Wim,

Based on the image in the pressbook, it certainly looks like the top half of a
'38 window card. The type doesn't differ from the one sheet all that much other
than the G's being shortened a little and the outline changed to white.

2014-01-05 Thread Posteropolis
Hi, MoPoers:

I just wanted to let you know about the latest Posteropolis website update.

This month I'm giving a special nod to legendary director ROGER CORMAN, who
is represented by posters for The Masque of the Red Death, Teenage Doll and
Viking Women and the Sea Serpent.

Other outstanding pieces include one-sheets for film classics The Exorcist,
Taxi Driver and The Third Man, as well as for cult favorites like They Call
Her One Eye and Vanishing Point.

And don't miss exciting over-sized posters for The War of the Worlds, Bride
of the Gorilla and Under The Red Sea.

And I haven't even mentioned the stunning insert for Dragstrip Girl or the
cool lobby card for the 1944 Universal BASIL RATHBONE SHERLOCK HOLMES movie
The Pearl of Death!

Here's a list of all titles included in this month's update:

* ADVISE & CONSENT (Saul Bass)
*   AND THE WINNER IS.
* THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
*   DRAGSTRIP GIRL
*   DROP-OUT WIFE
*   THE ELECTRONIC MONSTER

Just around an hour to go until these start to close, and if a slew of last
minute bidders don't show up, then there are going to be a LOT of seriously
great buys made, even on many of the best items. If these items are of any
interest to you at all, then you really want to look them over one more
time before they start closing, by going to

I don't think so, but it triggers my own question. I have this piece of
something. I think it's the top of a '38 window card looking at the art and
letter type, but I'm not sure as the lettering is designed differently from the
onesheet art.

[MOPO] 999 Australian, German posters & more close in hours; many rare & wonderful ones; 60% still just $5 or under!

2014-01-05 Thread Bruce Hershenson
We have a very nice selection of *999 mostly Australian & German posters +
other non-U.S. posters & lobby cards* ending this afternoon beginning at 3
PM CST at
*http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html*(*NOT
*at 7 PM, like our Tuesday and Thursday auctions).

*Note that while this set of auctions has folded posters and non-U.S. lobby
cards from a total of 16 different countries; a large number of the items
are specifically from Australia, Russia, and Germany. If you like posters
from any of these three countries you will be amazed at the great selection
we have from each, and just how affordable the vast majority of them are!*

Note that we are auctioning another part of a * WONDERFUL* collection
of *Russian
posters* we have been consigned, and you can see just those 105 items by
going to items 5a164-5a268! Because many of the movies these posters are
from are unknown to Western audiences, some of these posters sell for
really low amounts of money, even some with wonderful graphics, and they
are well worth looking over!

And we also have a very large group of *Australian one-sheets and
daybills*and you can see just those 538 items by going to items
5a462-5a999! There are some really wonderful daybills included, plus 92
Australian one-sheets, which includes a lot of super rare ones from the
1940s and 1950s!

And we also have an *EXCELLENT* group of *German posters* and you can see
just those 193 items by going to items 5a269-5a461!

And we also have a collection of rare *Turkish sexploitation posters* and
you can see just those 56 items by going to items 5a108-5a163! We have
never seen many of these posters before, and may well never see them again!

But please also note that there are 107 other non-U.S. posters and lobby
cards from *12 other countries* at the very start of the auction (items
5a001--5a107)! These include some really great Mexican posters with Cabral
art!

I just looked over the *999 mostly Australian & German posters + other
non-U.S. posters & lobby cards*, and many of the prices on these are really
hard to believe! With just under a day to go, the items include 43 items
with no bids (4%), 191 items at $1 or with no bids (19%), 276 items at $2
or less (28%), 415 items at $3 or less (42%), 523 items at $4 or less
(52%), and 586 items at $5 or less (59%)!

*Note that these items end on Sunday afternoon, instead of our usual
Thursday night for these sizes, and it is quite likely that some bidders
will be confused by this, which means there is great potential for real
bargains in this set of auctions (to demonstrate, as of right now, 20% of
these items are still at $1 or have no bid, and a whopping 60% are at $5 or
under with just a few hours to go). Now more than ever, doesn't it make
sense for YOU to take advantage of this opportunity to bid on these items
and get many great deals or "steals"?*

Of course, once you get *OVER* just $5, you start hitting lots and lots of
"better" titles, but an awful lot of those are currently at
*VERY*reasonable prices, far under what some of them have sold for in
the past
(the ones we can find any record of selling in the past!). Here are the
current top forty items:

*5a663 GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES Aust daybill '53 artwork of Marilyn Monroe
& Jane Russell!

5a904 STAR WARS Aust daybill '77 George Lucas classic sci-fi epic, art by
Tom William Chantrell!

5a105 TAL PARA CUAL Mexican poster '53 Jorge Negrete, cool art of men in
sombreros drinking!

5a097 MIS 3 VIUDAS ALEGRES Mexican poster '53 Fernando Resortes directed,
Cabral art of showgirls!

5a627 CHINA SEAS Aust daybill R40s Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Wallace Beery!

5a676 HARVEY Aust daybill '50 great artwork of James Stewart sitting with 6
foot imaginary rabbit!

5a380 LE MANS German '71 intense close up of race car driver Steve McQueen
in uniform!

5a643 DOWN TO EARTH Aust daybill '46 wonderful full-length artwork of Rita
Hayworth!

5a727 LAWRENCE OF ARABIA Aust daybill '63 David Lean classic, artwork of
Peter O'Toole!

5a668 GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS Aust daybill '56 Gojira, cool different
artwork, it's alive!

If it is a horizontal image, it could be a U.S. subway poster, because they
measure very close to that.
