[mou-net] Are the cardinals redder?
Good evening, Maybe it's my eyesight or memory, but it seems to me that this year the males are redder. Has anyone else seen the same? Could it be a seasonal difference? Re: [mou-net] more Franklin's Gulls in Duluth.
Thank you Chris Mansfield for the photographs of the Gulls! I observed a flock of appx. 15 at 1:30 Saturday, but was unable to identify them. They were above Upper and Crosby Lakes in St. Paul. I observed them from the bluff, about 300' above the lake. They were flying about 100 to 500 feet above the bluff line, feeding on insects. My point of observation was near the intersection of Shepard Road and Madison Ave. I've looked, but not seen them since, nor recall seeing them before. Thank you for the photographs: the gulls are not in my guide books and I would never have identified them. [mou-net] Eagle in St. Paul.
Good afternoon, Yesterday at about 11:15 I first watched a lone eagle in combat with another bird which I presume was a hawk. They were above the Van Paper Company - Pearson Candy Company complex between West 7th Street and Shepard Road, [Rankin is the cross street,] between 300 and 500 feet. About 20 minutes later I again saw a sole eagle, in the same area but closer to Shepard Road and at lower altitude. Today another bird watcher said that yesterday he'd seen an eagle as well, at about 9:15, near the intersection of Alton and Shepard Road. [mou-net] Hooded Warbler?
Good afternoon, again, I saw what I think is a hooded warbler on Stuart Ave. in St. Paul, between Lincoln and Homer at about 10:30a. Peterson does not have it in Minnesota, but my edition is 30 years old and the map states that it comes casually in April after storms. Similar species have even less likely. [mou-net] Bald Eagle in St. Paul.
Good afternoon, A bald eagle was at about 100' above Shepard Road at about 10a. Flying ESE between Alton and Homer s/he was joined by another bird over the bluffs above Crosby Park. I'm not sure of the other bird, but it had a similar size and shape. I'm not an expert in identification, however, all the characteristics in Peterson's were there: white hood, white tipped wings, yellow beak, wings extended, not bent. Right size too.
