is also considered, layered and freighted with meaning," a Total Film spokesman said.
Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo was ranked second and Jaws was third.

GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME

1. Goodfellas
2. Vertigo
3. Jaws
4. Fight Club
5. The Godfather: Part Two
6. Citizen Kane
7. Tokyo Story
8. The Empire Strikes Back
9. The Lord of the Rings trilogy
10. His Girl Friday
