Re: [MOPO] bonnie and clyde - orig or re release?
You guys are of course right, I made a mistake yesterday. The NRC tag is a giveaway, this is a re-release. However, Warner-Seven Arts only existed from 1967-69 (then it became Warner Communications), and I find it quite odd, that they used the old company name on 1970s poster. Another example from the time (where the changed the info) would be BULLITT: The original daybill has the W7 logo, while the re-release (also one-color) has the round 'W' logo in the bottom. Helmut Yes, that one is a reissue. The original is full colour and quite rare. Hi David, Think you missed out the link to your auction, but assume this question relates to Bruce's query. The experts in Oz would certainly be able to confirm, but I think this is a re-release daybill - NRC censorship rating was only used after 1971 - http://australianscreen.com.au/chronology/1970s/http://australianscreen.com.au/chronology/1970s/ . I seem to remember there is a full-colour original release. There are a few daybills where rating gives away a re-release on otherwise very similar posters - Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid is common example. The G rating on your War of the Worlds auction would also imply it is 1970s re-release or later. Re: [MOPO] High Socity Reprint question...
I have no specifics on this title but I believe MGM records reissued many of its classic MGM musical soundtrack albums in the 1970s and as a promotion included special reprint posters of the original one sheets with the record release. They were on different stock from the originals but I don't remember the size of the posters. In any case if you think the paper stock was different on the one sheet offerred to you, it's probably a reprint. I remember those records as twofers - gatefold albums with two or more films on each double album. But I don't remember the posters. [MOPO] TEXAS
It is doubtful that anyone on the list who really experienced this storm is really even in a position to get this post. There is no power. The upper Texas coast is a mess. Even though the storm was actually not as bad as Texas officials had feared, nevertheless it was awful. There is no power for almost 2 MILLION people. When people tell you that everything in Texas is big, that includes power outages as well. Flooding is widespread and is being complicated today by additional, non - hurricane related rains caused by a cool front wringing moisture from the coastal atmosphere. This means that the hurricane flooding is being hampered in draining. There haven't been a lot of deaths reported, but this may be because rescue teams cannot get into some of the residential areas yet. In short, it's a wreck. Here in Austin we did not even get one drop of rain or any high wind. This was a different scenario than the one posited at the beginning of last week, when Austin was in the storm target area. K. Good to hear Kirby that you are safe. I have been watching the scenario unfold most of the week. One of the problems I see now is that all the people who were told to evacuate that didn't are now having to be rescued which adds to the already awful sitution officials are dealing with. We had our own situation here in Chatsworth on Friday afternoon when a Metrorail train collided head on with a freight train. The tracks where the accident occured run right alongside my daughter's elementary school. In fact the grassy area that was shown on the t.v. as the triage area was their playing field. We worried for years about those track locations hoping that no train would ever jump the track and head into a playing field with children on it. She is now in jr. high school about a block up the road but was being picked up from volleyball practice exactly as the trains collided. So, it was a mess and a very sad situation. Re: [MOPO] High Socity Reprint question...
Soundtrack album posters were usually 22x33 so they could fit in the record sleeve. This gave them similar proportions to a 1-sheet, though they were smaller than the standard 1-sheet size. Probably the best-known of these soundtrack LP posters is the one for Singin' in the Rain, which still occasionally turns up on eBay mis-identified as an original 1-sheet. Re: [MOPO] TEXAS
Friday afternoon we decided to evacuate. The radar just looked too bad. I will say that the message to Houstonians that were not in the specific zip codes with mandatory evacuation orders was mixed/confusing. At the time we left, the general message was 'stay put'. I could understand that given the timing of our departure, but there was also never a window previous to that when there was a recommendation to leave for non-coastal areas. When we got on the freeway, it was very easy driving until we got about 10 miles west of Katy (western suburb of Houston) and then it jammed up for about 30 minutes. It was fairly chaotic, with people jumping in and out of the shoulders and a few cars stranded on the side of the road. With all of that, it only took us about 4 hours to get to Round Rock (north of Austin). However, I will say that it was pretty damned stupid for Houston to not open contraflow lanes (reverse direction of the opposing side of the freeways), as they should have allowed anyone who wanted to get out to get out. This seemed like an artificial justification of their stay put order (i.e., if everyone leaves it will be too jammed up because we didn't open contraflow). Like Kirby said, the most we got here in Round Rock was a strong breeze yesterday. No rain. I have been scouring the web today looking for information about our area. I do know this: Brennan's restaurant, a landmark in Houston for 43 years, burned down -- and that is directly across the street from our apartment. I'm glad we missed that since it burned right when the hurricane was getting strong downtown. It would have been pretty scary to watch and decide if we should stay and risk burning or go out into the night and risk being blow away. I can't find much on our area, only a few photos on flickr of central Houston and it looks pretty bad. I just hope our place is relatively OK and that posterdemic's holdings haven't become a heck of a lot rarer. -Erich www.posterdemic.com On Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 10:30 AM, Susan Heim [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Good to hear Kirby that you are safe. There was nothing indicating it was a reprint. I explained to him that I felt it was a reprint but he insisted that he worked at MGM and has had this poster since the mid-sixties and that it came from the president's office. He also claimed to have sold another exactly like it, unfolded. Another red flag I thought. Following all that the paper didn't feel right either. Anyone know of early reprints on this title or run across anything like this on this title before? I'd like to be honest with the guy and tell him exactly what he has. I would appreciate any comments. Many thanks, Glenn T.
