[mou-net] Brewer's Blackbird a mistake

2012-01-03 Thread john c. nelson
A pair of Rusty Blackbirds in bright sun under my feeders this morning
lead me to believe I was mistaken in my idenification yesterday of a
Brewer's Blackbird.
It's ironic that while we require a photograph to confirm rare bird
sightings, had I submitted the best of yesterday's photos a lively
debate may have ensued.
I believe the conclusion would have been "possible- not confirmed".
Fortunately the presence of the Rustys today in much better light
leaves me certain that

the blackbird yesterday was most likely a Rusty as well.

2012-01-02 Thread john c. nelson
This morning on the ground beneath our feeders among the HSP, Am
Goldfinches, and Dark-eyed Juncos a female Brewer's Blackbird.

First in January in Blue Earth County?

[mou-net] Brewer's Blackbird, Burnsville, Dakota County

2009-06-05 Thread Byron and Ginny Blood
This morning at approximately 9:30 - 9:45 am I found what I believe to be a
female Brewer's Blackbird foraging in the short grass beside a trail at the
Rudy Kraemer Nature Preserve in northwest Burnsville. I found the bird on
the south side of the pond that is south of the ball field at the Sue
Fischer memorial park. I don't know how rare it would be to see a Brewer's
Blackbird at this time of year in Dakota County. I know I have never seen
one at this time of year. Could it be nesting nearby?

If you are inclined to go looking for it and are not familiar with the
location, here is a link to a Google map of approximately where I found the
bird.

You could park at either the nature preserve parking lot at the end of
Chowen Avenue or at the ball field parking lot at the end of Vincent Avenue.
