[mou-net] Long Tailed Duck - Scott County, Wilkie unit

2015-11-14 Thread Justin Watts
A long tailed duck is present in Fisher lake right now, along with
hundreds of ring necked ducks and smaller numbers of most
expected species. This is in the MN Valley Refuge, Wilkie unit,
Scott County. Scope needed, I viewed the duck right from the
parking lot at hwy 101 x crest ave.

[mou-net] Plegadis Ibis- Stearns

2015-11-14 Thread Milton Blomberg
This afternoon Dedrick Benz sighted a Plegadis Ibis on Getchell Lake. It was
feeding contentedly on the mudflat shore in the NW corner of the lake. (This is
the same location as the Black-Necked Stilt sightings earlier this spring).
South of Freeport, CR 30 to 327th Street--go west to dead end and a turkey
farm...continue straight ~2-300 yards down a two track trail (grooved, but
driveable), to the grass-marshy public access on the east side of the lake. We
suspect it is a juvenile, most of the plumage an oily brown-green, long
decurved bill. Scope needed. Ron Erpelding arrived to view it as well, but it
disappeared at dark. Hope it will still be feeding here tomorrow. Present
also ~125 Bonaparte Gulls and assorted ducks. Some Cackling Geese and WF
Geese flew in while Ron was present. Some waterfowl hunting shots were also
heard at twilight. (Dedrick Benz, John Hockema, Frank Gosiak, Milt Blomberg).

[mou-net] MBW update

2015-11-14 Thread Kim R Eckert
The MBWbirds website (http://mbwbirds.com ) was just
updated this evening, and it includes the complete descriptions of all the
Minnesota Birding Weekends and Weeks of the 2016-17 season. The opening day of
registrations is on Monday, November 16, on a first-come-first-served basis
based on U.S. mail postmarks. (The confirmations of any registrations submitted
before before the 16th will be delayed.)

The basic MBW schedule was already included in the recent November-December
issue of the MOU newsletter, which was published on the MOU website
(http://moumn.org - see MOU Publications / MN BIrding
Newsletter). However, most MOU members were probably unaware of this unless
they subscribe to the mou-net listservice, where an announcement of this was
posted. If you know some MOU members who don’t subscribe to mou-net, you might
want to let them know that the newsletter (and the MBW schedule) is now
available.

As always, please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

(Please note: MBWs are offered in association with the MOU; we were originally
known as MOU Birding Weekends. MBW participants are still expected to be
members of MOU, which receives a portion of MBW receipts in return for these
updates on mou-net and in the newsletter.)
