[MOPO] Star Trek Poster Advance

2009-09-10 Thread Flixspix
Rick,

The STAR TREK poster you have was a one per playdated theatre
ultra-advance onesheet created for the film and shipped almost 11 months in
advance of
opening. What made it quite unique was it was one of the first posters to
incorporate foil within the letters of the title. Unfortunately the poster
did not measure 27 x 41 and while this was a bit ahead of theatres
switching almost exclusively to back lit poster cases (which wouldn't have
worked
as it was not transparent), it still did not fit into snap-lock poster
cases either because it was too small. So in most cases they were taped on
the wall of theatre box offices or they didn't get put up at all. They are
extremely scarce but Trekkers are notoriously cheap and simply don't put up
the bucks to purchase proportionally given the scarcity of the poster and
its quality (thick paper, glossy varnish, nifty design of the title with
starburst.) If you get $200 to $300 for it consider yourself doing great
with the piece.

[MOPO] STAR TREK 1-Sheet Question

2009-09-10 Thread Rixposterz
Hi, all,

I was wondering if any MoPoer's with more Star Trek knowledge than I
have could shed some light on an original 1979 US one sheet featuring
Huyssen artwork (as opposed to the usual Bob Peak art). I don't find them
listed hardly at all anywhere. Did the studio have only a limited release of
this style when the film came out in '79? I'm not stumped too often, but in
this case, I definitely am. Any insight into this style Star Trek US one
sheet would be greatly appreciated,
   Thanks very much in
advance,
Rick

[MOPO] WTB: Carl Theodor Dreyer material

2009-09-10 Thread Mat McCarthy

Hello Mopo-

Looking for original Carl Theodor Dreyer material - just about anything BESIDES
posters. As long as it's original and Dreyer-related - could be stills,
lobbies, scripts, etc. Something from PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC or VAMPYR would
be great, but it doesn't have to be from any specific film - any non-poster
items from any of his films would be of interest.

And I'm still looking for the following:

IN THE LOOP (2009) U.S. 1 sheets

CALAMITY JANE (Doris Day) Italian 39x55

ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE Italian advance/teaser

Also,
for those of you in Los Angeles we've installed our exhibit THE NEW
HOLLYWOOD at a great restaurant, Bloom Cafe on Pico Blvd. It'll be
there through October, so stop by if you're in the neighborhood:

http://www.filmartgallery.com/gallery.cfm

Plus
we have only two more screenings left in the Cinespia summer screenings
series at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. This Saturday, it's our annual
showing of PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE, featuring some special guests. The
following week, Saturday the 19th, we'll be showing ROSEMARY'S BABY.
More info here:

http://www.cinespia.org/calendar/

And if you want to check out the latest posters on the site, please take a look:

http://www.filmartgallery.com/latest.cfm

Finally - anyone else make it to the Cinerama double feature Tuesday night?
Just curious.

Thanks!

Does anyone happen to have a poster for the recent film, "Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre" for sale?  I believe the film was released in early 2009.  I have seen two posters for the film.  One is based on photography and the other is rendered in a style mildly similar to that of Saul Bass (although some may disagree).  I'm looking for the latter. Thanks in advance.Saul

Re: [MOPO] Unbelievably Customer-Friendly Poster Business with the best still auction ever.

2009-09-10 Thread Brek Anderson

Kudos and more kudos.

As a small time buyer I have never had any mess ups and always received the low
cost items packed as if they were very expensive pieces. Since I haven't bought
expensive items I really don't know how the expensive items are packed.
Heritage & Rich also go overboard no matter what the value of the items.

As a seller I have been impressed with Bruce as well. He and his staff are very
prompt in replying to emails. I feel very confident all my items are cataloged
and won't be lost.

I have sent sports and other items to a large auction house and have had some
valuable items that have never been auctioned nor returned (going on 3 years).

I recently have also gone to great lengths to offer items for auction to an
auction company and finally got a couple of replies and a request more pics.
Then after taking the time to take and send many more pictures, I got no reply.
Not even a not interested or explanation. I am just too small of a fish. Even
though I am not a big mega seller, this does not happen with Bruce or his
staff. I have always get the respect of a reply within a few days if not hours.
I feel confident if I send in a group of items with or without an inventory
list it will be accounted for and that items will be auctioned in a timely
manner and in the best venue for the seller and the buyer.

Rich's experience makes me feel all the more confident to buy or sell through
Bruce.

Please look at Bruce's still auction ending tonight.

If you want to experience this seller's great customer service this would be a
great auction to bid in and get some rare items. How about that  Gilda still?
Did you see that Abbott & Costello meet Frankenstein ? What about Dietrich,
Lombard , Fay  Wray , Swanson or W.C. Fields ?

Can you believe this still is only at $41?

http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=1537977

Disclosure: No I am not the big seller in the auction, but maybe I have a few
in the group .

Subject: [MOPO] Unbelievably Customer-Friendly Poster Business

today I got an email that I couldn't believe from Bruce
it seems they sold some Blue Brothers French posters that weren't up to snuff
and researched every buyer - including myself - for years back.
I bought one in 2005 and they want to refund my moolah.

kudos Bruce. That is incredible customer service

Rich.. Bruce's letter below:

This is Bruce. We recently sold a French one-panel poster that had the
distributor logo "Cine Poster" at the bottom, and after we sold the poster, we
were notified by a leading French expert that this was a commercial poster, and
not a theater poster. Apparently, this company has been making commercial
versions of regular French theater posters for approximately 30 years. Unlike
U.S. commercial posters, which are usually a different size and have some other
differences from theatrical posters, these French commercial posters appear to
be exactly the same as the French theatrical posters, with the sole exception
of the "Cine Poster" logo.

So we cancelled that sale. But then it occurred to us that we may well have
unknowingly sold other Cine Poster commercial posters in the past, so we spent
a GREAT deal of time researching EVERY French poster we EVER sold, and we had
to look at every single image, to see if the logo was on it, and we were able
to determine that over the past 9 years we sold 42 of these (40 of them were
one-panels, and two of them were the "medium" size French posters).

You purchased 1 of those 42 posters from us.
The poster you won is (we give the date, the auction number, the title, and the
closing price):
6/28/2005 7525607578 BLUES BROTHERS $16.50

Since it did not sell for very much money, we want to offer you one of two
options:

1) You can return it to us for a full refund, including shipping.

2) You can keep the poster, and we will give you a partial refund (just think
what you would have paid for the poster had you known that it was a commercial
poster, and if we agree you are being fair, we will refund you the difference).

Remember that the poster looks identical to the theatrical poster (except for
the distributor logo "Cine Poster" at the bottom), and that it was made when
the movie was first released (unless we identified as a re-release, and then it
was made when the movie was re-released at that time).

Of course, we are very sorry this occurred. It was something we did not know,
and we are rather surprised that no one e-mailed over the past nine years to
give us this information (we will now do all we can to spread this information
throughout the hobby). As always, we do now have any "time limit" on correcting
mistakes we made (in this case, we are correcting mistakes that go back as far
as 9 years!), and ou

Great move by Bruce, to be sure, but I'm perplexed that it took so long
for this "Cine Poster" issue to come to everyone's attention. I mean, I
know we concentrate on US-release posters, but still you would have
thought that over the years someone would have said... "hey, Cine Poster
is the French equivalent of Portal Reproductions".
