We use this also. I give grade leveled text for the kids to read and test
on a couple of times each week. I take running records on grade level
passages and take that as grades. I use their home reading logs as one
grade for the nine weeks. I usually have 25 or so grades from doing this.
PS some teachers also take an average of the kids AR grades which I don't
agree with

Please advise. I am working with my teachers at grades K - 6 in adopting
many of the principles of a Balanced Literacy program. We are following a
lot of the work done by Fountas and Pinnell. A question and concern among
many of the teachers is grading. Now that report cards have to be issued
over the next week, teachers are questioning how we grade students in a
B.L.
