[MOPO] Ebay reset my password - help
I received an E-mail from Ebay, with my name included, and in my message list on Ebay as an alert, saying they reset my password because it may have been compromised. I seldom use Ebay anymore, and am wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I had to change my Ebay password, my regular E-mail password and my Paypal password. I forwarded the original E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED],com, got the canned response they are checking into it, and never heard from them. (I changed my password through the Ebay site, not the E-mail). Has this happened to anyone else? And any guesses about what went on, as I never use the respond button to Ebay messages and am very careful never to give personal info out. It's just outrageous that you would make such a statement. In fact, one of my auctions reached the reserve 2 days ago, and the balance of the reserves are quite low. If you expect me to give things away, for your dining pleasure, you can forget that. Don't bid, it's fine with me. But there are some damn good bargains in the material I am offering. Rick posted a statement here, a blunder, which he apologized in a private email, which I think started all this (I had a typo in the All Through the Night inset, which Marty Davis pointed out to Me) I fixed it. The poster is NOT trimmed; it is 14 x 36 and is a damn good deal, as is the other posters I'm offering We've always had cordial relations so I don't understand the attack. Re: [MOPO] MORE Re: [MOPO] Mel Gibson - huh?
And now that you've used the MOPO public forum to discuss what up until now has been a private exchange between us, you might want to rethink your diatribe. I have no idea what set you off, but you've obviously and totally misconstrued my original post. Foggy Bottom is one of Washington's oldest neighborhoods, thought to have been named because, as a low-lying area, fog tended to concentrate there. "Foggy Bottom" is often used as a description for the State Department, headquartered in the neighborhood. I try not to get involved in internecine MOPO back and forth, and maintain good relations with MOPOers everywhere, except, of course, for those usual scalawags Freeman, Kirby, Rich, Todd etc. - and in case you misconstrue that, it's tongue-in-cheek. Re: [MOPO] Obituary: Director Val Guest Dies At Age 94
Guest was a brilliant director and I was sorry to hear of his death. In 'The Day the Earth Caught Fire,' he used the actual Daily Express offices in some of the newsroom sequences, and its famous, recently retired editor, Arthur Christiansen, in the role of its editor. Christiansen was one of the great editors in the history of London's Fleet Street. Sort of like using William Shawn, late of the New Yorker, in one of your films. Guest's much underrated film, 'Contest Girl' was right on the mark for its time and place. I've admired him as a director and a writer, have many of his film posters in my collection, and hope he will now get some of the acknowledgment his deserves. Henry The Poster Mint Director Val Guest Dies at Age 94 May 22, 5:51 AM (ET) PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) - Val Guest, the versatile British director and screenwriter best known for directing science-fiction classics "The Quatermass Xperiment" and "The Day the Earth Caught Fire," has died. He was 94. Guest died of prostate cancer on May 10 in a Palm Desert hospice, said his wife, actress Yolande Donlan. He "brought a lot of intelligence to a genre that is often sorely in need of it," said director Joe Dante, a longtime fan of his films. "Every single one of his pictures is thoughtful and well-done." After becoming a director in the 1940s, Guest made comedies, thrillers and musicals, but he was best known for his science-fiction works. "The Quatermass Xperiment" was a 1955 science-fiction horror thriller with a semi-documentary feel about an experimental rocket ship that crashes in rural England with only one surviving crew member. An invisible force gradually transforms him into a monstrous creature as he consumes plants, animals and humans. In the 1961 film "The Day the Earth Caught Fire," simultaneous nuclear explosions by the United States and the Soviet Union knock Earth off its axis and send it hurtling toward the sun. The picture earned Guest and co-writer Wolf Mankowitz best British screenplay awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Guest also was one of the five credited directors on the 1967 James Bond spoof "Casino Royale." "He was a jack-of-all-trades," Dante said. "But there are a lot of little gems in his output that, hopefully, will come to light now." Re: [MOPO] DEAR OLD OLD OLD OLD FREINDS and all the Ships at Sea!!!
