Re: [MOPO] Bob May - Lost in Space Robot - 1939-2009

2009-01-19 Thread Chris Cloutier
Title: Bob May - Lost in Space Robot - 1939-2009

Thanks for the news. I was a fan of his- and a big fan of Lost In Space. I have a giant 50 x 70 inch poster of the robot doing the Altoids promotion from 1997.
Bob May developed a great body language for the robot -- it was great to see him do that stint of promotions in the late 90s in lieu of the new LIS movie of 1998.
I wished they had done it with the original cats- but alas I am a sentimentalist.

Bob May who actually wore the Lost in Space robot suit has died of congestive heart failure at age 69. (Dick Tufeld provided the voice, as any LIS fans already know). Here's a link to the news story:

[MOPO] Fw: [MOPO] poster fading

2009-01-08 Thread Chris Cloutier

As someone who worked for 5 years in commercial printing before going into art restoration (then posters later),
I can say- yes--
The posters at the start of a print run may be richer in color than at the end--when the plates have been depleted- ink running out, etc.
I see it all the time. and some posters are printed in different areas of the country depending on where they are being distributed which can account for other variables--not so much in movie posters though.
I often am asked to enhance the color in posters which are printed in the1890s--- as those by Mucha and Toulous-lautrec.

Americans. See this

[MOPO] Fw: [MOPO] what do YOU think is the reason there are far more men than women in this hobby?

2008-12-20 Thread Chris Cloutier

I Restore vintage posters of all types, not only movie posters. Offhand about 50% of my customers are females. They tend to collect more decorative posters, such as those by Cappiello, Cheret and artists like that. The art work on movie posters goes from sublime to so soto simply bad- and the adoration of American Heros, who are usually men in old movies, is appealing to men. The strong female roles ( Joan Crawford) dont even seem to have long lasting poster appeal--at leaste to women --that John Wayne posters have for men. I know of almost no female movie poster dealers.
Some top females in the poster world:
The Barber Shop posters I had from the 1890s were all collected by a female. I will not mention her name.
The biggest and best dealer of Military Posters is Mel Mehan, a female in New York
Thebest dealer of American/European Vintage posters is Nancy Steinbock, many if not all of her customers are female. The prices these dealers get can be quite high- upwards of $30,000 poer poster. And I am proud to have them as customers. There are many more. Laura Gold, Peggy Bronstein, etc. They wouldn't be caught dead with a movie poster.

I know that movie poster collecting is mostly a male hobby, but I would estimate I have between 5% and 10% females among my 30,000 customers, and I wonder how many female collectorspost here on MoPo.I also wonder if any of the females here have an opinion as toWHY there are so many more male collectors than female. After all, I see nothing at all gender based in this hobby, unlike say baseball cards, where all the players are men. There are certainly a lot of movies that appeal more to women than men, and I would think a high percentage of movies are completely "gender neutral" (appeal equally to men and women).

So what do YOU think is the reason there are far more men than women in this hobby? Thanks!Bruce

Male vs female collectors.
Black vs. white
gay vs straight

these are categories that have evident validity in collectors tastes. I have
seen it from all, and its all great. It's what makes life interesting.

2008-11-05 Thread Chris Cloutier
Hi Chris,
You told me you read your emails every day. It's been 5 days since I
wrote and nothing. You also told me turnaround time was 3-5 wks.
You've had it since Sept. 5 and today is Oct 23. Then you told me you
were backed up without your wife. So why say 3-5 weeks if you know
you can't pull it off?

You say you're backed up, yet you want my husband to send you more
posters. How does that make sense for us? However, I see you had
time to get my check cashed, but not ship the poster which you said
was done and has been paid for. So far, Chris, we are not impressed.
I hope your work is worth the unprofessionalism.

Andrea Kanter

Hi Andrea,
No I didnt say I wanted more posters from you or your husband, i need just your
payment. because i dont know you... I always ask
for payment up front from unknown people. BTW I will be at the Poster Fair this
weekend working for a major dealer
as her main sales prson. I usually sell 10 posters in a day witrh her am,ounting
to $20,00 in sales. So they really want me.
Hope we can touch base before I ship the poster.

[MOPO] regarding posterfix

2008-10-29 Thread Chris Cloutier
To all of you...My deepest apology - poster collectors and lovers everwhere on
MoPo. and To Andrea for letting this get out of hand. I have joined this forum
simply to defend myself onece. Unfortunately I believe this whole thing started
because Posterfix was two weeks late in returning her poster from what I had
promised. Frankly I have gotten way behind schedule because
i have a growing backlog of heavy restoration projects and a good team member
accepted a teaching job and left the team, my best linen backer Jaewon Chang.
Andrea frequently contacted me for updates which I gave her, with apologees for
being behind. I explained about my back problems and the challenge of having an
8 month old baby boy at home. She was sympathetic. . Then on Friday 10/26 I was
doing a poster show..and put my email on “auto-response” --
when i didnt respond to her email personally-- because i wasnt in the shop she
flew off the handle and admitted that she was “menopausal” and therefore
venting on me. I can show you her email. But I want this to end. .
She then threatened to post negative stuff about me all over the internet for
not responding. she said i was a lair. So thats when i lost my cool. I never
lied, and didnt deserve what my lawyer sees as harassment.
I lost my temper in the emails when she refused to speak to me upon myreturn
from the shop.. I have all her emails too and the evidence will bear out that
she was wrong.
I joined MoPo on Kirby's suggestion to defend myself but your system took a
long time to figure out and get confirmation. I do not wish to
get on MoPo. But I would appreciate it if you deleted all matter concerning my
name and business from the site. Then return her poster happily with apologees.

Chris Cloutier

By the way, I suspect that she hates Catholic Liberals.
Thanks for your time.
