[mou-net] Botulism at Wells Lake (Rice Co.)?
Hi All-- John Holden and I canoed by the heron rookery in Wells Lake near Faribault in Rice Co. Details are in my blog: http://dantallmansbirdblog.blogspot.com/ We were disturbed by at least a couple of dozen dying cormorants, apparently suffering from avian botulism. (I am not a vet, but they displayed consistent symptoms.) We reported these birds to the local DNR office. dan -- Dan or Erika Tallman Northfield, Minnesota http://sites.google.com/site/tallmanorum http://dantallmansbirdblog.blogspot.com http://picasaweb.google.com/danerika daner...@gmail.com the best shod travel with wet feet Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes --Thoreau Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html

[mou-net] Shorebird Workshop
Next weekend is the three day shorebird workshop that Bob Janssen and I put on each year. We just had a couple of cancellations so if anyone is interested in attending on this short notice let me know. I have been scouting west central MN for suitable habitat / shorebirds. The locations are very limited but the good ones are REALLY good this year. I am finding the usual shorebirds. Note worthy ones are Buff-breasted and Stilt Sandpipers at Cory Lake (thanks to Curt Vacek for the MOU posting on 7-26) located 7 miles south of Madison. The slough 1 mile southwest of Rosen had a few Short-billed Dowitchers. Salt Lake is brim full of water now so no shorebirds except both Wilson's and a few Red-necked Phalaropes.