Winchell was more a columnist than a journalist. Today, he would have been on Fox. Ultra conservative, extremely powerful and influential in his heyday, he was also a friend of Damon Runyon. Re: [MOPO] Heritage tutorial for Auction
Agreed that Heritage shipping charges are pretty much in line with shipping costs in general, and Grey does a pretty fair job of 'making good' if the auctioneer doesn't 'see' the Internet bid and a floor bid of equal value trumps it -- that's happened to me. But following and bidding live on Ebay will cost you another 5%, so the premium is 20%, not 15% -- this is Ebay's cut, and has nothing to do with Heritage. Tom - I'm conflicted here. I'm not sure you should 'donate' it the Academy, particularly under pressure. Next, the studios will want collectors to 'donate' their posters back to the studios. Agreeing with Kirby, here. Don't despair quite yet. Actually I think it's a contraindicator when many people start to go the sky is falling root. Someone mentioned 99% of the population doesn't care -- well, that still leaves about 60 million by my count, or about 3 million in the US, alone - sounds good to me. This also goes to my earlier non-erudite attempt to say this collecting business is also very much about art. Beautiful artwork, it seems to me, will more than likely remain popular. Look at the rediscovery of Polish posters and their artwork. I think Charlie Evans, the younger, recently had a very successful show of his Polish collection in LA. Scott, If it ain't broke The MOPO style is flexible, and you hit the right tone by your hands off style. Frankly, I'm not all that enthusiastic about those 'other boards,' and I like MOPO just fine. We veer off occasionally and that's fine. I just wouldn't want MOPO to be one large poll after another -- eventually, you get those polls about the world cup and sorghum futures. Re: [MOPO] Best Movie Poster in your collection
I'm a big Eddie Constantine fan, I suppose because when I was a kid I watched a Lemmy Caution film (not Alphaville) on those late night movies on WOR in New York. So one of the first posters I bought, probably twenty years ago, was an Italian 2 foglio of 'Lasciate sparare... chi ci sa fare.' Eddie dominates the poster with gun drawn, ready to fire. Lasciate sparare... chi ci sa fare was a French/Italian co-production, and to this day, I cant get the exact title in English. Very loosely translated it's something like He's Good with a Gun. That's my favorite poster, and more times than not, I still smile as I walk past it. [MOPO] Ebay Fee Changes
A Message from Bill Cobb Hi...For a little over a year now, I've had the pleasure of being President of eBay North America. Through Town Hall events, eBay Live!, email, and countless board discussions, you've told me and my team what's important to you. Listening to our Community - and making sure eBay delivers maximum value to you - is my job. And I want you to know how much we appreciate your business. I'd like to start the year by making some announcements and filling you in on exciting new developments at eBay. Thanks to the continuing input and innovations of our Community, the eBay marketplace keeps evolving -- creating new opportunities for buyers and sellers alike. 2006 Fee Adjustments As you probably know, we periodically make changes to our fee structure. We'll be making some adjustments to our fees, and I want to highlight the most important ones. The following changes will go into effect on February 22, 2006: • For core insertion fees for auction-style and Fixed Price listings on eBay.com, we're again lowering the lowest tranche fee (i.e. for items with a starting price of $0.01 to $0.99) - from a quarter to twenty cents. • For feature fees -- • We're making Picture Show and Sales Reports Plus free for everyone. • We're reducing the fees for the second and third tiers of Picture Manager and increasing the storage you get at these higher levels. • And we're trying something that has worked well for us on eBay Motors. For the first time, we're offering two new Feature Packs of optional listing features that can save you up to 39% per listing. (Read here for details.) • For final value fees for auction-style and Fixed Price listings on eBay.com, we are increasing one fee this year - the final value fee for the middle tranche, which will increase from 2.75 to 3%. • There are no changes for eBay Stores fees. I encourage you to take a moment to learn more about the upcoming fee adjustments here. Investments in Advertising We know that bringing high-quality buyers to your listings is a critical part of the value eBay provides. To make sure we keep delivering this traffic, we made significant investments in advertising in 2005 which will continue throughout this year. This past holiday season we debuted the "it" campaign, eBay's largest advertising investment to date. Through a fully integrated marketing campaign including television, print ads, internet marketing, catalogs, onsite merchandising, publicity and