Poster above fireplace damage??Hi Ryan, I just removed some lobbies and Photos
(framed and under Plexi) from the wall over my
Pellet Stove (the cleanest burning of fuels) and with the pellet stove the heat
is fanned out (doesn't migrate up)
and I could not believe how dirty everything was
and how the yellow grime had infiltrated the frames, (would assume that this
soot is acidic)
These were fairly recent hangings and this wall was painted a few months ago
and I did not start using the stove untill around the middle of Sept.
Regards Susan

2006-11-17 Thread Susan Heim
Poster above fireplace damage??Hey Ryan,
Typically if you are using plexiglass or acrylic there should not be a
problem. However, assuming you're talking about a nice little cozy fire, you
might want to put a fire on for awhile and then feel the wall you will be
hanging the frame on. Sometimes the fireboxes inside the wall aren't that good
and the wall can heat up, obviously not to the point that it would cause a
fire, but enough heat to make the back of the frame warm and can cause drying
out of the poster and thus brittlization. I have a french 47x63 framed above my
fireplace. It has hung there for 12 years and there is no problem at all. I do
periodically open it up just to check. Hope this info helps. Please feel free
to call me with any questions.

try not to
