Re: [mou-net] Yellow-throated warbler at Whitewater Winona Cty
That’s kind of funny because several years ago my brother Bill George and I “chased” it at Whitewater. We hung out at the place you described. I was doubting Thomas because I had never chased a bird. We waited and waited and then I thought I heard its call. We played it’s song and shortly thereafter it appeared. I was in awe. We then had a picnic lunch by the river and the bird followed us there and sang and sang and never left us alone. Afterward I swore that this male confused us for female Yellow Throated warblers. My friend Bill Stjern said that sometimes males will go out of their range and spend the entire summer looking for a mate in vain. [mou-net] Pine Warblers & Other FOYs at Wm O'Brien SP
This morning Maureen & I covered 7+ miles of Wm O'Brien's trails on the west side of Hwy. 95. For the most part there weren't a lot of birds, but we had some interesting finds. Just the best: Am. Bittern - FOY Sora - 2, heard only Horned Grebe - 1 on the pond inside the Prairie Overlook Trail loop, still showing some winter plumage Hooded Merganser - 1 male on same pond Wood Thrush - heard 2-3, visual confirmation on 1 of them; FOY Ovenbird - 2 heard only; FOY Black-throated Green Warbler - 1 heard; FOY Palm Warbler - ~6 Yellow-rumped Warbler - surprisingly few Pine Warbler - a pair foraging very close together on ground just S of Visitor Center; male was the extreme yellow, female the extreme dull plumage shown in "The Warbler Guide"; both landed ~10' away & were examined with 10x binoculars; FOY Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet - numerous (we couldn't confirm any GCKI, though) Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 1 heard only; FOY House Wren - 1 heard only; would be FOY except we heard 1 at home earlier today Sedge Wren - heard 2-3; FOY Eastern Towhee - they seemed to be singing from everywhere Brown Thrasher - heard a few Swamp Sparrow - not that special, except we estimate that we SAW well over 75 of them, including a flock of 30+, and a flock of 20+. White-throated Sparrow - just a few seen & heard Ron Refsnider Coon Rapids, MN Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html

[mou-net] Comcast email address issues.
Comcast email addresses are having issues with sending and receiving to MOU-NET. Some sent message make it through, and some don't. The reason there was not a response from the admins when sending to owner-mou-...@lists.umn.edu was due to comcast not the list itself. Anything sent from a comcast email address was not delivered to us. We had similar issues with yahoo email addresses in the past. I had to switch my email address to a gmail account because yahoo could not resolve the issue. I did just recently receive email sent to me personally from comcast email addresses which is why I am now aware of the issue. If you have a comcast email account you are going to need to contact them to get this resolved or you will need to switch email providers. I apologize for any frustration this may have caused but the list admins can't fix the issue. Only Comcast can. [mou-net] Kandiyohi County Common Tern
The Common Tern I found on May 1 is still present today at the marsh on the north side of Co. Rd. 27 a mile east of Co. Rd. 1. This is north of Pennock a few miles. The Terns are on the center island with 17 Forster's Terns. [mou-net] Rose-breasted Grosbeak - Ramsey County
I woke up to a welcome sight in my bird feeder this morning: a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak. After tromping all over yesterday for such a sight, all I had to do today was look out my window for a first of the year for me.
