[mou-net] Summer Tanager at CNC
The summer tanager is still at Carpenter Nature Center (Friday 11/18) It was seen near the apple shack about 10:30 and later near the administration bldg. The admin bldg area seems to be a good place to find it when the sun is shining - The bird was seen on the roof and gutters hawking insects when it warmed up today. It has also been seen eating berries from ivy vines on the east side of the center bldg. I'll post another photo on the MOU website. I had better light today so the bird was not in shadow - as was the case earlier in the week. Tom Bell was happy to add a new Washington Co bird to his list today. [mou-net] WW crossbills, detroit lakes, becker county
At approximately 1100 today there was a flock of approximately 40 ww crossbills near the high school in Detroit Lakes. They were on Roosevelt Ave. feeding. They flew east over the school. I tried following them. They were last seen flying north along Corbett Rd. near Granger St. Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] Pine Grosbeak - Washington County
This afternoon I spotted a male Pine Grosbeak feeding in a small crab apple tree along Afton Hills Drive S. near Afton MN. The bird was on private property, but could be viewed from the road. From Stagecoach Trail in Afton (just north of Afton), take a left at Afton Hills Drive South and follow for approx. ¾ mile to where the road Y's. Veer to the left and follow Afton Hills Drive S. for about 0.4 miles. The grosbeak was seen in one of two small crab apple trees located just northwest of Afton Hills Drive S. When I left the area around 4:00 p.m., the grosbeak was no longer in the crab apples. I did manage to take a very poor, zoomed in cell phone image, so if anyone wants to see the pic, drop me an e-mail.
