[MOPO] WTB: Le Grand Restaurant/Man Who Fell To Earth

2012-10-19 Thread Info Movie Poster Art Gallery
Dear MoPo,

Two slightly unusual wants:

1: The original small French poster for the Luis Funes comedy LE GRAND
RESTAURANT.

And

2: The daybill for THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH.

PS Still interested if anyone has the 1960 ROMAN HOLIDAY 1sheet (or insert,
perhaps, if one was done)

Many thanks,

Tim Maddison

I predicted the loss of paper publications in 1995 when I started a business
to distribute golden age comic books and pulps on CDRom
I had a great business in it and sold thousands of dollars of discs when I
was still exhibiting at SDCC until 2003 as well as through my websites
the business was ended by Piracy

talk about the cutbacks in newsroom staff (reporters, cartoonists,

Jay, you're right about the disappearance of print editions having a greater
impact outside the newsroom. That said, I'm not so sure the writers WILL
find work, at least work that involves writing.

The trend now, at least with online outlets (eg, the Huffington Post, the
most notorious example), is to pay writers NOTHING. That's right, you're
expected to work solely for the exposure, even if you're in your 50s and
have decades of experience and accomplishments behind you.

Newsroom or not, the people in the business who will get hurt the most are
those who do not have enough years in to qualify for buyouts and pensions.
The market is already flooded with qualified but unemployed journalists (not
just from print but from broadcasting, too). Meanwhile j-schools are still
turning out a fresh crop of journalists every year! Where will THEY work?

I disagree with live auctions being 18th century technologyso are you going
to be shipping complete dinning room sets and combine harvesters? This is
nothing like going to a live auction bidding against other bidders and hauling
off your prey right after you snatched it. Sure it makes sense to place
specialized auctions on line i.e. coins and movie posters but there are tons of
auctions everyday that people travel to in order to stock up on their antiques
for their stores and suchthey are not going to be paying shipping on the
chest of drawers that's for sure

letters-to-the-editor sections, (which I tend to skip) - and not in places like
Arts and Leisure in competing national papers. I think the only other daily
national newspaper that may survive five years from now - will be USA Today,
which strikes me as a headline service (sort of like TV) - for travelers and
people on the go. -d.

So much of my own collection are items I bought from dealers I met
through MCW. I was there at the beginning and for many years, as a
collector, couldn't wait for the latest copy to get to me. It was a
genuine thrill to open it up and see all the fun stuff for sale.
Brian and family are great people and, later as a advertiser, they
helped me immensely making sure every detail was covered. I wish them
all the best of luck and extend enormous thanks for their
contribution to our hobby. MCW was way more than a newspaper, it was
a part of our history..

The trend now, at least with online outlets (eg, the Huffington Post, the

Newsroom or not, the people in the business who will get hurt the most are

The market is already flooded with qualified but unemployed journalists (not

OK, one of the things I have noticed in this duscussion is that people talk
about the cutbacks in newsroom staff (reporters, cartoonists, proofreaders).
While this is true, the impact is much larger (100%) on the production and
distribution staff. I feel for the typesetters, printers, circulation,
truck drivers and even the lowly kid who proudly delivers the paper to your
 hedge or roof.

The writers will find work. Not so sure about the blue collar folks.

True, much of the today's news can now be had from trending twitter
hashtags, but you all are ignoring the fact that the convenience of
instant access sacrifices quality and considerably so. You cannot
find better reporting than that of the NY Times period; you may of
course argue that the internet can make up for this loss, but such
wouldn't change the fact that it is the newsprints that are the most

? Misstated the number of presidents with 6 letters in their first names.

? Unfairly accused the Canadian Pacific Railroad of planning to start a
thermonuclear war.

? Admitted a Page 1 article was based on a substantial error in the use of
statistics. Topic of the article? Educational standards.

? Incorrectly declared that passengers departing a plane from San Juan to New
York City must go through Customs because they might bring items to the
United States from Puerto Rico.

? Incorrectly declared that a bachelor party had been held at Legoland.

True, much of the today's news can now be had from trending twitter hashtags,
but you all are ignoring the fact that the convenience of instant access
sacrifices quality and considerably so. You cannot find better reporting than
that of the NY Times period; you may of course argue that the internet can
make
up for this loss, but such wouldn't change the fact that it is the newsprints
that are the most informative and do a better job than any website (or string
of
websites for that matter) possibly can.

And I'm probably younger than most of you (still in college), so shame shame
shame, pick up a paper.

Each time I politely decline telling her that there isn't a scrap of news in
the
paper that I probably didn't know about yesterday while reading it online.

I'm surprised most print media is still alive today, much less a few years
from
now.
the only time I get a newspaper is when I'm at an airport going somewhere.
Other
than that I get my written news online where I can choose a variety of sources
every day.

as the Baby Boomers die off, print will be gone

Yup, sadly, the end of print media is happening somewhat sooner, though only

the Internet and the 24-hour news cycle?)

Hey everybody. I have some pretty nifty lobby cards and a herald up on Ebay
right now

THE RAVEN
LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT
THE WIZARD
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Chaney)
DRACULA'S DAUGHTER
THE MAGICIAN
BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (herald)
CURSE OF THE DEMON TC
ALICE IN WONDERLAND

and some scarce serial lobby cards
THE PHANTOM
CAPTAIN AMERICA
FLYING DISC MAN FROM MARS

Below is a foot long link to THE RAVEN then click other items under seller
to see them all.

These cards are all unbacked and almost all without restoration. I guess what
I am saying is Kerry Haggard has not had his %%##%#*^$^% hands anywhere
near them.
Not that he didn't try...
Also if there is anyone interested in a multiple buy, don't hesitate to contact
me. It is possible I could work a little discount. I've been known in the past
to be really swell
in that department. At the very least do give them a look. They are all kind
of rare.

Thanks Freeman
