[mou-net] Three Snowy Owls: Dodge Co.
I found three snowy owls in their western Dodge Co. wintering grounds around sunset yesterday. One east of 150th Ave. north of 700th St. The second south of 690th and east of 120th. The third on a utility pole on 685th St. All these owls were females. The two nearly pure white males seen in early December have not been seen recently. [mou-net] Last duck as city lakes freeze
(Posted by Chet A. Meyersvia moumn.org) No really big news. There were only a couple of small leads in the ice, and the few gulls present on Calhoun left about 4:10 p.m. A few common mergansers remained on Calhoun and the last duck on Lake Harriet before it froze, was a lesser scaup female, surrounded by a bunch of coots. Also one very patient, and lonely, bald eagle. Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] IVORY GULL PHOTOS DULUTH
Hi all, I really hope everyone gets to see this amazing visitor from the High Arctic... Gorgeous and tame little white gull. It was eating salmon filet (thanks Pedar!) only 12 feet from us (behind the green locked gate at the north pier in Duluth's Canal Park. [mou-net] bird ID help
Anyone have any idea what this bird might be: Today driving the back roads from Little Falls to Brainerd, central Minnesota, I saw a bird about the size of a crow but look a little more like a hawk. It was very dark, either black or very brown, when it flew there was a distinct band of white under the wings along the primaries, otherwise everything was dark. Also at it flew it flew steady for awhile and then rocked a little like it wasn't quite sure of itself. It would perched in the top of the tree. Don't know if this is enough info, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Perhaps it is a dark morph of something?
