[mou-net] Long-Eared Owl - Mound Spring SNA - Yellow Med
(Posted by Jason Frank via moumn.org) This afternoon around 3:45 PM, there was a Long-Eared Owl in a woody copse on the edge of Mound Spring Prairie SNA in western Yellow Medicine County. Needless to say, a pleasant surprise in this neck of the "woods!" The area is a hilly prairie environment, but there are some thick groves, river bottoms, and a couple of rodent-infested farmsteads just a stone's throw (or, maybe, a pellet's heave) away. [mou-net] Fwd: Goodhue Cnty Townsend's Solitaire
Whoops - those "spruce" trees are more likely junipers. Still so much to learn... -rick -- Forwarded message -- From: "Rick Gibson" Date: Dec 10, 2017 3:44 PM Subject: Goodhue Cnty Townsend's Solitaire To: "MOU" Cc: While strolling through Lake Byllesby Park in Goodhue County this > afternoon, I ran across a Townsend's Solitaire in the cedars and spruce > trees to the north of the entrance road. > > -rick gibson, mpls > Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html

[mou-net] Possible 1st yr juvenile goshawk Edina
I was putting lights on my deck a block from Bredesen Park in Edina when a hawk landed in nearby tall trees. I had time to get my binoculars and identified the brownish speckled back and white supercilium. I couldn’t see the belly or banding on the tail. It flew off while I was getting my telephoto. Definitely bigger than a Cooper’s or Broad winged and no shoulder markings. [mou-net] Black-backed woodpecker
I observed a black-backed woodpecker working on a tree adjacent to the Clearwater Road in Cook County. The light was dim and I was not carrying bins so I don't know if it had the yellow forehead patch. First black-backed I have seen in about 4 years. I will email again if I re-locate it. [mou-net] Pectoral Sandpiper Still Present
The Pectoral Sandpiper found by Liz and Alex yesterday is still present today at the Grey Cloud Island Gravel Pit in Washington County. Appears to be in fine health in terms of mobility, but I'm no expert.
