[mou-net] American Black Duck Pair in Aitkin County

2022-04-30 Thread Lon Baumgardt
For anyone interested, there are currently two American Black Ducks in a
flooded field approximately two miles west of the western edge of the city
of Aitkin on county road 15 in the Cedarbrook Area of Aitkin County.
Several people have seen and photographed the birds throughout the day. The
field is on the north side of the road.

[mou-net] American Black Duck - New London, Kandiyohi County

2015-02-23 Thread Josh Wallestad
The Black Duck found by Coralie Jacobson in late November and later recorded on
the
Willmar CBC was present this morning on the Crow River in downtown New London.
This
section of river can be viewed from the dam right by the Mill Pond as well as
along Central
Avenue where the river runs right by the road, and also from a small parking
lot
immediately behind the west-side downtown businesses. The Black Duck was with
34
Mallards. Another interesting bird there is an over-wintering Belted
Kingfisher.

[mou-net] American black duck

2015-01-11 Thread Henry, Michael R., M.D.
While getting ready for the golden eagle count next weekend I traveled up MN 74
north from Whitewater. No GOEA but there were 4 rough-legged Hawks both dark
and light morphs, 2 kingfishers and some wintering bluebirds by the open water.
Also mixed with a group of mallards across from the area Park headquarters
there was a black duck. I got some poor long distance photos to confirm.

[mou-net] American Black Duck, 9-Mile Creek area, Hennepin County

2014-10-11 Thread linda whyte
A male American Black Duck was present in the wetlands between the MN River
and the lower reaches of 9-Mile Creek this afternoon. It was easily
distinguished from the numerous mallards by its dark body plumage, lightly
streaked tan neck and head, and yellow-olive beak. Perched on a mudflat and
small log half-way out from the gravel causeway, it spent some minutes
preening, before swimming off toward the flock of mallards on the far
shore. After a brief foray up the creek, we returned and looked for it
again, but could not relocate it in the short time we had.

Also present in the area were some of the expected migrants, like
Yellow-rumped and Palm Warblers, and Golden-crowned Kinglets. The most
numerous were the White-throated Sparrows; a large flock of them were
feeding in the grassy compost area on the river bank, west of the Lyndale
parking lot. They indulged in a communal "hot-tub" party in a huge puddle
on the road, retreating into the weedy grasses, young saplings, and large
brush piles nearby.

[mou-net] American Black Duck/Rice County

2014-02-04 Thread
Hi All--

Most of the winter, various eBirders have reported an American Black Duck
in and around Northfield, Rice Co. Having errands in Northfield, I finally
got around the checking yesterday (3 February 2014). Among 350 Mallards in
the small (75 yard) patch of open water in the Cannon River along downtown
Northfield, I had no problem finding the Black Duck.

I have photos on my blog:
