Re: [MOPO] O/t funny for Horder collectors everywhere

2011-10-05 Thread dreamfactory
> OK so My son has found a niche that hes good at.. hemakes props..
sci fi stuff like ray guns and helments and costume things and peole
love his work hes on Ebay if you type prop raygun " Martin Martian
rayguns.com youll find him.. well hes sold to bigtime movie guys as
they seem to like it and he makes them each original from found
parts.. just like lucasfilms guys back in the day.. Tommy was raised
on shows like Movie magic as a kid so hes really into the behind the
scenes...
so I decided i would show him all my haunts for special hardware and
odd parts...kinda the " pass the torch " thing well so we
wentplaces and it was hard for me to get around so i say I will wait
in the car as wewent to a Goodwill shop. so out he comes after
like 10 mins and says dad i bought a small Organ for 15.00 he
already has like 4 organs but he seems to be fasinated with them i
always liked hammond b-3 smyself but not home organd.. with that
cheesy sound/ so he says its a toy organ so i think ooh cute he
bought a emenne toy kid organ thats nice ... a few minutes later a
cart witha FULL size ORGAN rolls outI have a toyoto matrix and
this thin would take a truck...soi did the typical parent panic
attack of where are you going to put that,,, why did you getanother
and man you are nutsand odd and crazy..
then he said well thats like calling the kettle blac, and the
fruitdont fall far from the tree.. and wedebated over analog sound
vs digital all the way back to his house,, both where fed up and
angered...
then I thought wow... ive done so many silly things if all he does is
buy obeslete organs who knows maybe some day they will be in deman
again ,,,or just a joy to play,, this monster organ had pedals and
all and a drum machine,,so i realized im becoming the closed mined
old man.. It just went against all my recent minimalist thinking..
because of its oddity ...
But now i think itwas a cool statement as, he didnt buy it because he
thought it would be worth 100s he bought it because he loved the
sounds from a organand i repsect that... so our kids can teach us to
think like kids again when we made mistakes and where carefree.. If
you think that was some fun times.
I guess when people collect they get fixated or addicted or
emotionally turned on by certain things visual, or audible.. which
isnt bad if it can be sustained and doesnt overwhelm them
physically.. the keyis balance i guess..
In retrospect i found the entire experience Funny.. the kodak moment
was him wheeling out a giant Organ to my Toyota :))
hope all are having a great fall.

Re: [MOPO] O/t funny for Horder collectors everywhere

2011-10-05 Thread dreamfactory
I think the look of disbelief on my face would have rivaled Jack
bennys looks..
and he actually thought we could put it in sideways..
It was a FULL console organ , heavy in wood cabinet with Floorpedals..
I took him home so he could get his Pickup truck..
I was hyperventalating all the way to his house, asking him WHY why
why...?How many organs does he need, bla bla bla...Our Kids know all
the buttons to push as they know us better then anyone..
But then i remember the day I bought a 24 foot Uhaul truck of movie
projects and I got the same look and treatment from My EX-wife :)

The son I guess just has a passion for Huge Organs...at least he
doesnt collect tractors or bulldozers that would really be a storage
issue. :)
so I can be gratefull for that..
To all parents out there,, I feel for You..if you have crazed
artistic collector kids.

[MOPO] 4 extra folds? 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 extra undisclosed folds

2011-10-05 Thread Michael B
first appears my email to this mega-ebay seller. then his response. then
my response, to which he has ignored. please give me your comments. i
paid 45. with shipping.

FIRST EMAIL:

hello: got shipment notification just today, and pkg arrived today.

i purchased from you in the past---i recognized your enclosures, although
i do not recall the titles or the ebay acct i used.

i am really surprised & disappointed that your description did not
state/disclose that the poster had 4 extra horizontal folds. therefore, this
insert has 7 folds.three standard plus the four extras. the extra folds
have lots of surrounding wrinkles, and some paper loss.

as a poster dealer, this issue/defect is something you know MUST be
disclosed. while i appreciated that your ebay image is large, these EXTRA 4
folds are not visiblehence your description should have referenced this.
in fact, in fact, even the standard studio folds are hard to see in the
photo, so i have to wonder why.

extra folds must be disclosed, so i do not understand why you, as a poster
dealer--did not disclose them.

i thought this was a fair deal for us both in this Make-An-Ebay-Offer
purchase, but with this defect, i am not so sure.
FIRST RESPONSE:

M - I am sorry about this problem, we want you to be happy with the items
you get from us. I think that the problem occurred because the person who
does the scans is not always the same person who does the descriptions.
She often writes the description with the scan on the screen and probably
could not see the extra folds in the scan either. Do you want to return the
poster for a refund?

MY UNASWERED RESPONSE:

thank you for your reply.

the fact that you said one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing,
and there is no one overseeing the process, doesn't exude confidence to buy
expensive items from you. accurate descriptions is so very important.

i will now think whether to return the poster and ask you to pay the 10.00
return postage, or ask for a price adjustment to reflect the value of of
poster with 4 extra folds.

your thoughts?

thanks
michael

Because of the amount of newsreel footage that exists from this

2011-10-05 Thread Evan Zweifel
Its hard to understand what your motivation is for bringing this to our
attention.

If you are disappointed, return the poster.

Don't haggle over the price as you will never be satisfied -- and you will just
annoy the seller.

If you only lose $10 on a failed poster transaction, consider yourself very
very lucky!

Subject: [MOPO] 4 extra folds? 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 extra undisclosed folds

first appears my email to this mega-ebay seller. then his response. then
my response, to which he has ignored. please give me your comments. i
paid 45. with shipping.

MY UNASWERED RESPONSE:

thank you for your reply.

the fact that you said one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing,
and there is no one overseeing the process, doesn't exude confidence to buy
expensive items from you. accurate descriptions is so very important.

i will now think whether to return the poster and ask you to pay the 10.00
return postage, or ask for a price adjustment to reflect the value of of
poster with 4 extra folds.

your thoughts?

thanks
michael

[MOPO] eBay worries..

2011-10-05 Thread Annie Wallace
Hey guys...

I've put several posters up on eBay which I KNOW are worth a bundle

Although I know they are worth more, I started the bidding at about £40.00
GBP.

Now they HAVE attracted attention. I have received several private messages
asking to sell quick and end the auction (which I have respectfully
declined) and the top two currently have a lot of "watchers"... however they
have yet to attract a single bid.

My worry is that they will end up going for WAY under their selling price
due to the unpredictability of the eBay system.

Although it would protect my valuable posters, I was told that putting
reserves on posters can scare bidders away.

I'm even tempted to cancel the auction at the weekend, rather than lose my
valuable items to auction tactics. (I'm not being greedy... I just don't
want to be ripped off)

Please give me some advice on this, as I'm NOT a dealer, but times are hard
and I need these posters to reach at least their average value!

Cheers

Re: [MOPO] 4 extra folds? 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 extra undisclosed folds

2011-10-05 Thread lovenoir2
You needs to take a breath, write a few less number 4's the next time
and use spell check.

Your first email to this seller mentions "extra folds" over and over.
I'm sure he "got it" the first time.

The seller explained what happened, offered to make you a refund --
yet you went off on him / her a second time with more complaining.

This is a perfect example of how a responsible seller apologies and
offers to make good yet an "off center" buyer does nothing but
continue to complain and threaten to make price reduction demands,
should he decide to keep this "flawed and 4 4 4 4 over-folded"
poster.

At this point, if he opts to keep it, he should get no partial refund,
since the seller offered to refund him, in full, if he was
dissatisfied.

Send the poster back or keep it and quit complaining.

Re: [MOPO] eBay worries..

2011-10-05 Thread Vesna B

I don't understand why you wouldn't start them at a price you are not
comfortable receiving.
If you are not prepared to sell it for 40, don't list it for 40. You always
take a risk of getting less than you want doing so.

Anywho, most (if not all) ebay buyers these days snipe, so you are highly
unlikely to see any action until you get to the last few seconds before they
end.
And us poster collecting vultures even wait until after the auction ends to
say, "see it didn't sell...why not sell to me for 30."

So, it's a catch 22...if you end them early, you miss out the bids most likely
to come right at the end of the auction.
If you don't end them early, you risk em selling for below what you are willing
to let them go for :(

Why not list them at a fixed price, and provide the best offer option?
Post links to your auctions on the various movie poster forums...

Re: [MOPO] eBay worries..

2011-10-05 Thread phil
Everything Ves said.
Whatever you list as a starting price is what you have to be willing to accept.
It really is as simple as that.

Re: [MOPO] 4 extra folds? 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 extra undisclosed folds

2011-10-05 Thread Richard Halegua Posters + Comic Art

the only thing I have to ask is this:

is someone allowed to make a mistake once in a while - and apologize
for it + offer refund - without being excoriated by a buyer &
publicly lambasted?

I don't know who the seller is, but his response seemed to be very
fair. Myself, I might have asked if the seller was going to be paying
return postage for a mis-described item and I'm certain, with as
reasonable as his email response was, that he would have agreed (or she).

as to the comment Michael made:
the fact that you said one hand doesn't know what the other hand is
doing, and there is no one overseeing the process, doesn't exude
confidence to buy expensive items from you. accurate descriptions is
so very important.

I think that's hitting someone below the belt Michael. In the case of
myself and Anna, my secretary Anna comes in on her own time. She
has a key and my alarm codes to go to the office when she wants to to
do her work. Currently, because she lives on the far west side of
town, and her son goes to a school at the far East side of town (by
her choice) she comes to the office after she drops him off and works
from morning until she needs to leave at about 2:30 to pick him up from school.

I on the other hand am a vampire. I get in between 1 and 2pm. So our
cross-over time is a very small window, and only 4 days a week, so it
is very easy for me to not know what she is doing. Fortunately she
does a great job, I trust her and I don't need to know what she's
doing 99.9% of the time

People are not perfect Michael, including yourself and as long as a
dealer is acting in a reasonable and fair manner, I don't think they
need to be derided by customers having fits over what is a minor
issue if it doesn't entail any serious complications and what the
dealer said to you is nothing like the horse's ass I'm dealing with right now

I bought a Monroe color photo from someone .. and again, the item
only sold for $1, probably because his shipping is $10.95 (I don't
know why, 99.9% of all my problems with sellers on fleaBay are for
inexpensive items). well for the $10.95 in shipping this horse's ass
got, he put the photo in a padded envelope with no freakin cardboard
expecting his "do not bend" means something, plus of course it only
cost $4.95 to send so he's treating shipping as a revenue stream.
anyway, the photo is useless now. I messaged him.. no response, so I
filed a complaint with PP and he says he'll give a refund ONLY IF I
PAY TO RETURN THE PHOTO

these two situations are 1000% different

naturally I messaged this fool what is about to happen (that I will
leave feedback appropriate for this transaction)

no bigger.. just another fleaBay schmuck willing to sacrifice his rep
for a few dollars. it's called "a lack of moral character"

i am waiting for the seller to confirm this.

i was happy to see that the seller read my posting on MOPO, and
responded, but he needs to confirm that he will pay the return postage.
