[mou-net] Buff-breasted Sandpipers, Jirik Sod Farms (8/26)
Apolpgies for the delayed post: Yesterday at @400PM, I saw five Buff-breasted Sandpipers at Jirik Sod Farms (Dakota Co.). They were at the location described in the previous post, on the southernmost green field on the west side of the road (Blaine Ave.) across from the farm office building. The birds were quite far from the road but visible using a scope. Not much else going on out there, except a lone Killdeer and a few Rock Pigeons. Good birding, Andy Forbes, Dakota Co. [mou-net] Bell's Vireo, Rose Park, Burnsville, Dakota Co. (6/9)
Apologies for the late posting. Yesterday evening (June 9th). I heard a Bell's Vireo singing pretty consistently between 600PM-700PM next to the soccer fields at Rose Park in Burnsville. Rose Park is located off of County Hwy. 42 on the south side of the road, just west of the Burnsville Mall. The bird was singing from a small patch of shrubs and small trees, north and east of the easternmost soccer field. [mou-net] Imm. Great Black-backed Gull AND Long-tailed Duck, Thief River Falls Sewage Lagoons (5/19)
Yesterday Caleb Ashling and I found an immature Great Black-backed Gull and a Long-tailed Duck at the Thief River Falls Sewage Lagoons in Pennington County. Both birds were seen @400PM. Sorry for the delayed post (got home at 430AM) and lack of photos (no camera). You'll need to get permission to access the lagoons beyond the fence from the city of Thief River Falls plant superintendent. I can't find the phone number at the moment but I do remember finding it on the city website www.citytrf.net. [mou-net] Shorebirds, etc. -180th st. marsh, etc.
Caleb Ashling and I did a brief run through the 180th st. marsh area in Dakota Co. after work today, hoping for some shorebirds before the rain. We saw some, but overall it was pretty slow. Highlights follow: Flooded field on 210th st., (S of Vermillion, near it's intersection w/Northfield Parkway): 4 American Golden-Plovers (one in fresh breeding plumage) 3 Solitary Sandpipers 10-15 Pectoral Sandpipers 1 Spotted Sandpiper 1 Palm Warbler, flitting around along a power line and looking out of place 180th St. Marsh Many American Coots 1 nice looking adult Horned Grebe, full breeding plumage 2 Pied-billed Grebes 15-20 Yellow-headed Blackbirds 1 Eastern Kingbird The farmers adjacent to the 180th st. marsh area were busy spraying and working in the fields, lots of traffic near and along the road, might be good to be cautious about your parking, etc. over the next few days.
