To answer 2): The most notorious example is Warner Bros using the image of
Bogie from High Sierra on the Maltese Falcon paper.

I was browsing on eBay, and found an insert to The Great Gatsby (1949
version with Ladd).

This poster is rare (as you certainly know) -- however, I would be
surprised if it sold for serious cash.

The artwork is different from the 1-sheet (see)

   http://www.moviegoods.com/movie_poster/the_great_gatsby_1949.htm

and more like Two Years Behind the Mast

http://www.moviegoods.com/movie_poster/two_years_before_the_mast_1946.htm

I have 2 questions for you:

1) Is this just a case of Paramount using some leftover artwork from a
previous film, or is there a bathing suit scene in this movie??

2) What other posters have images of the stars taken from other roles on
them?

Thanks,

Evan

2011-01-03 Thread Rixposterz
On every US movie poster issued for The Maltese Falcon, with the exception
of the Window Card (and possibly the 6-Sheet?), Bogart appears as Mad Dog
Roy Earle, the part from High Sierra that put him on the map earlier
that year. That's why for many Bogart collectors, believe it or not, the
Window Card is the most sought after US poster on the film...

2011-01-03 Thread Richard Del Belso

Take a good look at THE MALTESE FALCON. Isn't the portrait of Bogart from HIGH
SIERRA...he sure doesn't seem to be in Philip Marlowe drag.
And some of the material for LAURA , using the portrait of Gene Tierney with
her hand extended, is from RINGS ON HER FINGERS. I think this is on the
half-sheet or the title lobby card for LAURA.