more, "it" spotlights the depth and breadth of products available on eBay. And the campaign is working. "It" was one of the most-recalled ad campaigns of the holiday season, according to Advertising Age magazine. Also in 2005, with internet advertising costs spiraling, we put considerable effort behind developing new ways to bring more buyers to your listings who use search engines like Google and Yahoo. Behind the scenes, we've been optimizing our site content for this unpaid or "natural" search. We've encouraged the Community to use About Me pages and a few months ago, we launched Reviews & Guides. The content members create through these features not only makes the site a richer experience -- these pages get picked up by search engines. This means buyers searching the internet for product information or other keywords are naturally driven to eBay. Product Innovations Another important part of our job is staying in touch with your changing business needs and developing innovative products that meet them. Last year, we delivered some important improvements like the Best Offer feature, better shipping integration with U.S. Postal Service® and UPS®, cross-promotion enhancements to give sellers more visibility to your listings, and many new features you asked for in Want It Now. This year, we'll continue to stay focused on products and features to help you grow your business and improve your buying experience. For instance, for eBay Stores, you've told us that 19 categories and only one level is not enough. So this spring, we'll be releasing a new structure that allows you to have up to 300 custom categories in three levels of categories and sub-categories. I'm also pleased to tell you that we're soon introducing something many of you have wanted for a long time: At the end of any eBay search, all matching Store inventory listings will be displayed. For sellers, this means much more exposure for your eBay Stores and Store items - for buyers, every search will return many more qualified listings. It's a win/win for everyone. You can read here for more details on the change to add Store Inventory items in Search which will launch in a few weeks. Introducing eBay Express Finally, I want to tell you about a new specialty site called eBay Express that will launch this spring. eBay Express will be an exciting new buying experience, offering items that are available for purchase right away. We think eBay Express will e

[MOPO] Postal rate increase
Just shipped a poster to LA by priority mail, and the cost was $9.00. Same weight prior to today was $7.85. My shipping fee charges to buyers will have to go up. And the free shipping for posters bought directly from ThePosterMint site will end in February. With insurance and delivery confirmation, this particular poster to LA cost ThePosterMint $16.00, a fair sized bite for shipping by the US post office. Re: [MOPO] movie memory test
In the early 60s, unless I'm imagining it, I remember my mother giving me fifty cents for a Saturday matinee on Long Island - 35 cents for the ticket and 15 cents for candy. I once asked the candy counter guy for moth balls instead of malt balls. [MOPO] e-check question - thanks for the info
Thanks MOPOers for the info about e-checks. Very helpful. Best to all, Henry The Poster Mint
[MOPO] Paypal e-check question
For the first time, I've been paid for a poster by Paypal e-check. How does this work, exactly? I see some sellers only accept Paypal attached to credit cards. Paypal indicates the poster should not be shipped until the e-check clears. What are the risks for the seller in accepting these? Can there be the equivalent of a chargeback, even after it clears? Thanks. Re: [MOPO] Brokeback Mountain - Scott
Good Lord, Scott, you wouldn't want us to actually wade through posts discussing movies, would you? :) Henry The Poster Mint In a message dated 1/3/06 12:49:11 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I saw "Brokeback" last night and I don't think I'd classify it as a Western. Yes, it takes place in Wyoming, yes they herd sheep, yes they wear cowboy hats. But I don't think that makes it a Western. You could make the 2 leads pineapple farmers in Hawaii or long-haul truck drivers. It's the *relationship* that's the focus of "Brokeback." It's funny, but I never really looked upon "Hud" with Paul Newman as a "Western." Same thing here. And a note to JR who thinks we're going too far off-topic personally I have no problem with *any* movie-related discussion on MoPo. Our posting guidelines (check out the FAQ) support this. This is something we might want to discuss as we enter a new year. Have we been too restrictive with our "all movie posters all the time" edict? I must say some of the discussions about "King Kong" and "Brokeback Mountain" have actually made me enjoy reading the posts on MoPo. While I don't mind eBay notices, I need more in my movie-centric life. Comments? Happy New Year to all, BTW. Scott MoPo List Owner
Re: [MOPO] MOPO] Ride em' Cowboy! - Goldwyn
