[MOPO] FA: Lots of quality stills in bulk lots closing TODAY, many just PENNIES per still!

2008-01-24 Thread Bruce Hershenson
WE CURRENTLY HAVE REALLY SENSATIONAL AUCTIONS (of 3,538 vintage 8 x 10
stills in 451 lots with 2 to 56 stills per lot, with most of four or more!)
CLOSING TODAY, January 24th!

WITH JUST HOURS TO GO, THERE ARE STILL OVER 250 OF THESE LOTS UNDER $10 PER
LOT AND OVER 80 AT JUST 99 CENTS EACH! And that's per LOT, not per STILL!
There are lots with five, ten and even 20 stills that are still 99 cents for
ALL the stills!

IN NOVEMBER, WE SOLD 599 LOTS OF STILLS FROM THESE SAME TWO COLLECTIONS, AND
AFTER THE AUCTIONS CLOSED, WE RECEIVED LOTS OF E-MAILS FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE
SORRY THEY HAD NOT BID HIGHER ON ONE OR MORE OF THE LOTS. Please realize
that we are running out of the stills from these amazing collections, and we
have enough to do one more small auction of these groups of stills from
these collections a couple of months from now. THIS REALLY IS A REALLY
WONDERFUL COLLECTION OF STILLS AND UNBELIEVABLY GOOD CONDITION, AND I WOULD
THINK THAT STILL COLLECTORS (and dealers) WILL BE THINKING ABOUT THIS
AUCTION FOR SOMETIME TO COME (and kicking themselves over some of the lots
that they missed out on!).

There are definitely many lots here where I have previously sold SINGLE
stills for $10 or $20 each, and yet the entire lot of four (or ten or 20)
stills is currently only $10 or $20 for ALL OF THEM! In many cases, you can
buy the lot, sell off just a few of the stills individually for the same or
more than you paid for all of them, and end up with great free stills!

On January 17th, we added 3,538 vintage 8 x 10 stills in 451 lots with 2
to 56 stills per lot, with most of four or more! and they close on Thursday,
January 24th! Read more about these below, or go see them right now (with
large thumbnails and links to these on eBay for easy bidding) in our
Thursday Auction Gallery!

and many, many more great stills!

Note that these stills come to us from two amazing sources:
One is from the collection of a New York City publicist who worked in
the movie business in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was sent large
numbers of mostly black-and-white stills from movies being released at that
time, including all of the very best titles. The studios sent these stills
directly to him, to aid him in publicizing the movies (often they would also
include a sheet or several sheets with captions for the stills, or with
information about the movie). Unlike the vast majority of publicists, who
would discard the stills or give them away, this particular publicist
carefully stored all of the stills he was sent and is only now first
offering them for sale! Not only has this collection not been picked over,
but the stills are also in remarkable condition (most look as though they
were just printed, but we assure you they were not!).
The second collection comes to us from a theater owner and covers a
wider range of years than the above collection, including many going back to
the 1930s and 1940s, and they are slightly in lesser condition than the
above

[MOPO] FS: New website - movieposterstudio.com

2008-01-24 Thread Paul Gerrard

Hi MOPOers,
I’d like to draw your attention to my new website _www.movieposterstudio.com_
(http://www.movieposterstudio.com/) .
Some of you already know me, in fact I’ve bought some great items from many
on this list over the years, but for those who don’t, I’m a collector
sometime trader from the UK. I got hooked long ago in the '80s when I lived
in
the USA for a while. I started with a 1-sheet for “Young Man With Ideas”.
Not a classic by any means, but I stumbled across it by chance after seeing it
on TV, and seeing myself as “a young man with ideas” at the time… hmm well
maybe. The next thing I knew, I’d acquired some of my favourite titles and
completely run out of wall-space. By then it was too late – my mind had been
possessed by poster-collecting aliens. Or that’s my excuse : )
I’m still in the process of loading things onto the site, but have a
reasonable number of items for sale there now, so please check it out. Whatever
 I
do, I always try to be as professional as possible. It goes without saying, if
you have any questions, please let me know.
Hope you like it, if only to see some more poster images...!
Paul Gerrard

the original material, which is not special.

I would also like to thank Scott for keeping MoPo alive and well, all at no
cost to anyone who participates. It is a great source of information and I have
met many wonderful people and fellow collectors here, not to mention allowing
me the resource to locate a poster now and again for a client. While Scott has
been a customer of mine, in gratitude and friendship, I would like to send him
an Archival frame to use for whatever poster he finds with Kirby.

Thank you again Scott for your patience and perseverance. I am so glad to be a
part of the group! Give me a call

I would like to extend to Scott our thanks for grooming and keeping
MOPO as a resource, and as a token of our regard for his unselfish
work, we would like to offer Scott a $250.00 merchandise credit from MovieArt

MovieArt Austin has over 20,000 posters - ALL of them Universal Horror

Scott.

On behalf of Steve Goodwin, David Sobey and myself at MovieArt Austin
I would like to extend to Scott our thanks for grooming and keeping
MOPO as a resource, and as a token of our regard for his unselfish
work, we would like to offer Scott a $250.00 merchandise credit from MovieArt
Austin.

MovieArt Austin has over 20,000 posters - ALL of them Universal Horror
titles - so there should be something in there that you will find amusing,
Scott.

Thanks and Best Wishes,

Yes, very generous indeed and thank you for the reminder! It's certainly to
Scott's credit that MOPO is alive and well.

I believe no one knows just how challenging running a list / forum / group is
until they try and for most of us, that's not going to happen.

I hear it's enough to make you go grey!!!
